Canora Courier, November 21, 2001 KEHL:
A memorial service for John Kehl, 90, of Invermay, who died in the
Wadena Hospital on October 25, was held October 29 from the Kingdom Hall of
Jehovah's Witnesses in Wadena with Alvin Troop officiating. Burial was in the
Hewson Family Cemetery in Invermay with Narfason's Funeral Chapel and
Crematorium in care of arrangements. Born
in Morris, Man., on June 6, 1911 to John and Marie Kehl, he received his
education in Val Jean. On March 29, 1937, he married Kathleen Hewson in
Invermay and the couple farmed in the district until his work with the
Canadian Pacific Railway required the couple to move. They returned to the
Invermay area in 1996. Predeceased by his parents, his wife and three brothers, Fredrick, Melford and Ronald, he is survived by two brothers, Stanley of Whitewood and Vernon of Portage In Prairie, Man., and four sisters, Verona Kehl of Whitewood, Beatrice (George) Paice of Regina, Marie Kindlin of Osoyoos, B.C. and Norma (Vernon) Lindahl of Saskatoon. Funeral service for Steve
Melnychuk, 66, of Edmonton, and formerly of Buchanan, who died October 30 at
his home, was held November 5 at Glenwood Funeral Home with Rev. Carolyn
Nicholson officiating. Burial was in Glenwood Memorial Gardens with Glenwood
Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born
March 20, 1935, in Buchanan, he married Ollie Mylymok in 1967. Predeceased by his parents, Klym and Katherine Melnychuk, he is survived by his wife, Ollie; a son, Shawn; a daughter, Kerrie; three brothers, Mike (Mary), Peter (Gladys) and Bill, and nine sisters, Mary Gulka, Stephanie (Stan) Gerber, Betty (John) Hrynkiw, Helen (Walter) Findlay, Pauline (Paul) Chopty, Joyce (Ted) Walsh, Livia (Edwin) Witzko, Sonia and Jean. Funeral service for Robert James Colville, 85, of Regina and formerly
of Invermay, who died October 19, was held in the chapel of Riverside memorial
Park with Rev. Barry Bruce officiating. Arrangements were by Helmsing Funeral
Chapel and Crematorium. Born
April 30, 1916, in Invermay, to Robert and Nellie Colville, he served in the
Canadian Armed Forces in Europe during the Second World War, then worked for
Canada Post for 25 years, retiring in 1979. Predeceased by his parents and two sisters, Mildred and Olive, he is survived by his wife, Barbara; two sons, Stuart and Ralph (Heidi); three brothers, Jack (Effie), Charlie (Ann) and William (Jean), and two granddaughters. Funeral service for Rita Marie Fisher (nee Matsalla), 31, of
Preeceville, who died November 11 at Saskatoon's Royal University Hospital,
was held November 17 at St. Anne's Roman Catholic Church in Buchanan with Rev.
Andrew Sowa officiating. Burial was in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Cemetery near
Tiny. Born
on October 9, 1970 in Canora Union Hospital to Edward and Mary (nee Matsalla)
Matsalla, she attended school in Canora and went on to take a photography
course and an early childhood development course. She babysat and housecleaned
for many people over the years. She was involved with the snowmobile club and
was a volunteer at Canora Hospital. She married Jim Fisher on July 6, 1991,
and they resided in Preeceville. She was an active parishioner in St. Anne's
parish. She taught catechism, served Mass and sang in the church choir. Predeceased
by her grandparents, John and Josephine Matsalla and Ludwick and Stefie
Matsalla, she is survived by her husband, James; her parents, Mary and Edward
Matsalla of Canora; a sister, Monica (Marc) Kovac of Preeceville; and two
brothers, Greg Matsalla of Preeceville and Leo Matsalla of Canora. Canora Courier, November 21, 2001 OYSTRECK:
Funeral service for Annie Oystreck,
95, of Yorkton and formerly of Rhein, who died November 7 in the Yorkton
Regional Health Centre, was held November 12 from Holy Transfiguration
Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Yorkton with Rev. Richard Ehrmantraut
officiating. Burial was in Yorkton City Cemetery with Bailey's Funeral Home in
care of arrangements. Born
May 29, 1906 in the Mennofeldt district to George and Yustina (nee Kryshkowski)
Wowk, she married William K. Oystreck in 1924 and the couple farmed in the
Rhein district. In 1964, they retired to Yorkton. She was a member of St.
Mary's, All Saint's and the Holy Transfiguration churches. Predeceased
by her husband in 1976; a daughter, Marie in 1962, a son, Bobby in 1993; three
sisters, Molly Fedoruk, Nellie Boychuk and Alice Gawryluk, and a brother, Mike
Wowk, she is survived by three sons, John (Emily) of Kamsack, George (Dolaine)
of Winnipeg and Steve (Kay) of Winnipeg a daughter, Jane Chypyha of Kamsack;
five sisters, Lena Mandzuik of Polly, Eva Zaharia, Katie Zaharia and Mary
(Frank) Malinsky, all of Yorkton, and Patty Stefuik of Kamsack; 19
grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Canora

Funeral service for Lena (nee Ochitwa)
Prosko, 91 of Quill Plains Centennial Lodge, Watson, and formerly of Mikado,
who died at her residence Nov. 10, was held Nov. 14 at the Watson Civic Centre
with Rev. Michael Kopchuk officiating. Burial was in St. Michael's Ukrainian
Orthodox Cemetery, Watson, with Schuler-Lefebvre Funeral Chapel in care of
arrangements. Born Nov. 17, 1909, to Jacob and Katherine (nee Sopkow) Ochitwa at home on their farm in Mikado district, where she spent the years of her childhood and early youth, she moved to Regina at age 15 and began working as a domestic aid. On July 21, 1931, Lena married John Prosko in Regina They began their life together on the Prosko farm in the Wimmer district. In 1946, John and Lena moved to Watson and farmed from town until 1967. That same year, John died. Lena continued to live in their home until 1996 when she moved to the Lodge. She was a member of the Watson Community Club, the Watson Hospital Helpers, and the St. Michael's Ukrainian Orthodox Women's Auxiliary. Predeceased by her husband, John, one son, John William, one granddaughter, Melanie Mae Prosko, parents, Jacob and Katherine Ochitwa, three brothers, Mike, Tony, and Alex Ochitwa, and two sisters, Nellie Rollack and Ann Rollack, she is survived by two sons, Melvin (Eileen) of Sherwood Park, Alta., and Dennis (Mickey) of Yorkton; four daughters, Jean (Syd) Anderson of Calgary, Paulette (Ed) Parenteau of Lethbridge, Alta., Evelyn (Lorne) Johnson of Devon, Alta, and Sharon (Roger) Regie of Watson; 18 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren. |
