Funeral service for Mary Wasylciw, 90, of Birch River, Man., and formerly of
Hazel Dell and Endeavour, who died in North Vancouver Apr. 18, was held Apr.
26 from the Holy Ascension
Ukrainian Orthodox Church with Rev. Michel Lomaszkiewicz officiating. Burial
was in the Crandel Cemetery in Birch River with Fault Funeral Home and
Crematorium of Swan River in care of arrangements. Born
in Austria June 19, 1911 to Mr. And Mrs Metro Hanchara, she immigrated to
Canada in 1913 and received her education in Hazel Dell, then married John
Wasylciw in Birch River. She raised her children in Endeavour and remarried in
the earls 1970s when she moved to Birch River. In 1999, she moved to North
Vancouver. Predeceased by her husband John in 1993, two sons, John and Fred Zamniuk, and a daughter, Rosic Johnson, she is survived he three sons, Metro Zamniuk of Prince George, B.C., Mike Zanmiuk of Abbotsford, B.C., and Nick Zamniuk of Winnipeg; one daughter, Minnie Faulkner of North Vancouver; 15 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren Canora Courier, May 08, 2002 MACALA:
Funeral service for Stephen Kasmir Macala, 89, of the Invermay Health Centre,
who died May 1 at the centre, was held May 4 at St. Anthony's Roman Catholic
Church, in Rama, with Rev. Andrew Sowa officiating. Burial was in the church
cemetery north of Rama with Leson's Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born
on Nov. 1, 1912, in the Buchanan district to Jacob and Pauline (Yasinski)
Macala, he attended Wasna School. On July 18, 1914, he married Mary Bugiera
and they lived on his father's homestead for two years. They moved 2.5 miles
west where they lived in a three-room log house until 1949, when they moved to
a farm two miles north of Rama. He farmed until 1965 when he bought a grocery
store in Rama, which he operated five years and then retired. For the past
three years, he lived at the Invermay Health Centre. Predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Pauline, and four sisters, Ann Ptycia, Mary Brak, Helen Murray and Nellie Bogash, he is survived by his wife, Mary, two sons, Phil (Roslyn) of Saskatoon and Sidney (Lynn) of Saskatoon; two daughters, Irene (George) Hunter of Saskatoon and Phyllis (John) Dean of White City, a brother, John, of Pilot Butte; two sisters, Susie Matsalla of the Canora Gateway Lodge and Elsie (Mike) Sliva of Buchanan; 10 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Funeral service for Katherine Miller, 92, of Yorkton and formerly of Rhein,
who died Apr. 25, was held Apr. 29 from the chapel of Bailey's Funeral Home in
Yorkton with Rev. Daphne Bender of Christ Lutheran Church in Rhein
officiating. Burial was in the Christ Lutheran Cemetery in Rhein with Bailey's
Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born
Oct. 4, 1909 at Rhein to Philip and Kate (nee Stricker) Jordan, she received
her education at the Rhein school and in July 1925, she married Conrad Miller
in Rhein where the couple made their home. She moved to the Yorkton and
District Nursing Home in 2000. Predeceased by her husband in 1983, two sons, Poland and Victor, and a daughter Freida in infancy, she is survived by three sons, Albert of Rhein, Elmer of Portland, Oregon, and Lloyd of Rhein; two daughters, Alvena (Dave) Brown of Yorkton and Dyan Bunting of Anglemont, B.C; one sister, Lydia Gelb of Regina; 19 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren Canora Courier, May 08, 2002 BOYCHUK:
Funeral service for Helen Boychuk, 85, of the Canora Gateway Lodge, who died
May 2 at the Lodge, was hold May 7 at Leson's Funeral Home with Rev. Peter
Wasylenko officiating. Burial was in the Canora Cemetery with Leson's Funeral
Home in care of arrangements. Born
on Dec. 12, 1916, west of Canora to Todor and Mary (Melnychuk) Dutchak, she
was the only survivor of a set of triplets. She attended Dnister School. On
Mar. 3, 1935, she married George Boychuk in Canora and they farmed in the
Amsterdam district. In 1964, she moved to Canora and was employed by the CN
Railway as head cook for a construction crew. She retired in 1981, but
continued to do minor work around the community. She belonged to the Ukrainian
Women's Association of Canada, Maria Markovych branch, the Canora Gateway
Lodge auxiliary, the Keen Age Centre and the Senior Pattern Dancers. Predeceased by her parents, Todor and Mary, three sisters, two in infancy and Ann, three brothers, Mike, John and Bill, and a grandson, George Glenn Boychuh, she is survived by three sons, Ernest of Preeceville, Eton (Felicia) of Burns Lake, B.C., and Glenn of Amsterdam; two daughters, Esther Epp of Nipawin and Margaret Petrucka of Regina; four brothers, Fred of Canora, Nick of Prince Albert, George (Mary) of Buckhorn, Ont, and Steve (Nora) of Victoria, B.C.; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral service for Marie Filipchuk, 71, of Yorkton, and formerly of the Rhein
and Hamton districts and Tadmore who died Apr. 22, was held Apr. 26 at St
Mary's Ukrainian Catholic church in Yorkton with Rev. Dmytro Dnistrian
officiating. Burial was in Yorkton City Cemetery with Bailey's Funeral Home in
care of arrangements. Born
Nov. 2, 1930 in the Rhein district to Mike and Annie (nee Dereniwsky)
Dombroski, she attended Kitzman School and Sacred Heart Academy and on May 30,
1953, she married Sam Filipchuk at St. Mary's Church. The couple farmed for a
short while in the Hamton district before moving to Tadmore. She was employed
at Frank's Department Store in Canora. In 1975, they moved to Yorkton where
she worked with Zellers until her retirement in 1981. She was a member of the
Ukrainian Catholic Church and served on the church board in Tadmore. She was a
member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League. Predeceased by her parents, a granddaughter and a brother, Edward Dombroski, she is survived by her husband; three daughters, Brenda (Doug) Suknasky of Regina, Sandra (Larry) German of Yorkton and Wanda Filipchuk of Regina; three sisters, Terry (AI) Gabora of Moose Jaw, Helen Fullowka of Sturgis and Diana (Doug) Hurst of Vancouver, and four grandchildren. Funeral service for Thelma Ruth Nekuliak, 65, of Danbury Sask., who died April
26 in Canora Hospital, was held May 4 in the chapel of Preeceville Funeral
Home with Rev. Frances Patterson officiating. Interment will be held at a
later date with Preeceville Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born
January 14, 1937 on the family farm in the Glen Elder district to S. Lee and
Dorothy Harper, she was educated at Prince Albert, Glen Elder and Sturgis
Composite High Schools. She worked at banks in Denver, Colorado, and Fort
Qu'Appelle before she married Nick Nekuliak on April 4, 1959, at the
Grantsville United Church, Norquay. She became a home maker, working on a
casual basis at Danbury Post Office in the late 1970s. She was a leader in the
Danbury 4-H Club and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Predeceased by a sister, Elaine, in infancy, she is survived by her husband and parents, brothers Terry (Joyce) Harper of Regina, Jerry (Ruth) Harper of Regina, and Ron (Carol) Harper of Regina, daughters Colleen (Delmer) Kucharyshen of Danbury, Cathy (Darryl) Deighton of Canora, Carol (Harry) of Sturgis, and eight grandchildren. A memorial service for Ernest William Frederickson, 81, of the Stenen area,
who died Apr. 24 at his farm home, was held Apr. 29 at the Kingdom Hall of the
Jehovah's Witnesses in Sturgis with Gerald Kreba of Yorkton officiating. Born
on Oct. 10, 1920, in Stenen, he received his education at George Albert
School. He farmed in the Stenen area. On June 10, 1950, he married Rose
Popowich in Sturgis. He was baptized as a Jehovah's Witness 58 years ago. Predeceased by his parents, Martin and Lucinda Frederickson, and a brother, Alfred, he is survived by his wife Rose; a son, Kevin (Kim) of Gerald, Sask.; two daughters, Janice (Sheldon) Steele of Sherwood Park, Alta., and Tracey (Jason) Johnson of Carlyle; a brother, Richard, four sisters, Inga Hamre, Carrie Bork, Lily Rayner and Sonia Andrusko, and five grandchildren. Funeral service for Henry Holstein, 85, of Saskatoon and formerly of Runnymede,
who died Apr. 23 was held Apr. 27 at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Pastor Dan
Moeller of Zion Lutheran Church officiating. Burial was in Yorkton memorial
Gardens with Bailey's Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born
July 11, 1916, at Rhein to Peter and Maria (nee Rutz) Holstein, he was raised
on the farm and attended Rhein school. On June 19, 1949, he married Edna
Alvina Bleich at Runnymede and the couple lived in Langenburg until 1965 when
they moved to Yorkton where he worked with the Yorkton School Division for 29
years. In 1999, the couple moved to Saskatoon and he became a resident of the
Sherbrooke Community Centre in 2000. Predeceased by his parents, three brothers, Peter, David and Abe and three sisters, Martha Miller, Mary Pfeifer and Annie Miller, he is survived by his wife: two daughters, Kelly MacKenzie of Saskatoon and Marcida (Tom Szanto) Holstein of Edmonton; two brothers, Jack (Freida) of Yorkton and Benny (Lorraine) of Yorkton; three sisters, Lydia Miller of Leader, Leah Brown of Yorkton and Rachael (Alvin) Miller of Campbell River, B.C., and two grandchildren. Burial was in St. Cuthbert's Cemetery in Kuroki with Tompkins Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born Sept. 21, 1910, to Swedish immigrants, Arvid and Esther Ekstrom on a farm east of Kuroki, she attended school in Kuroki and on Apr. 17, 1932, she married Ingman Vennesland. She was a member of the Kuroki history book committee. Predeceased by her husband in 1983, her parents and eight brothers, Hugo, Conrad, Andrew, Swen, Eric, Elis, Nets and John Ekstrom, she is survived by two daughters, Vilda Schmirler of Vancouver and Elsie Vennesland of Wadena: one sister, Anne Johnsgaard of Flin Flon, Man.,: two brothers, Fred Ekstrom of Vancouver and Albert (Polly) Ekstrom of Kuroki; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. |
