GOVAN:  Funeral service for Ethel Myrtle Govan, 77, of Quill Lake, who died Jan. 10 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, was held Jan. 15 at Quill Lake Community Hall with Rev. Cathy Coates officiating. Burial was in Quill Lake Cemetery with Tompkins Funeral Home in care of arrangements.

Born June 19, 1924, on the farm north of Invermay to Clifford and Ellen Foster, she came to Quill Lake with her family at the age of four. She took all her schooling in Quill Lake. After her schooling, Ethel worked in her father's store until 1942. Ethel married Lloyd Berndt, and to this union a son, Ronald, was born. Ethel and Lloyd later went their separate ways. Ethel then took a hairdressing course and operated the Golden Glow beauty salon in her home. After this, she worked in Moose Jaw, Calgary, and Resource for the department of agriculture. Ethel married Robert Govan and together they had four children, Greg, Brian, Kathy, and Cheryl. Together they farmed and raised their family in the Valley Plain district.

She was active in the Co-op Guild and Valley Plain community. They moved to town in 1979 and she became a member of the ladies' auxiliary. She was also on the history book and homecoming committees. Ethel was a driving force in the beautification association and was instrumental in the construction of the Canada Goose and the murals in Quill Lake. She was part of the adopt-a-grandma program sponsored by the girl guides.

Predeceased by two children, Brian and Cheryl, in infancy, her parents, Clifford and Ellen Foster, a sister Muriel, and a grandson, Brad, she is survived by her husband, Bob; sons, Ron Berndt and Greg (Hilary) Govan; daughter Kathy (Lorne) Prudent two brothers, Clifford (Phyllis) Foster and Gordon (Norma) Foster; three sisters, Leila (Bill) Piett, Jessie (Orton) Anderson, and Pat (Doug) Finlayson; and 10 grandchildren.

RAKOCHY:  Funeral service for Robert Rakochy, 78, of Canora, who died Feb. 2 at the Invermay Health Centre, was held Feb. 6 at SS. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church with Rev. Joakim Rac officiating. Burial was in the Canora Cemetery with Leson's Funeral Home in care of arrangements.

Born on Sept. 12, 1923, in the Stenen area to John and Helen (Yufrum) Rakochy, he attended Porcupine Plain and Stenen high schools. On July 13, 1946, he married Mary Hryhoriw of the Canora area and they operated a store in Ormside. After living in Ormside and Tadmore for a number of years, they moved to Regina where he worked as a foreman for a commercial construction company. After a number of years they moved to a farm in the Hyas district. At the age of 36, he began to develop paralysis in his left side due to lead poisoning. Farming became too difficult and they moved to Prince Albert where he worked for the Department of Northern Saskatchewan until he retired to Canora in 1984.

He was the past president of the Ukrainian Catholic Church.

Predeceased by his parents, John and Helen, and a brother, Walter, in infancy, he is survived by his wife, Mary; two daughters, Leona Calvert of Edmonton and Patricia Spilchen of Grande Prairie; three brothers, Victor (Gaby) of Sudbury, Ted (Denise) of Sudbury and Leo (Bernice) of Canora, five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

SCHULTZ:  Funeral service for Edward Schultz, 96, of Wadena and formerly of Kuroki, Hazel Dell and Lintlaw, who died Dec. 20 in the Pleasant View Care Home in Wadena, was held December 23 from the chapel of Tompkins Funeral Home in Wadena with Terry Tompkins officiating. Burial was in the Wadena Cemetery with Tompkins Funeral Home in care of arrangements.

Born Oct. 19, 1905 in Poland to Herman and Wadena (nee Ryckter) Schultz, he immigrated to Canada in 1913 and the family settled north of Kuroki. On May 26, 1932, he married Mary Bilyak in Hazel Dell and the couple farmed in the Kuroki/Lintlaw area until 1972 when he retired to Wadena and Quill Lake.

Predeceased by his parents, five brothers, Walter, Emil, Andy, Otto and Oscar and a sister, Pauline Novak, he is survived by seven children Bill (Anne), Hazel Gerlinsky, Harold (Joanne), Evelyn (John) Durance, Joan Hawley, Gordon, Brenda (Dale) Goodsman and Marion (Rand) Smile; two brothers, Alex (Mary) and John (Irene); two sisters, Vonda Radom and Bertha (Dave) Ott; 18 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren

STATCHUK:  Funeral service for Thomas Statchuk, 77, of Buchanan, who died Feb. 2 at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, was held Feb. 6 at Holy Spirit Ukrainian Catholic Church in Buchanan with Rev. Joakim Rac officiating. Burial was in the Canora Cemetery with Leson's Funeral Home in care of arrangements.

Born on Mar. 24, 1924, in the Buchanan district to Peter and Molly (Loshka) Statchuk, he attended Dydland School. In 1948, he married Irene Pasishnek. He farmed the land he was raised on and worked as a mechanic in Toronto, Van­couver, Rama and Pipe Lake. In 1985, he retired but continued to help out on the farm.

Predeceased by his parents, Peter and Molly, two brothers, John and Anton, and seven sisters, Cassie Dennis, Helen Woyce, Polly Lastiwka, Rose McGill, Jean Paslowski, Mary Hrynkiw and Annie Statchuk, he is survived by his wife, Irene; two sons, Mark of Regina and Brian (Shauna) of Buchanan; two daughters, Debbie McLeod (Jean Louis Gelinas) of Montreal and Monica of Edmonton; three brothers, Mike of Winnipeg, Bill of London, Ont., and Frank (Helen) of Toronto; a sister, Stephanie (Melin) Demery of Vancouver, and five grandchildren.

MILLER:  Funeral service for Rose Frosina Miller, 91, of Canora, who died Feb. 7 at Canora Hospital, was held Feb. 11 at Leson's Funeral Home with Rev. Frances Patterson officiating. Burial was in the Canora Cemetery with Leson's Funeral Home in care of arrangements.

Born on Apr. 19, 1910, in the Mulock district, near Rhein, to Spiridon and Petrunia (Stefaniuk) Babiuk she attended Kitzman School. During her life, she lived in Rhein, Endeavour, Preeceville and Hudson Bay before moving to Canora in 1977. She married Edward Miller in January of 1968 in Hudson Bay. She belonged to many church and community groups and held many executive positions, such as United Church president for two years in Endeavour and secretary of the Endeavour Hall. She suffered from a permanent disability poliomyelitis, which she contracted at the age of 15, leaving her unable to use one hand and one foot.

Predeceased by her parents, Spiridon and Petrunia, a son Walter, six brothers and three sisters, she is survived by her husband, Edward; three sons, Eric (Delores) Orlesky of Winnipeg, Ted (Lee) Rutkowski of Regina and Wayne (Gerry) Rutkowski of Winnipeg, a brother, William Babiuk of Winnipeg, 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

HONEY:  Douglas Charles Honey, 80, of Kelvington, and formerly of the Lintlaw district, died Jan. 21 in the Kelvindell Lodge. Interment of ashes will take place at a later date.

Born Oct. 15, 1921 on the family farm north of Lintlaw to Amy Ellen and George Thomas Honey, he attended Woodstone School and enlisted in the army in 1943. He returned in 1945 and farmed until 1972 when he moved to Lintlaw. He worked for the PFRA in the community pastures and for local farmers until he retired.

He is survived by one brother, Gordon.

BLOTSKI:  Funeral service for Wil­liam "Bill" Blotski, 64, of Prince Albert, and formerly of Preeceville, who died Feb. 8 at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, was held Feb. 12 at St. George Ukrainian Catholic Church with Rev. John Kratko officiating. Burial was in the Garden of Sermon on the Mount in Prince Albert Memorial Gardens with River Park Memorial Chapel in care of arrangements. Born on Mar. 27,1937, on the family farm in the Dobrowody district, he attended Lone Spruce and Orange Vale schools. He worked in southern Alberta and Saskatchewan as a farm labourer. In 1959, he was employed in Edmonton as a truck driver and, while there, he met and married Beatrice Kist. They moved to Prince George, B.C., where he was employed by Caribou Dry Bottlers in refrigeration. In 1974, they moved to Prince Albert where he worked as the service manager for P.A. Bottlers. Predeceased by his wife Beatrice in 1996, his father, Dan, in 1982, and his brother, Eugene in 1990, he is survived by his mother, Julia of Preeceville; two brothers, John (Elizabeth) of Edmonton and Walter (Jackie) of Preeceville, and two sisters, Mary (Paul) Pasiechnik of Preeceville and Elizabeth (Steve) Barteski of Invermay

BIBLOW:  Peter J. Biblow passed away in his 93rd year on February 7, 2002, with family by his side. Peter was born on June 21, 1908 to John and Magdalena Bybliw in the village of Lytsiwka, District of Dolyna, in the province of Halychyna, located in Western Ukraine. He immigrated with his family to Canada in 1909 and they settles on a farm near Buchanan. He attended North Lake School. On Nov. 19, 1933, he and Helen Dutchak were married. In 1934, they moved to their farm northeast of Buchanan. In his early days, Peter played the violin at dances and traditional three-day weddings. He gave this up several years after moving to the farm to devote more time to farming and his family. In addition to farming, Peter was active in the Wheat Pool, ran the grader for the local municipality, and was an active member and chairman of the Wergland School board. Upon the closure of the school, Peter drove a school bus for the next 10 years. He took great pride in getting to know all the students in the community and having a perfect driving record as a bus driver. He was also involved in the fund-raising, organization and building of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Buchanan. Part of his contribution to the annual fund-raising was his active participation in the amateur theatre night. His children will long remember him practising his lines on the tractor, in the barn and anywhere else he happened to be. Peter retired from farming in 1970 and moved to Yorkton. In Yorkton, he took employment at the Blackstone Hotel, a local pool hall, and then ran a Pizza Restaurant with Helen. His last employment was Croll's Men's Wear as a suit salesman for almost 10 years. Peter will be remembered for his proud, dignified manner and as a man who was always impeccably dressed for every occasion. Peter leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory, his devoted wife of over 68 years, Helen; five children, George (Christine) of Yorkton, Ivan (Heather) of Winnipeg, Elaine of Chilliwack, David (Laurie) of Saskatoon and Donna of Vancouver; 12 grandchildren, Zane, Sheldon, Duane, Lyle, Suzanne, Shelley, Sharon, Shaun, Dean, Duane, Kara and Glenys; 12 great-grandchildren, Gabriella, Taylor, Courteny, Milena, Jeremy, Joshua, Tanner, Caden, Tyler, Vanessa, Braiden and Jordan. Also surviving is a sister Mary (Mike) Dziaduk of Regina and numerous nieces and nephews. Peter was predeceased by his mother Magdalena, his father John, siblings, William, Fred, Anne (Naclia), Mike, Nick, Dymytro, Steve and son-in-law Vern Griffiths. Peter's grand and great-grandchildren held a special place in his heart and he always looked forward to their visits both while on the farm and later in Yorkton. In his later years, friends and family were of great pride for him. He always enjoyed socializing which included frequent visits to McDonald's for coffee. The prayer service was held on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002 at 7 p.m. from Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Yorkton. The funeral service was on Monday, Feb. 11, at 10 a.m. from Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church with Rev. Fr. Richard Ehrmantraut officiating. Interment followed in the Yorkton City Cemetery. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy, may make donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church P.A. System Project. Arrangements have been entrusted to Leson's Funeral Home, Canora, SK.
