Canora Courier December 08, 2004 Page 11 JOHNSON: Funeral service for Alver Howard Johnson, 86, of Sturgis, who died Nov. 27 at his home, was held Dec. 3 at Preeceville Funeral Home with Rev. Marcim Mironiuk officiating. Burial was in St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Cemetery with Preeceville Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born on Nov. 19, 1918, near Sturgis, he attended school in Sturgis and then went on to the University of Saskatchewan. He farmed most of his life, but served in the Canadian navy from 1943 to 1945. He was a member of the Legion, the Gateway Co-op, the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool and the Sturgis Credit Union. Predeceased by his mother in 1965, his father in 1977, and a sister in 2000, he is survived by his wife, Angela. Canora Courier December 08, 2004 Page 11 BRASS: Funeral service for Susan Brass, 96, of the Key First Nation, who died Dec. 3 at Canora Hospital, was held Dec. 7 at the St. Phillips Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Marcim Mironiuk officiating. Burial was in the St. Phillips Cemetery with Leson’s Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born on Nov. 21, 1908, on the Key Reserve to James Key and Margaret Desjarlis, she attended Gordon Residential School. She lived her entire life on the Key Reserve. In her younger days, she participated in ladies’ traditional dance. She was known as a great storyteller of days gone by. She was married twice, first to John Cochrane and then to George Brass Sr. Predeceased by her parents, James and Margaret, her husbands, John Cochrane and George Brass Sr., sic sons, Russell and Douglas Cochrane and Elmer, Delbert, Percy and Ivan Brass, three daughters, Lurina and Joyce Brass and Iva Cochrane, four brothers, George Edward, William and Simon Key, a sister, Margaret Chartrand, two granddaughters, Bonnie and Delilia Brass, three grandsons, Fred, Clarence and Roger Brass, she is survived by three sons, Charles (Mary) Cochrane of Keeseekoose First Nation, Fred (Marlene) Brass of Key First Nation and Winston Brass of Key First Nation; a daughter, Shirley Olive Brass of Key First nation; an adopted daughter, Pearl Papequash of Key First Nation; and a brother, George Blackbird of Saskatoon.

Canora Courier December 08, 2004 Page B8 OLM: Funeral service for Annie Olm, 83, of Langenburg, and formerly of the Canora district, who died Nov. 22 at the Centennial Care Home in Langenburg, was held Nov. 26 at Christie-Hill Funeral Chapel and Crematorium in care of arrangements. Born July 1, 1921 in the Canora district to Nick and Mary (Rudyk) Skwarchuk, she attended Wasyla country school. On Dec. 20, 1938, she married Albert Olm and the couple farmed north of Churchbridge until 1968 when they moved to Churchbridge. Earlier this year she moved to the care home in Langenburg. Predeceased by her husband, her parents, three brothers, Nick, Peter and John Skwarchuk, and two sisters, Katherine in infancy and Vera, she is survived by three daughters, Georgina (Allan) Heselton of White City, Darlene (Hank) Miller of Zealandia and Janet (Larry) Orth of Saskatoon; one son, Jerry (Betty-Anne) of Churchbridge; one brother, Bill (Mary) of Flin Flon, Man.; 12 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. Canora Courier December 08, 2004 Page B8 PRYSTAY: Funeral service for Joseph Prystay, 58, of Canora, who died Nov. 4 at his residence, was held Dec. 3 at Leson’s Funeral Home with Rev. Joakim Rac officiating. Burial was in the Olesha Catholic Church Cemetery, north-west of Buchanan, with Leson’s Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born on Mar. 17, 1946, in the Buchanan district to Paul and Mary (Tulik) Prystay, he attended Olesha School. He worked on the family farm as a labourer in the area. In 1969, he began working with the department of highways and continued farming. In April of 1998, an illness forced him to quit working and he remained on long-term disability for the rest of his life. In September, he marked his 35th year with the department of highways and the Saskatchewan Government and General Employees’ Union. He was a member of the Olesha Greek Catholic Church. Predeceased by his parents, Paul and Mary, a brother, Louis in 1996, and two sisters, Olia Prystay in 1968 and Zonia Gulka in 2001, he is survived by a brother, Nestor (Elaine) of Canora. |
