Funeral service for Elsie Louise Currie, 82, of Canora and formerly of
Preeceville, who died November 26 at Canora Gateway Lodge, was held November
29 at Trinity United Church in Preeceville with Rev. Miles Russell
officiating. Burial was in Preeceville Cemetery with Preeceville Funeral Home
in care of arrangements. Born
October 5, 1919, in Canora, she attended Beaver Falls and North Prairie
schools and worked at housekeeping and babysitting jobs in Melfort and
Preeceville. She worked for Dr. Richard Krauss, veterinarian, in Preeceville
from 1970 to 1984. Predeceased by her parents, Carl and Eleanor Sundberg, three brothers, Glen, Randolph and Leonard, a daughter, Kathy Dale, and two grandsons, she is survived by three sons, Robert and Glenn, both of Prince George, B.C., and John of Westbank, B.C.; six daughters, Eileen Piwish of Swan River, Donna Berg of Weekes, Marian Kulyk of Hudson Bay, Lois Renny of Abbotsford, B.C., Edith Mitchell of Swan River and Lynn Larsen of Preeceville; 23 grandchildren, and 34 great-grandchildren. Funeral service for Xenia Dusyk, 84, of Yorkton, and formerly of the
Invermay-Rama area, who died November
25 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre, was held November 30 at St. Mary's
Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton with Rev. Dmytro Dnistrian officiating.
Burial was in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Bailey's Funeral Home in care of
arrangements. Born
on December 9, 1916, at Mitchelview (near Buchanan) to Andrew and Barbara (Prokop)
Hadubiak, she attended Olesha School. She helped her widowed mother on the
farm until September 26, 1938, when she married Stefan Dusyk at Sacred Heart
of Jesus Church in Olesha. They farmed near Olesha for nine years and then
moved to Rama in 1947 where they operated a business for five years, as well
as operating the farm. She was a member of UCWLC and served as first
vice-president and secretary for many years. In 1953, they sold the Rama
property and Olesha farm and moved to a farm west of Invermay. In 1957, a
UCWLC branch was organized in Invermay and she field various positions on the
executive until 1972. She was also involved in the home and school association
and was a director and exhibitor for the Invermay Agricultural society. She
was a correspondent for the Wadena News and for the Ukrainian section
of Our Pathway in Yorkton. Beginning in 1973, she worked for 10 year with the Anderson
Lodge in Yorkton. Starting in 1975, she held various positions with the
Yorkton UCWLC, including president. In 1990, she was installed as a member at
large of the Eparachial
executive of St. Athanasius Church in Regina. In the same year she was
installed as first vice-president and liaison to the Eparchial executive of St
Mary's Church in Yorkton. In 1991, she received a certificate of merit for
long outstanding dedication to the UCWLC. She also served on various
committees such as the Millennium, Regional Centennial, York-ton
Centennial, the UCC and was a member of the Golden Agers since it was
organized in 1977. In
1993, she visited Ukraine with humanitarian aid's "Gift of Hope". Predeceased by her parents, Andrew in 1923 and Barbara in 1938, her husband, Stephen in 1987, an infant brother Nickolas in 1902, an infant sister Ann in 1910, three brothers, Peter in 1974, Steve in 1980 and John in 1993, a sister Katherine Kozak in 2001 and a granddaughter, Julie Isaac in 1998, she is survived by five sons, Leslie (Vivian) of Calgary, Marvin of Hinton, Alta., Basil (Shirley) of Kamloops, B.C, Markian (Debbie) of Kamloops and Methodius (Christine) of Ft. McMurray, Alta.; three sisters, Orlene (Giovanni) Eremondi of Saskatoon, Marianne (Edwin) Skene of Sudbury, and Zoria Flynn of Hinton, Alta.; a brother, Joseph Hadubiak of Region; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral service for Donna Byblow, 76, of Yorkton and formerly of the
Whitesand district, who died November 19, was held November 23 from St. Mary's
Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton with Rev. Bryan Bayda officiating. Burial
was in Yorkton City Cemetery with Bailey's Funeral Home in care of
arrangements. Born
December 19, 1924 in the Whitesand district to Wasyl and Anna (nee Spelay)
Byblow, she moved with her family in 1925 to the Sheho district where they
farmed. She attended Deer Creek elementary school and Sacred Heart Academy
before attending Teacher's College in Regina and Saskatoon. She taught at
various points in Manitoba before returning to Yorkton where she taught at
various schools in the district until her retirement in 1994. She was a member
of St. Mary's Church, the superannuated teachers' association and the
Yorkton Gun Club. Predeceased by her father in 1945, mother in 1983, four brothers, Metro, Nicholas and Michael in infancy and John in 1995, she is survived by three brothers, Peter (Mary) of Saskatoon, Metro of Penticton, B.C. and Morris of Wynyard, and six sisters, Katie Haas of Ituna, Mary Fransishyn of Canora, Pauline (Harry) Corroll of North Bay, Ont., Pear Baronsky of Yorkton, Bella (Max) Bilan of North Bay and Adella Byblow of Yorkton. Boychuk, 94, of the Gateway Lodge, who died November 29 at the Lodge, was held
December 4 at Leson's Funeral Home with Rev. Peter Wasylenko officiating.
Burial was in St. Mary’s Ukrainian
Orthodox Cemetery with Leson's Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born
on September 13, 1907, on a farm near Tiny to Mike and Frances (Sleeva)
Matsalla, she attended Badgerdale School. On August 13, 1927, she married
Metro Boychuk and they farmed in the Amsterdam district. In 1965, they retired
to Canora. In 1991, she became a resident of the Gateway Lodge. Predeceased by her parents, Mike and Frances, her husband Metro, three daughters, Mary Stefanowich, Victoria Antoniuk and Emily Danyluk, three sons, Nick, John and Anton, six sisters, Nellie Bugera, Mary Obodiak, Annie Belitski, Stella Wolkowski, Emily Miko and Jean Yaworski, three brothers, Ludwig, Anton and Joe, and a granddaughter Beverly Jensen, she is survived by a son, Lawrence of Canora; three daughters, Eleanor Wolos of Canora, Antonia (Nick) Hladun of Canora and Delores (Earl) Brown of Lloydminster; a sister, Victoria Parnetta of Canora; 30 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren. |
