ROMANOW:  Funeral service for Anna Romanow, 90, of the Canora. Gateway Lodge, who died November 24 at the Lodge, was held November 27 at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity with Rev. Peter Wasylenko officiating. Burial was in the Canora Cemetery with Leson's Funeral Home in care of arrangements.

Born on August 3, 1911, in the Canora district to Mychalo and Dokia. (Aronyc) Hnatyshyn, she attended Dnister School. She worked at the Canora Hospital for four years before moving to Ontario where she worked as a nurses' aid. On November 14, 1934, she married John Romanow and they lived on a farm near Tadmore before moving to Canora in 1949. She was an active member of the Maria Markovych branch of the UWAC in Canora ever since she became a member in 1950. She acted on the following committees: Gateway Lodge membership, SUMK advisory committee, Sunday School, visiting the sick for seven years and the catering group for 10 years. She sang with the Orthodox Church choir for 10 years. Utilizing her artistic ability, she assisted the local drama groups with stage setting and make-up. In 1975, she was honored with a 25-year certificate of membership in the association. In February of 1985, she received a 35-year certificate of membership.

Predeceased by her parents, Mychalo and Dokia, three sisters, Helen Kuruliak, Katie Kurlik and Mary Demchuk, and six brothers, Peter, John, George, Alex, Metro and Thomas in infancy, she is survived by her husband, John; a son, Willis of Toronto; a daughter, Sylvia (George) Leichert of Regina; two brothers, Bill (Doris) of Hamilton, Ont., and Nick of Hamilton; a sister, Polly Malischewski of Saskatoon; two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

ACHTEMICHUK:  Funeral service for John F. Achtemichuk, 89, of Rhein, who died November 9 in the Yorkton Regional Health Centre, was held November 14 from Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Yorkton with Rev. Richard Ehrmantraut officiating. Burial was in Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Bailey's Funeral Home in care of arrangements.

Born June 5, 1912 in the Rhein district to Filip and Zola (nee Gnyp) Achtemichuk, he was raised on the farm and attended New Canadian School east of Rhein. He married Mary Todoschuk on October 19, 1941 in St. Elias Ukrainian Orthodox Church north of Rhein. The couple farmed until his retirement to Rhein in 1978. He was a member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

Predeceased by his father in 1951, his mother in 1963, four brothers, Alex in 1954, Metro in 1964, George in 1987 and Ted in 1997, two sisters, Effie Andrusiak in 1982 and Nettie in infancy, a daughter, Sylvia Bilous in 1994 and a grandson in 1982, he is survived by his wife; a son, Raymond (Janice) of Blackfalds, Alta; two daughters, Evelyn Schnell of Yorkton and Dorothy (Tom) Anaka of Canora; 10 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
