Funeral service for Catherine Mallick, 85, of the Yorkton and District Nursing
Home and formerly of the Hamton district, who died Jan. 19, was held Jan. 24
from Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Rev. Willem van de Wall of Knox
Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial was in Yorkton Memorial Gardens with
Bailey's Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born
July 25, 1916 in Edinburgh, Scotland, to Andrew and Jessie (nee Price) Dow,
she was raised in Scotland and trained as a nurse. While working in London
during the Second World War, she met Peter Mallick and the couple were married
in London. After the war, the couple came to Canada to the Hamton district,
then settled in the Tadmore district. In 1962, she moved to Winnipeg where she
completed her nursing career, then returned to Endeavour and Tadmore in 1977
before moving to Yorkton. Predeceased by her husband in 1996, her parents, two brothers, Andrew and John Dow, and by a granddaughter, she is survived by two daughters, Selina Mori of Maple Ridge, B.C., and Joyce Palagian of Springside; one brother, But (Kathy) of Edinburgh, Scotland; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Funeral service for Grace Ida Dean, 70, of Rama and formerly of Invermay and
Kamsack, who died Jan. 30 in the Canora Health Centre, was held Feb. 3 from
the Invermay Community hall with Terry Tompkins officiating. Burial was in
Evergreen Cemetery in Rama with Tompkins Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born
in Invermay on May 9, 1930, to Ralph and Olive Enright, she attended school in
Invermay until she was 12 year, of age when the family moved to Kamsack in
1942. After school she worked at Canada Packers in Kamsack for a brief time
then in 1948, she returned to Invermay and worked at Pickle's Garage.
In 1949, she married Neil Dean and the couple lived on the farm four miles
south of Rama. She worked for the Invermay Rural Telephone Company as a
switchboard operator and was involved with the Invermay women's baseball
learn, local curling leagues and was active on the Rama Sports Club. Predeceased by her parents and a brother, Dennis, she is survived by her husband; two sisters, Ruth Courchaine and Shirley (Howard) Schooley, and one brother, Allen (Linda) Enright Canora Courier, February 06, 2002 STECIUK:
Funeral service for Mike Steciuk, 98, of Winnipeg and formerly of the
Amsterdam area, who died Jan. 24 at Seven Oaks Hospital in Winnipeg, was held
Jan. 29 at Leson's Funeral Home with Eugene Bobyk of the Jehovah's Witnesses
officiating. Burial was in the Canora Cemetery with Leson's Funeral Home in
care of arrangements. Born
on Oct. 19, 1903, in Galacia, Ukraine, to Peter and Anna (Lutz) Steciuk, he
came to Canada with his parents when he was eight years old and they settled
in the Amsterdam area. He worked on the farm and then bought a blacksmith
shop. In February of 1930, he married Tatianna Chalus. He spent much of his
time working in his shop. Predeceased by his parents, Peter and Anna, and four brothers, John, Bill, Fled and Steve, he is survived by his wife, Teenie; a daughter, Lillian of Winnipeg, a brother, Alex (Doreen) of Roblin; three sisters, Mary, Pauline and Stella; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral service for William Yacyshen, 79, of the Norquay area, who died Feb. 1
at his residence, was held Feb. 4 at Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church in
Norquay with Rev. Ivan Nahachewsky officiating. Burial was in the Holy Trinity
Ukrainian Catholic Church Cemetery in Norquay with Leson's Funeral Home in
care of arrangements. Born
on Mar. 4, 1922, on the family farm in the Norquay area to Serveriko and Maria
(Romashenko) Yacyshen, he attended North Willow Grove School. He worked in a
mine in Flin Flon, at a sawmill in northern Saskatchewan and at a mine in
Sudbury. In the early 1940s, he took part in building the road now known as
Highway No. 49. In later years, he worked with the department of highways. He
married Mildred Holm in 1948 and they farmed in the Norquay area. Predeceased by his parents Serveriko and Maria, a son Edward in infancy, a grandson Travis Protz, two sisters, Ann Quechok and Lena Antoniuk, and three brothers, John, Metro and Peter, he is survived by his wife, Mildred; a son, Gabriel (Barb) of Canora; five daughters, Barbara (Bjarne) Hoiberg of Calgary, Sharon (Clarence) Protz of Yorkton, Veronica (Fred) Bidding of Dauphin, Joy (Charles) Witwicki of Canora and Kimberly (Arden) Lazorko of Edmonton, a brother, Mike (Bernice) of Chilliwack, B.C.; a sister, Nell (Stan) Noval of Winnipeg, 14 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Matthew Mikkonen, 20, of Invermay, who died Nov. 19, 2001, was held Nov. 23 in
Invermay Community Hall with Terry Tompkins officiating. Burial was in the
Invermay Cemetery with arrangements by Tompkins Funeral Home of Wadena. Born
Dec. 19, 1981 to Kim and Laurel Mikkonen, he received his schooling in
Invermay then worked for Rioch Construction. He is survived by his parents, a sister, Maria and a brother, Christopher. Canora Courier, February 06, 2002 OKRAINETZ:
Funeral service for George Okrainetz, 76, of Sturgis, who died Jan. 26 at
Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon was held Jan. 30 at Grace United Church
with Rev. Jennifer Lavesty officiating. Burial was in the Green Leaf Cemetery
with Preeceville Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born on Nov. 26, 1926, to Metro and Annie Okrainetz on a farm near Sturgis, he received his education in the Brookview district. During the 1950s, he farmed for several years near Sturgis then worked for The Pas Lumber Company as a caterpillar operator. He was a member of the operating engineers organization. In 1957, he married Carolyn Gulka in Preeceville. Predeceased by his parents, Metro and Annie, four brothers, Willie, Steve, Mike, and Paul, and two sisters, Mary and Verna, he is survived by his wife, Carolyn Gulka; a son, Joey Okrainetz of Edmonton; a daughter, Judy Tallas of Edmonton; a sister, Eva Parker of Vancouver, and two grandchildren. |
