Canora Courier, July 25, 2001 Peter Karl Robert Ferder passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, July 12th, 2001 at the Swan River Valley Hospital, at the age of 58 years. Peter was born on December 23, 1942 in Whitebeech, Sask. to the late Berger and Johanna Ferder. He received his education in the Builth, Whitebeech and later Pelly schools. Upon leaving school, he entered the workforce and worked at various jobs in the logging and construction industries. He had opportunities to work in British Columbia, Alberta and various points in Saskatchewan. He returned to the family farm in the spring of 1967 where he remained enjoying mixed farming until the time of his passing. In the winter of 1966, Peter married Jean Schell in Regina, Sask. He was an active member of the Swan River Seventh Day Adventist Church, having been baptised into the faith wit his wife Jean in 1972. He held several church offices but especially enjoyed his position as Sabbath School superintendent. Peter was a kind-hearted and hard working man. He enjoyed visits with family and friends in person and in the later years over the phone. His pride in his cattle was second only to the pride he felt for his daughters and later his grandchildren. Peter was predeceased by his father Berger in 1980 and his mother Johanna in 1996. He is survived by his loving wife Jean of Whitebeech, his four daughters: Jackee (Perry) Murley of Benito, Beverley (Allan) Hegedus of Regina, Johanne (Brian) Likness of Saskatoon and Phyllis Ferder (Ed Fedorchuk) of Whitebeech. He also leaves to mourn eight young grandchildren; Jared, Jordan and Joel Murley, Ethan, Serenity, Wynn, Keir and Peter Fedorchuk, two sisters Martha Gronsdahl of Norquay, Phyllis Goleski of Melita, and one brother Bernard Ferder of Whitebeech, also twelve nieces and nephews. Evening prayer service was held from the Chapel of Swan Valley Funeral Services on Monday, July 16, 2001 at 7:30 p.m. Funeral service was held on Tuesday, July 17, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. from the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Swan River. Pastors Norman Cote, Roy Jamieson, and Wilf Michaels officiated. The eulogy was delivered by Mary Yakelashek. Interment followed in the Birchwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were Robert Goleski, Danny Goleski, Dave Hanson, Ed Mercier, Morris Witow and Florian Yakelashek. All of his friends were considered as honorary pallbearers. If friends so desire donations in Peter’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. We love you dad and grandpa, and will miss you always. Mineral service for Paid Gulutzan, 75, of Buchanan, who died July 21 at Regina
General Hospital, was hold July 25 at St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church
(Mamornitz) with Rev. Patro Angel officiating. Burial was in St. Maids
Ukrainian Orthodox Church cemetery with Leson's Funeral Home in care of
arrangements. Born
on July 4, 1926, in the Buchanan district to Mandary and Mary (Kushneriuk)
Gulutzan, he spent his entire life farming. He was known for his woodcarving
and whittling. Predeceased by his parents Mandary and Mary, seven brothers, Alex, John, Mike, Ed, Joe, Charlie and Nick, and six sisters, Dora Homeniuk, Ann Protsak, Helen Boychuk, Myrtle Kopan, Kate Kostniuk and Tillie Marchuk, he is survived by two brothers, Steve of Theodore and Walter of Buchanan, and one sister, Sophie Parnetta of Tillsonburg, Ont. Funeral service for Mildred Irene Hanna (nee Galley) Halbach, 82, of Wadena
and formerly of the Invermay district, who died June 5 in the Wadena Hospital,
was held June 8 from Tompkins Funeral Home in Wadena with Pastor Robert Rud
officiating. Burial was in Hazel Dell Cemetery with Tompkins Funeral Home in
care of arrangements. Born
in Kindersley on February 19, 1919, she was raised near Invermay. After
attending Dobrowody School she continued her education in Heatherbank. On
October 27, 1940, she married Robert Halbach and the couple moved to the
Paswegin area in 1978 where they worked for various farmers. She was a member
of the Quill Lake SeventhDay Adventist Church. Predeceased by a sister, Alice, she is survived by her husband; two sons, Gordon and Clifford (Cora); three daughters, Carol (Raymond), Esther (Jim) and Sharon (Tony); one brother, Robert; 13 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral service for Daniel Peter Polyzniuk, 59, of Edmonton, and formerly of
the Hyas district, who died June 27 at Good Samaritan Lodge in Edmonton, was
held July 20 in the chapel of Preeceville Funeral Home with Rev. Rod Luciuk
officiating. Burial was in Canora Cemetery with Preeceville Funeral Home in
care of arrangements. Born
March 10, 1942, in Hyas, he completed high
school and worked for Pete
Semeschuk and Wilfred Bellows. He moved to Edmonton in 1960 and began working
with the Iron Works Union. A diabetic for many years, he had a leg amputated
in 1997. Predeceased by his parents, Peter in 1973 and Annie in 1996, and three brothers, Billy Duncan in 1950, Alfred Duncan in 1953 and Lawrence in infancy, he is survived by two daughters, Jody (James) Strauss and Shannon (Clarke) Stevens, both of Edmonton; a sister Elaine (Pete) Semeschuk of Sturgis, and three grandchildren. Funeral service for Julius Shuya, 92, of Preeceville, and formerly of the
Hryhoriw district, who died July 17 at Preeceville Lions Hostel, was held July
20 at Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Catholic Church with Rev. J. Rac
officiating. Burial was in Preeceville Cemetery with Preeceville Funeral Home
in care of arrangements. Born
May 10, 1909, on the family farm near Preeceville, he attended Hryhoriw School
and farmed until retiring to Preeceville in 1963. He married Stella Boyko on
October 16, 1933, at Checkow Church. He served as secretary for Hryhoriw
School, was active in the Hryhoriw Church and hall and was a member of Club
60. A good carpenter, he played guitar, violin and cymbaly in his youth. Predeceased by his wife Stella in 1995, his parents, Fred in 1957 and Tatantia in 1967, four brothers, Peter, Paul Steve and Dan, a sister, Helen Mydan and a granddaughter. He is survived by three daughters, Victoria of Gerald, Edna of Preeceville and Agues of Barriere, B.C.; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Canora Courier, July 25, 2001 ZEIBEN: Funeral service for Dora Zeiben, 100, of the Canora Gateway Lodge, who died July 17 at the Lodge, was held July 20 at Leson’s Funeral Home with Marion Naduriak officiating. Burial was in the Canora Cemetery with Leson’s Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born on August 25, 1900, in the Village of Slavanka, Russia, to Alexia and Vasunya Belevanoff, her family immigrated to Canada in 1912 and settled in the Kamsack area. She worked as a nanny or babysitter for several families. In 1919, she married John G. Zeiben of the Devil’s Lake district, near Buchanan. They farmed in the Buchanan area and even when she was widowed at a young age, she continued to farm. In the early 1950s, she moved to Buchanan. In September, she became a resident of the Lodge. Predeceased by her parents Alexsai and Vasunya, her husband John, two sisters, Mary Novakshonoff and Nora Dorrofu, a brother, Fred Belevanoff, a granddaughter Jeanette Nieminen and a great-grandson, Sean, she is survived by two sons, Fred (Florence) of The Pas and John of Buchanan; a sister, Anna Guerrero of Mountain View, Calif.; two grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. |
