KOS:  Funeral service for Edward Kos, 86, of Rama, who died Feb. 13 at his residence, was held Feb. 16 at St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church in Rama with Rev. Andrew Sowa officiating. Burial was in St. Anthony's Parish Cemetery with Leson's Funeral Home in care of arrangements.

Born on Apr. 23, 1915, in Rama to Mike and Angela (Fullawka) Kos, he attended Rama School. He drove a truck for a number of years and, in between, he worked in Thunder Bay, Sudbury and Vancouver. Upon returning to Rama, he became the postmaster, a position he held until his retirement in 1980. In his younger years, he played the saxophone in a local band for weddings and dances. He was active on the Rama recreation board, on the executive committee of the Golden Age Club and he was a member of St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church in Rama. He did a lot of travelling throughout Canada and the United States.

Predeceased by his parents, Mike and Angela, a daughter Bernice Maroniuk, a brother Mike Jr., and two sisters Jean Lane and Alda Standell, he is survived by his wife, Nettle; two daughters, Shirley (Mike) Rome of Surrey, B.C., and Sharon (Roger) Vallee of Ponteix, Sask.; a brother, Tony (Trudy) of Vernon, B.C.; three sisters, Helen Yaworski of Rama, Trudy Karl of Vancouver and Florence Gabrych of Vancouver, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

MELNYK:  Funeral service for Tony Melnyk, 93, of the Yorkton and District Nursing Home, who died Feb. 16 at his residence, was held Feb. 19 at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Canora with Rev. Peter Wasylenko officiating. Burial was in the Canora Cemetery with Leson's Funeral Home in care of arrangements.

Born on Oct. 9, 1908, in Ukraine to John and Irene (Tokarus) Melnyk he immigrated to Canada with his family in 1921. He worked in several provinces but it was while working for a sawmill in The Pas that he met Elizabeth Rudachyk and they married on Aug. 19, 1937. They had a homestead in the Arabella district, he sang with the choir at the Swan Plain Greek Orthodox Church. In 1994, they retired to Yorkton and in 1997, he became a resident of the nursing home.

Predeceased by his parents, John and Irene, three sons, Percy, Bernard and Russell, and a great-grandson, Taylor Pollen, he is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; a son, Fred (Eileen) of Yorkton; a daughter, Diane (Dwight) Hayden of Kamloops; 13 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

YURKIW:  Funeral services for Paul Yurkiw, 96, of the Anderson Lodge in Yorkton, and formerly of Canora, who died Feb. 10 at the Lodge, was held Feb. 14 at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton with Rev. Dmytro Dnistrian officiating. Burial was in the Yorkton City Cemetery with Baileys Funeral Home in cane of arrangements.

Born to Gabriel and Barbara Yurkiw in the Mazeppa area, he attended Mazeppa School. He worked on the family farm and on Nov. 1, 1931, he married Lena Yurkowski. They continued to lived on the family farm. To supplement their farm, they raised turkeys and he had a collection route for the Canora Co-op Creamery. He was the chairman of the Mazeppa school board. In 1949, they sold the farm and purchased a house and garage in Mikado. They continued to raise turkeys. In 1955, they sold the garage and he began driving a school bus to Canora. At the same time, he also worked at Canora Beverages as the plant superintendent. In 1965, they moved to Yorkton and for about six years, he worked for the Yorkton Co-op Creamery turkey barns. In 1970, he retired but turned to beekeeping to keep busy, producing honey and beeswax candles. He was widowed in 1981 and after becoming ill, he became a resident of the Anderson Lodge in November of 2001.

Predeceased by his parents, Gabriel and Barbara, and a daughter, Stella Krepakevich, he is survived by three daughters, Lorna (Orest) Sackney, Florence (Paul) Lukash and Annette (Stanley) Popowich; 11 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

MARCHINKO:  Funeral service for Ann Marchinko, 86, of Yorkton, and formerly of Mikado, who died Feb. 8 at her residence, was held Feb. 15 at Leson's Funeral Home with Rev. Wesley Cwieka officiating. Burial was in the Canora Cemetery with Leson's Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born on Dec. 19, 1915, in Mikado to Harry and Katherine (Chomnikowich) Zelinski, she attended Verdant Valley School. On Nov. 25, 1931, she married Allan Marchinko in Mikado. In 1951, they moved to Winnipeg and in 1960, they moved to Yorkton. She enjoyed travelling and, in 1982, she visited Hawaii. She was a member of the Polish National Apostolic Church in Mikado for many years. Predeceased by her parents, Harry and Katherine, and three sisters, Ann, Rose and Kay, she is survived by her husband, Allan; a brother, Harry Zielinski of Riondel, B.C.; two sisters, Mary Melnyk of North Battleford and Lena Zavislake of Calgary and a step-brother, Stanley Gallant of Lacombe, Alta.
