claims life Funeral
service for a former Hyas resident who died in a traffic accident in British
Columbia January 7, was held in Preeceville Monday. Marlene
Gazdewich, 46, of Salmon Arm, B.C., died in the accident that occurred
shortly after 6 p.m. about 31 kilometes east of Revelstoke on the Trans Canada
Highway. Her
husband, Lorne, 52, was operating an eastbound tractor hauling two loaded flat
deck trailers. He failed to negotiate a sharp curve on the highway, sending
the tractor and trailers over the embankment where the unit came to rest about
30 metres below the highway, according to a release from Revelstoke RCMP. Marlene,
who was trapped in the tractor trailer, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her
husband survived the crash without injury Road
conditions in the area during the time of the accident are being described as
treacherous. Weather conditions at the time included heavy rain with dense
fog. The
investigation continues. Marlene is the daughter of Harry and Mary Zinchuk of Hyas. Lorne is the son of Nellie and the late Steven Gazdewich of Norquay. The couple has one daughter, Michelle, 20, who attends university in Kamloops. Canora Courier, January 16, 2002 – Personal items from Invermay Minnie Jack, 91, died on January 7. Jack has been a resident of the Lodge for a number of years. In years past she was a familiar figure at many sports days as she accompanied her son Billy, who took part in the pony chuck wagon races. She was predeceased by her husband, who died accidentally many years ago, her parents, a brother John Davis in 1989 and a sister. She is survived by four sons, Stanley, David, Billy and Dennis, their wives, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The funeral was held on January 12 at the Invermay Community Hall with Tompkins Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Burial was in the Whitesand Cemetery. The district was shocked to hear of the tragic death of Kevin Swiderski, 32, on January 9. He is survived by his parents Fred and Verna Swiderski of Invermay, his brother Curtis and sisters Shelly (John) Burghardt and Treena and husband. Canora Courier, January 16, 2002 BABUIK:
Funeral service for Anne Babuik, 80, of the Canora Gateway Lodge, who
died Jan. 9 at Canora Hospital, was held Jan. 14 at Leson's Funeral Home.
Burial was in the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Leson's Funeral Home in care
of arrangements. Born on Oct. 31, 1921, in Ethelbert, Man, to John and Catherine (Holobitsky) Budolowski, she attended school in Pelly. On Feb. 8, 1941, she married Nick Babuik in Pelly mid they farmed in the Norquay area. In 1973, they retired and moved into Norquay. Only recently, she became a resident of the Gateway Lodge. She worked at various jobs during her life including, telephone operator, at Troff’s Department Store and the Norquay drug store. Predeceased by her parents John and Catherine, two sisters, Mary Walz and Elsie Scheidt, and a brother, Mike Budd, she is survived by her husband, Nick; two sons, Ernie of Calgary and Ron (Lyn) of Kamloops; a daughter, Diane (Ron) Dutka of Calgary, a sister, Gloria (Tom) of Hudson Bay; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. |
