PAWLIW:  Funeral service for Dora Pawliw, 91, of the Springside district, and formerly of the Buchanan area, who died Aug. 21 at the Theodore Health Centre, was held Aug. 25 at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton with Rev. Methodius Kushko officiating.  Burial was in Yorkton City Cemetery with Bailey’s Funeral Home in care of arrangements.

Born in Buchanan on Mar. 5, 1913 to Alex and Anastasia (Shumay) Spilchen, she attended Asgarth and Chernowitz schools.  She married Dan Pawliw at St. Mary’s church in Yorkton Oct. 17, 1931.  The couple lived in the Buchanan area for two years before moving to the Springside district where they farmed.  She was president of the Catholic Women’s League of the Whitesand parish.  In 2000, she moved to the Theodore Health Centre.

Predeceased by her husband in 1978, her parents, two brothers, William and Nicholas Spilchen, two sisters, Maggie Popowich and Mary Darichuk, a son, Stanley, a daughter, Ella, and a grandson, Terrance, she is survived by one daughter, Helen (Paul) Byblow of Springside; two sons, Paul (Nettie) of Burlington, Ont., and Allan of Saskatoon; four sisters, Katie Coroll of Yorkton, Pearl Chay of Niagra Falls, Ont. And Nellie Bennett and Lena Janotte, both of Fort Qu’Appelle; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and on great-great-grandchild.

GULUTZAN:  Funeral service for Robert Peter Gulutzan, 55, of Saskatoon, and formerly of Canora, who died Aug. 29 at the Parkridge Centre in Saskatoon, was held Sept. 2 at Leson’s Funeral Home with Pastor Dean Forster officiating.  Burial was in the Canora Cemetery with Leson’s Funeral Home in care of arrangements.

Born on Aug. 6, 1949, at Canora Hospital to Peter and Mary (Chabun) Gulutzan, he attended school in Canora, graduating in 1967.  He was active in sports and played with a rock band called The Pink Panthers.  In 1972, he received a bachelor of commerce degree from the University of Saskatchewan.  He worked as a financial analyst for a traders group in Toronto, before accepting a similar position with the Revelstoke head office in Calgary.  In the mid-1970s, he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and when his father died in 1976, he chose to move back to Canora and take over the family farm.  By 1988, the disease had made him a quadriplegic and he depended on long-term health care from the Canora Hospital and Saskatoon Parkridge Centre.  Before MS took hold, he did much travelling in Canada, U.S. and Mexico.

Predeceased by his father, Peter, he is survived by two brothers, Stan of Canora and David of Calgary; two sisters, Betty Rohr of Saskatoon and Joan (Terry) Popoff of Springside.

PANCHUK:  Funeral service for John Panchuk, 90, of Invermay was held Aug. 18 at the Invermay Community Hall with Terry Tompkins officiating.  Burial was in the Invermay Cemetery with Tompkins Funeral Home in care of arrangements.

Born Oct. 6, 1913, to Alex and Annie Panchyk in Senkiew, Austria, he immigrated to Canada as an infant and attended school at Chain of Lakes.  He farmed east of Invermay until retiring in 1978.

Predeceased by a sister, Annie, his father in 1963, mother in 1980, and a brother, Steve in 1997, he is survived by three sisters, Mary Nimetz of Okotoks, Alta., Kay (Joe) Riou of Regina and Lena (Bill) Tomyn of Medicine Hat, Alta., and two brothers, Bill of Regina and Matt (Pat) of Margo.

BOHL:  Memorial service for Fred Bohl, 83 of Wadena, and formerly of Margo, who died Aug. 6, was held Aug. 10 with pastor Glenn Shore officiating.  Burial was in St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery in Margo.

Born May 22, 1921 in the Margo district to Edward and Leakadja (Ziola) Bohl, he attended Normania School.  On Jan. 10, 1942, he married Emily Tretiak of Rama and the couple farmed north of Margo for awhile before moving to Dryden, Ont., where he worked as the operator of a crawler tractor in a bush camp.  They returned to Margo to farm.  He served as a councilor for the RM of Sasman and as the mayor of Margo.  He helped build the skating and curling rinks in Margo and served as president of the curling rink board for many years.  The couple retired to Margo, then to Lintlaw.  He moved to Pleasant View Care Home in Wadena in 2000.

Predeceased by his parents, two sisters, Frida and Emma, a brother, Ernie, his wife, a granddaughter, Nina, and a great-granddaughter, Tianna, he is survived by two daughters, Adeline (Leonard) and Darlene (George), both of Lintlaw; two sons, Roger and Marlin (Shirley), both of Margo; two sisters, Lizzy and Helen; eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

KOBELKA:  Funeral service for Metro William Kobelka, 85, of Birch River, Man., and formerly of Gorlitz, who died Aug. 19, was held Aug. 23 at the Swan River Royal Canadian Legion, with Rev. Kathy Highmoor officiating.  Burial was in Swan River Cemetery with Swan Valley Funeral Services in care of arrangements.

Born Nov. 16, 1918 in Gorlitz, he moved to the Lenswood district when he was 18.  In 1942 he enlisted in the army and served overseas until the end of the Second World War.  He was a member o the Birch River branch of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Birch River United Church.

Predeceased by his parents, his first wife, Annie (Hrycyk), six brothers, John, Fred, Harry, George, Paul and Alex, and three sisters, Sophie, Mary and Annie, he is survived by his wife, Verna; eight children, Henry Wolf, Rick (Marie) Kobelka, Ron (Tracy) Kobelka, Vicki Dawson, Ken (Faye) Kobelka, Larry (Karen) Kobelka, Bill (Cindy) Kobelka and Arlene (Rob) Patterson; three brothers, Mike (Vicky) Steve (Jean) of Canora and Bill (Eunice); 18 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

HOMENIUK:  Funeral service of Annie Humeniuk, 95, of Canora, who died Aug. 29 at the Canora Gateway Lodge, was held Sept. 3 at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity with Rev. Peter Wasylenko officiating.  Burial was in the Canora Cemetery with Leson’s Funeral Home in care of arrangements.

Born on Sept. 27, 1908, to Mathew and Irene (Stratychuk) Kopeck in the Burgis district, she attended Poplar Springs School.  She worked on the family farm until she married John Humeniuk on Feb. 24, 1925.  They purchased their own farm southwest of Canora, where they farmed for 50 years.  She was known as an avid gardener.

Predeceased by her husband John, a son Ernie, her parents Mathew and Irene, two grandchildren, Patricia Ann and Larry Demchuk, three brothers, Steve, Peter and Mike and three sisters, Frances Zorian, Mary Homeniuk and Albena Diak, she is survived by four sons, Bill (Susie) of Logan Lake, B.C. Paul (Margaret) of Surrey, B.C., Norman (Minnie) of Regina and Michael (Donna) of Regina; five daughters, Jean Semchuk-Spencer of Chilliwack, B.C., Irene Watson of Langley, B.C., Violet Ostafie of Canora, Vicky (Emil) Ostafie of Canora and Florence (Dan) McNabb of Mission, B.C.; two brothers, Brownie (Bella) Kopeck of Canora and Walter (Mary) Kopeck of Calgary; two sisters, Olga (Bill) Danyluk of Canora and Jean (Harry) Wihnan of Canora; 32 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

STRATECHUK:  Funeral service for Eugene Gerald Stratechuk, 62, of Saskatoon, and formerly of Canora, 2ho died Aug. 28 at Canora Hospital, was held Sept. 1 at Leson’s Funeral Home with Rev. Marg Janick-Grayston officiating.  Burial was in Canora Cemetery with Leson’s Funeral Home in care of arrangements.  Born on Nov. 2, 1941, in the Lady Lake district to Bill and Mary (Malyk) Stratechuk, he attended West Wexford country school and Canora Composite High School.  On Feb. 3, 1962, he married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Finch in Kelvington.  His working career began as the town milkman for the Co-op.  After a number of years, he turned to his father’s trade of carpentry.  In later years, he managed to Canora bowling alley.  During his final years, he and his wife managed apartment units in Saskatoon.  Active in sports throughout his life, he played baseball in high school and as an adult played baseball, slo-pitch, broomball, bowling and billiards.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman.  He was the manager of the Canora Sterling Junior B hockey team, president of the Canora branch of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation an active member of the Canora Gun Club.  When his sons were involved in ball and hockey, he was an active coach.  Predeceased by his father, Bill, and a brother, Mervyn, he is survived by his wife, Marge; two sons, Keith (Twila) of Springside and Brian (Marsha) of Saskatoon; a daughter, Bonnie (Jack) Gerger of Weyburn; his mother, Mary Stratechuk of Canora; a brother Randy, of Canora, and five grandchildren.
