Lily Boen (nee Mikkonen) of Regina and formerly Kelvington died Oct. 10 at the age of 69. Lily had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1979 and in 1988 she moved to the William Booth Care Home in Regina, where she lived until her death. She was predeceased by her husband Elmer, her parents and a sister Betty Scramstad. She is survived by six children, their spouses and grandchildren; sisters, Lila (Bud) Landstad of Rama, Ellen (Lorne) Hanson of Foam Lake, Mabel (Melvin) Mennie of Kelvington, Julie (John) MacArthur of Australia; brothers Fred (Gladys) Mikkonen of Invermay, Dave (Myrna) Mikkonen of Regina and Ted Mikkonen; and many nieces and nephews.

BROUGHTON:  Funeral service for Linda Broughton, 77, of the Gateway Lodge, who died October 7 at the Lodge, was held October 11 at Faith Lutheran Church in Buchanan with Pastor Kim Sherwin officiating. Burial was in the Canora Cemetery with Tompkins Funeral Home in care of arrangements. She was born on February 27, 1924, in the Bellenden district, south of Rama, to Mike and Maggie (Petryshen) Yakimyshen. She received most of her high school education and university classes by correspondence. She married Vincent Broughton on January 16, 1945. She was employed as a teacher at Stony View, Wergeland, Dernic, Woodhurst and Buchanan schools. In 1948, they moved to Buchanan. After a 35­year teaching career, she super­annuated in 1979. Among her many volunteer community involvements, she was the secretary-treasurer and elder of the Buchanan United Church for more than 20 years, a member of the Buchanan Library board, on the United Church Women's executive, with the Ukrainian dance and language classes at Buchanan School, with the Buchanan Teachers' local organization, and with the Better Speech programs. She was a canvasser for the Com­munity Charity Chest, and was with the Co-op Women's Guild, Club 50 Plus and the community choir. She was a director of the Buchanan history book committee, a representative for the Saskatchewan Heart and Stroke Foundation and a member of the Buchanan Housing Authority board. She was a reporter for the Seniors' paper and received a life­time membership pin for 35 years service with the Red Cross. Predeceased by her father Mike, her husband Vincent, four brothers, James, Jake, Bill and Victor and a step-sister Olive, she is survived by a son, Malcolm; her mother, Maggie of Canora; six sisters, Alice (Russell) Michelczuk, Gladys Grodzinski, Sylvia Hequibran, Vicky (Douglas) Armstead, Phyllis Schatz and Marianne (Frank) Sobit; three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

GRIFFITH:  Funeral service for Rosalie Griffith, 69, of Bowsman, Man., and formerly of Stenen, who died October 4, was held October 9 from the Royal Canadian Legion hall in Bowsman with Rev. Rainario Sarce officiating. Burial was in the Bowsman Cemetery with Paull Funeral Home and Crematorium of Swan River in care of arrangements.

Born October 13, 1931, to Anna and John Gogal in Stenen, she received her education in Stenen then pursued a teaching career. She taught at Pine River in 1950 and was a substitute teacher at Wild Rose School for a few moths. On March 16, 1952, she married Hugh Griffith and she worked at Ruddock's Drug Store in Bowsman. She spent a number of years on road construction with her husband then settled on a farm near Bowsman where she worked at Sutherland's Grocery Store.

Predeceased by her father, she is survived by her husband; her mother; a son, Terry (Debbie); a daughter, Noreen (Danny) Zacharias; a brother, Jake Gogal, and two sisters, Barb (Dennis) Freeman and Josie (Gerald) Behrman.

GULKA:  Funeral service for Mike M. Gulka, 82, of Preeceville, and formerly of the Hryhoriw district, who died October 14 at Preeceville Hospital, was held October 17 at the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Preeceville with Rev. Joakim Rac officiating. Burial was in Hryhoriw Cemetery with Preeceville Funeral Home in care of arrangements.

Born December 3, 1918, in the Hryhoriw district, he at­tended Hlycry School and worked as a farmer and carpenter in the Preeceville district. He married Stella Prestie on October 28, 1945, at Checkow Catholic Church and they purchased the family farm from his parents in 1947. They moved to Preeceville in 1965. He was a member of the Hryhoriw Catholic Church for 56 years and helped build the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Preeceville and the Roman Catholic Church in Sturgis.

Predeceased by his parents, Myketa in 1972 and Mary Gulka (Shpak) in 1968, and a brother, Paul in 1999, he is survived by his wife, Stella; a son, Ernie (Yvonne) of Preeceville; two daughters, Sally (John Elgin) Amy of Sturgis and Joann (Gary) Zdunick of Saskatoon; a brother, Steve of Preeceville; a sister, Stella Gulka of Preeceville, and eight grandchildren.

HOFFMAN:  Funeral service for Oscar Hoffman, 88, of Buchanan, who died October 12 at Canora Hospital, was held October 17 at Leson's Funeral Home with Rev. Marg Janick-Grayston officiating. Burial was in the Canora Cemetery with Leson's Funeral Home in care of arrangements.

Born on December 29, 1912, in the Buchanan district to John and Ingeberg (Raksvaag) Hoffman, he attended the Norway School. He began farming in 1929 with his brother, Carl. On September 9, 1937, he married Connie Brown and they made their home on the farm. In 1963, they retired to Buchanan, but it was not until 1975 that he sold the family farm. He was a trustee of the Norway School for a number of years.

Predeceased by his parents, John and Ingeberg a son Donald, a brother Carl and a sister Lily Hale, he is survived by his wife, Connie; two sons, Earl of Abbotsford, B.C., and Jackie (Violet) of Stoughton; a daughter, Joyce Bialobzyski of Vernon, B.C.; 10 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.

KONESEWICH:  Funeral service for Peter Konesewich, 72, of Canora, who died October 14 at his residence, was held October 20 at Leson's Funeral Home with Marion Naduriak officiating. Burial of the cremains was in the Can­ora Cemetery with Leson's Funeral Home in care of arrangements.

Born on September 30, 1929, hi Canora to Mike and Mary (Ratushniak) Konesewich, he attended school in the Mohyla, district. He went east to find work and spent much of his life in Toronto, upon retiring, he returned to Canora.

Predeceased by his parents, Mike and Mary, he is survived by two sisters, Gladys (William) Mitchell of Winnipeg and Audrey (Alex) Yakichuk of Regina.

LACTIN:  Funeral service for Mabel Lactin, 88, of Canora, who died October 7 at the Gateway Lodge was held October 10 at Tuba's Funeral Chapel with Alex J. Strelioff officiating. Burial was in the Canora Cemetery with Tuba's Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.

Born in Canora on September 6, 1913, to John and Bastia (Baresinkoff) Shishkin northeast of Canora in an area known as New Village, she attended Brena School. She worked on the family farm until she married Nick Lactin at New Village. They lived for a while at Veregin and then moved to Benito when she looked after her aunt. They returned to the Canora area to farm. She was a member of the Doukhobor Prayer Home.

Predeceased by her parents John in 1965 and Nastia in 1968, her husband Nick in 1979 and a brother Fred in 1975, she is survived by a daughter, Paulette Wistoski of Yorkton mid a sister, Pauline Barschel of Region.

LINDENBACH:  Funeral service for Paul Jacob Lindenbach, 92, of the Rhein district, who died at home October 9, was held October 12 from Christ Lutheran Church in Rhein with Rev. Daphne Bender and Rev. Fred Schneider officiating. Burial was the parish cemetery with Bailey's Funeral Home in care of arrangements.

Born April 8, 1909 in Melville to Heinrich and Katherine (nee Ritz) Lindenbach, he was raised in the Landestreu and MacNutt districts. At an early age, he worked at neighbouring farms than then at Bowsman, Man., in lumber camps. He moved to the Rhein area to work on farms and married Amalie Graf in Christ Lutheran Church on December 26, 1949 and the couple farmed north of Rhein. He was a charter member of the Rhein and District Golden Agers.

Predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Andrew, Mary, Jessie Adams, Adam, Otto, Arthur, Millie Stein and Elenore Laird, he is survived by his wife; three children, Margaret Anne (Ray) Yost; Ross (Roberta) and Timothy (Myrna); eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

MATTSON:  Funeral service for Stan Mattson, 80, of Wadena and formerly of Lintlaw, who died October 6, was held October 10 from St. Theresa's parish in Lintlaw with Narfason's Funeral Chapel and Crematorium in care of arrange­ments.

He lived in Saskatoon and was employed by Intercontinental Packers for 22 years. In 1979, he moved to Lintlaw where he worked as a meat cutter until his retirement in 1999. He and his wife moved to Wadena in 2000.

He is survived by his wife, Jean of Wadena; two daughters, Tammey (Darryl Harris) Mattson of Melfort and Donna (Glen) Knudtson of Maple Creek; one son, Wayne of High River, Alta.; three sisters, Toots (Stu) Dafoe of Saskatoon, Rose (Charlie) Graham of Northside and Vivian Spiker of Birch Hills, and three grandchildren.

SHINKEWSKI:  Funeral service for Albin Shinkewski, 83, of Wadena and formerly of Margo, who died October 7 in the Wadena Hospital, was held October 10 from the Wadena Ukrainian Orthodox Church with Rev. M. Kopchuk officiating. Burial was in the Wadena Cemetery with Tompkins Funeral Home in care of arrangements.

Born April 13, 1918 to John and Anna Shinkewski on the family farm near Preeceville, he attended the Preeceville Public School and high school before moving to the RM of Invermay where he purchased a farm In 1942, he joined the Canadian army and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands, Prince Rupert, Victoria, Port Hardy and Terrace, B.C. After the war, he lived in Regina for a while then purchased a farm close to Margo. In August, 1949, he married Anastazia Burmay and the couple lived on the farm near Margo until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of the Rama St. Michael's Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the Royal Canadian Legion.

He is survived by his wife; six children, Patsy (Dan McCargar) Shinkewski of Edmonton; Darlene (Dave) Barnard of Edmonton, Morris (Laurie) of Edmonton, Dianna (Barry) Enge of Invermay, Lydia (Wayne) Peterson of Central Butte and Susie (Carl) Adamyk of St. Catharines, Ont.; two sisters, Katie Kotyk and Stella Terleski; two brothers, Peter (Pauline) and Andrew, and 11 grandchildren.

WASHBURN:  A memorial service for David Floyd Washburn, 65, of St. Albert, Alta., and formerly of the Stenen district, who died September 7, was held September 12 at the Salvation Army Community Church in St. Albert. Cremation followed and his ashes were spread on the family farm during a family memorial service on September 14.

Born on May 4, 1936, on the family farm, 10 miles north of Stenen to Floyd and Hazel Washburn, he attended Ormsby School. He married Bess Kostachuk of Endeavour in 1959 and they farmed in the Stenen area. After the farm home was destroyed, he went to work for the Pool elevator at Armley, near Nipawin, and then on to Kuroki. He moved to St. Albert and started his own business, MD Industrial Overhead Doors. His wife died in 1977 and in 1979, he married Luanna. He retired in October of 2000.

Predeceased by his parents, Floyd (1977) and Hazel (1987), his first wife Bess, a son Ken in 1991, a brother Robert in 1999 and a sister Cora in 1981, he is survived by his second wife, Luanna; five children, Gary, Laureen (Steven), Michelle (Darren) Fincaryk, Keith and Shannon: five sisters, Grace, Isabel (Leonard), Marcia (Lloyd), Ruth (Walter) and Lois (Gordon); seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
