Canora Courier, May 15, 2002 HLADUN:
Funeral service for Anton Hladun, 90, of the Canora Gateway Lodge, who
died May 8 at Canora Hospital, was held May 13 at the Ukrainian Orthodox
Church of the Holy Trinity with Rev. Peter Wasylenko officiating. Burial was
in the Canora Cemetery with Leson's Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born
on Sept. 9, 1911, in the Mikado district to Steve and Pauline (Dziaduck)
Hladun, he attended Verdant Valley and Zukunft schools. He worked on the
family farm and on Feb. 22, 1940, he married Ethel Dulock in Canora. They
farmed together for 26 years. He was a school trustee, secretary of the school
board and served for six years as a councillor for the Rural Municipality of
Keys. He was a member of St. Michael's Orthodox Church while living on the
farm and, a member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Canora. When they moved
to Canora in 1966, he worked for Canora Central Motors and Ethel worked for
the Gateway Motel. Predeceased by his wife Ethel, his parents Steve and Pauline, four brothers, Peter and Michael and two in infancy, and two sisters Nellie Hladun and Katherine Sushelnetsky, he is survived by two sons, Lawrence (Diane) Hladun of Regina and Anthony Hladun of Calgary; a daughter, Bonnie (Howard) Zorian of Calgary; a sister, Annie (Homer) Johnson of Esterhazy; three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Funeral service for Edward Albert Miller, 87, of Canora, who died May 6
at the Canora Gateway Lodge, was held May 10 at Leson's Funeral Home with
Marion Naduriak officiating. Burial was in the Canora Cemetery with Leson's
Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born
on Aug. 18, 1914, to William and Myrtle (Davis) Miller in Redvers, he attended
R dvers School. He married Rose Babiuk in January of 1968 in Hudson Bay. He
worked at a sawmill in Carrot River for many years and, later, became a
carpenter. He built many houses in Endeavour, Hudson Bay and the Preeceville
area. Predeceased by his wife Rose in February, his parents William and Myrtle and his twin sister in infancy, he is survived by three step-sons, Eric (Delores) Orlesky of Winnipeg, Ted (Lee) Rutkowski of Regina and Wayne (Gerry) Rutkowski of Winnipeg a brother, Wesley (Attie) of Hudson Bay and a sister, Agnes Thickson of Regina. Memorial service for Dorothy Linnea Dahl, 80, of Creston, B.C. and
formerly of the Margo district, who died at Vancouver General Hospital on Mar.
16, was held Mar. 24 at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Erickson, B.C., where her
remains were buried. Born
June. 3, 1921 on the Tjernstrom family farm near Margo, she married Clarence
Dahl on Dec. 31, 1942 and she taught school in numerous rural communities,
including Fosston and Rose Valley until moving to Saskatoon in 1957. In 1968,
she moved to Creston, B.C. Predeceased by a daughter Carol in 1996, she is survived by her husband; daughter, Sharon (Oakley) Rankin of Hornby Island, B.C.; three sisters, Elsie Nygren of Wadena, Bernice Byrns of Vernon, B.C. and Phyllis Ruthven of Ladner, B.C.; two brothers, Alfred of Tjernstrom of Toronto and Donald Tjernstrom of Margo; two grandchildren and one greatgrandchild. |
