Canora Courier, November 14, 2001 ALEXSON:
Funeral service for Thomas "Tom" Alexson, 106, of Saskatoon,
and formerly of Quill Lake and Invermay, who died Oct. 31 at the Lutheran
Sunset Home, Saskatoon, was held November 6 at Acadia Drive Funeral Chapel.
Burial was in Quill Lake Cemetery with Acadia Drive Funeral Chapel in care of
arrangements. Born
in September, 1895, in Podol, near the Ukrainian city of Kamienets-Podilsky,
Tom immigrated to Canada in 1913, homesteading north of Invermay. He married
Helen Puritch in 1934, settling on a farmstead near Quill Lake, where they
raised a family and tended the land until retiring to town in the early 1970s.
They moved to Saskatoon in the early 1980s. Predeceased by his wife, Helen, his parents, brothers, Alex, Fred, and Timothy, and sister, Olga, he is survived by his son, William of Saskatoon; daughter, Alexa of Vancouver; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral service for Dennis Vincent Clancy, 73, of British Columbia and
formerly of Margo and Canora, who died October 10, was held October 16 from
the Evangel Pentecostal Church with Pastor John Morris officiating. Born
on March 13, 1928, in Hanley to Ed and Helen Clancy, he was raised in Margo
and then bought grain for the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool in Naicam, McKague,
Hendon and Canora He moved to Powell River in 1963. Predeceased by his parents and a sister, Margaret Shaw, he is survived by his wife, Emelie; four daughters, Debbie (Wally) Greene, Patricia (Ken) Newbury, Denise (Norm) Heatley and Cindy (Doug) Wilich; a son, Roger (Sherry) Clancy; three brothers, Ray (Irene), Vic and Sandy (Joan); a sister, Jeanette (Al) Knight; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral service for Roberta Gail Mauthe, 59, of Churchill, and formerly
of the Invermay area, who died November 6 at Canora Hospital, was held
November 12 at Tuba's Funeral Chapel with Rev. Frances Patterson officiating.
Burial was on November 13 at the Birchwood Cemetery in Swan River with Tuba's
Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements. She
began school in Glenavon and completed her education in Invermay. In 1961, she
moved to Churchill. She worked for the Northwest company (formerly the Hudson
Bay Company) for 40 years. She was a member of the Churchill baseball team. She is survived by her mother, Reta Paulson and her stepfather, Mike Trach. Canora Courier, November 14, 2001 OUCHAREK:
Funeral service for Mike Oucharek, 86, of Yorkton and formerly of the
Rhein district, who died October 30 in the Yorkton Regional Health Centre, was
held November 2 from St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church with Rev. Dmytro
Dnistrian officiating. Burial was in Yorkton City Cemetery with Bailey's
Funeral Home in care of arrangements. He
was born on March 15, 1915, in the Rhein district to Maxim and Magdeline (nee
Chesnek) Oucharek. Predeceased by his parents, he is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary (nee Shekula); three children, Emil (Jeanette) of Langley, B.C., Delores Uhryn of Yorkton and Wally (Joan) of Melville; two sisters, Mary (George) Oystrek of Winnipeg and Lillian Kobrynsky of Canora; 10 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Funeral service for Gladys Mary Stupak, 69, of Durban, Man., and
formerly of Hyas, who died October 24, was held October 29 from the Chapel of
Swan Valley Funeral Services with Rev. Murray Wenstob officiating. Burial was
in the Durban Cemetery in Durban with Swan Valley Funeral Services in care of
arrangements. Born
December 1, 1931, in The Pas, Man., to Nick and Annie Sholudko, she was raised
on the farm near Hyas. In 1942, the family moved to Victoria, B.C., then
returned to Durban after the Second World War. In 1953, she married John
Stupak of Swan River and the couple farmed in the Durban area. Predeceased by her parents in 1997, she is survived by her husband; daughter, Joyce (Tony) Suchoplas of Creighton; one sister, Alice Pacamaniuk of Swan River; one brother, Alex (Anne) Sholudko of Winnipeg, and five grandchildren. Funeral service for Anne Wasylyshyn, 83, of Saskatoon and formerly of
Gorlitz, who died October 31, was held November 5 from Yorkton Memorial
Gardens Family Centre with Rev. Rod Luciuk of St. Mark's Orthodox Church
officiating. Burial was in Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Bailey's Funeral Home
in care of arrangements. Born April 11, 1918 to Mary and Nickoly Dymianiw near Horse Shoe Lake, she moved with her family to a farm three miles west of Gorlitz where she attended Ukraina School. On November 27, 1934, she married Nick Wasylyshyn in Canora and the couple farmed until 1957 when they moved to Saskatoon where she worked for the YWCA. For 25 years, she kept a boarding room for university students. Predeceased by her parents, her husband in 1992 and two brothers, Sam and Paul Dymianiw, she is survived by three sons, Fred (Ruth) of Langley, B.C., Peter (Jan) of Innisfail, Alta. and Dan (Rosemary) of Saskatoon; a brother, William (Mary) Dymianiw of Edmonton; a sister, Nellie Duckett of Sudbury, Ont.; seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. |
