Friends of John Pinkerton gather in B.C. to celebrate his life

On July 14, a celebration of life (wake) was held in Langley, B.C. for the late John Albert Pinkerton, who passed away May 24, at the age of 60.

Organizer Al Dutchak of Langley (son of Fred Dutchak in Canora) said the event was very well attended with many of John's classmates, who graduated from the Canora Composite High School in 1959, in attendance.

Those attending were: (in alphabetical order) Al and Sonia Adlem (nee Hanewich) of Delta, B.C., Burt and Elaine Bonin (nee Kalmakoff) of Richmond, B.C., Lorraine Buckley (nee Kopelchuk) of Canora, Sydney Burtnick of Clearwater, Fla., and friend Barbara Raeder of Corning, N.Y., David and Diane Davies (nee Potter) of Surrey, B.C., Al Dutchak of Langley, Herman Dutchak of 100 Mile House, B.C., Brian and Bev Friesen (nee Dutchak) of Richmond, B.C., Doug and Janet Gardner of High River, Alta., Peter (Swetleshnoff) and Lorraine Kent of Burnaby, B.C., Ed and Bev Ludba of Vancouver, Eleanor Mills (nee Belitski) of Surrey, B.C., Faye Perham (nee Barschel) from Prince George, B.C., Elaine Pinkerton, wife of deceased of Red Deer, Alta, and Darwin Samuels of Coquitlam, B.C.

This event took place at the Lampliter Restaurant, in Fort Langley, which is owned and operated by Paul Buckley, son of Lorraine Buckley of Canora. After diner, and treats of Larraine’s homemade pies, the scene shifted to the West Country Hotel Lounge where numerous photographs were taken and stories of John’s life were exchanged.

Those unable to attend due to previous commitments were: Orville Drobot, Austin Pakosh, Ed Wasyliw, Faye Samuels, and Roman Remenda.  Remenda, however did send a very inspirational message to all attending.

EDITOR’s NOTE:  A testimonial to the caring nature of John Pinkerton was revealed over the weekend when the keys to a brand new vehicle were turned over to his mother, Lillian, and his sister, Debra, both of Canora.  The 2001 Honda Civic Sedan was purchased by John to replace a well-used 1989 model car. Debra moved to Canora about three years ago to provide care for her mother.
