Canora Courier September 15, 2004 Page 11 GULUTZAN: Funeral service for Robert Peter Gulutzan, 55, of Saskatoon, and formerly of Canora, who died Aug. 29 at the Parkridge Centre in Saskatoon, was held Sept. 2 at Leson’s Funeral Home with Pastor Dean Forster officiating. Burial was in the Canora Cemetery with Leson’s Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born of Aug. 6, 1949, at Canora Hospital to Peter and Mary (Chabun) Gulutzan, he attended school in Canora, graduating in 1967. He was active in sports and played with a rock band called The Pink Panthers. In 1972, he received a bachelor of commerce degree from the University of Saskatchewan. He worked as a financial analyst for a traders group in Toronto, before accepting a similar position with the Revelstoke head office in Calgary. In the mid-1970s, he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and when his father died in 1976, he chose to move back to Canora and take over the family farm. By 1988, the disease had made him a quadriplegic and he depended on long-term health care from the Canora Hospital and Saskatoon Parkridge Centre. Before MS took hold, he did much traveling in Canada, U.S. and Mexico. Predeceased by his father, Peter, he is survived by his mother, Mary; two brothers, Stan of Canora and David of Calgary; two sisters, Betty Rohr of Saskatoon and Joan (Terry) Popoff of Springside. Canora Courier September 15, 2004 Page B5 PREDINCHUK: Funeral service for William (Bill) Predinchuk, 84, of Canora, who died Sept. 3 at his residence, was held Sept. 10 at Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity with Rev. Peter Wasylenko officiating. Burial was in the Canora Cemetery with Leson’s Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born on June 28, 1920, in the Canora district to Pete and Dora (Danyluk) Predinchuk, he attended the Wislow and Big Horn schools. He worked on the family farm and at various jobs throughout life, including working for the Town of Canora for a number of years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed gardening. Predeceased by his parents, Pete and Dora, and a brother, John, he is survived by a brother, Fred (Pauline) Predinchuk of Swan Plain, and three sisters, Lena (Peter) Babiuk of Cochrane, Alta., Mary Prokopchuk of Thunder Bay, Ont., and Victoria (Tom) Hock of Langley, B.C. Canora Courier September 15, 2004 Page B7 KOZMENIUK: Funeral service for Nellie Kozmeniuk, 81, of Yorkton and formerly of the Danbury district, who died Aug. 29 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Melville, was held Sept. 2 at Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church with rev. Roman Kocur officiating. Burial was at Canora Cemetery with Bailey’s Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born July 30, 1923 in the Danbury district to Harry and Polly (nee Sopiwnyk) Fedorchuk, she attended South Porcupine School. On Nov. 17, 1943, she married William Kozmeniuk at Holy Trinity Church in Canora. In 1948, the couple moved to Danbury where they farmed and she was active in St. Vladimir Ukrainian Orthodox Church. In 1982, they retired to Yorkton where she was a member in the Holy Transfiguration church. Predeceased by her husband in 1997, a son, Barry in 1966, her parents, three brothers, Mike, peter and John in infancy, and a sister Mary in infancy, she is survived by two daughters, Shirley (Floyd) Crowder of Calgary and Geraldine (Bob) Little of Lloydminster, Alta.; one son, Gerald (Melody) Kozmeniuk of Danbury; two sisters Pauline Kosteniuk of Regina and Annie Kowalyshen of Vernon, B.C., and four grandchildren. Canora Courier September 15, 2004 Page B7 HASSARD: A graveside service for Pauline Hassard, 70, of Canora, who died Aug. 31 at Regina General Hospital, was held Sept. 8 at Canora Cemetery with relatives officiating. Leson’s Funeral Home was in care of arrangements. Born on May 19, 1934, to Gustav and Helga (Jonnasson) Johnson in Langruth, Man., she attended school in Langruth. She married Delmer Hassard in Portage la Prairie, Man., on Oct. 29, 1955. They moved to France with their first son, Ted, in 1958. They returned to Canada in 1965 with two more sons. They lived and worked in various places and retired in 1986. In 1996, they moved to Canora. Predeceased by her husband, Delmer, and her parents, Gustav and Helga, she is survived by three sons, Ted (Karen) of B.C., Terry of Canora and Donald (Eunice) of B.C.; four brothers, Eric (Rose) Johnson, Fred (Margaret) Johnson, Wally (Anne) Johnson and Arnold (Linda) Johnson, all of Winnipeg; three sisters, Kay (Fred) Zulowski of Victoria, Marlene Schneider of Portage la Prairie and Sheila Johnson of Winnipeg, and three grandchildren. Canora Courier September 15, 2004 Page B7 STECIUK: Funeral service for Tatianna “Teenie” Steciuk, 94, of Canora, who died Sept. 4 at Canora Hospital, was held Sept. 9 at Leson’s Funeral Home with Eugene Bobyk of the Jehovah’s Witnesses officiating. Burial was in the Canora Cemetery with Leson’s Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born on Nov. 11, 1940, to Daniel and Eudacia Chalus in Canora, she attended Kowalowka School. She worked on the family farm until she married Mike Steciuk in Canora in February of 1930. She enjoyed country life. Predeceased by her husband Mike, her parents Daniel and Eudacia, a brother Bill and four sisters, one in infancy and Sophie, Katherine and Annie, she is survived by a daughter, Lillian Kahler of Winnipeg; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Canora Courier September 15, 2004 Page B7 ZAPLITNEY: Funeral service for John Zaplitney, 88, of the Canora Gateway Lodge, who died Sept 6 at the lodge, was held Sept. 9 at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Canora with Rev. Hector Seville officiating. Burial was in the Canora Cemetery with Leson’s Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born on Jan. 27, 1916, in the Tiny district to Dan and Julia (Ternowski) Zaplitney, he worked as a logger in Manitoba, a gold miner in Geralton and in an airplane manufacturing plant in Port Colbourne, Ont. When he married Mary Paslowski on July 1, 1945, he took over the family farm. In 1972, he moved to Canora and worked for several years for Wilson Construction and for John Deere Farm Equipment. When he retired, he moved to Park Place. He was a member of St. Joseph’s roman Catholic Church and sang in its choir. He was a member of the Keen Age Centre, Predeceased by his parents, Dan and Julia, four brothers, John, Michael, peter and Joseph, and three sisters, Ann, Frances and Pauline, he is survived by his wife, Mary; two daughters, Geraldine (Norman) Hooper of Ottawa and Jayne Zaplitney-Collins of Regina; a brother, Bernard of Saskatoon; four sisters, Adeline Kutney of Canora, Helen Tingley of Sardis, B.C., Ann Tumak of Calgary and Lucy Nikolychuk of The Pas, and four grandchildren. Canora Courier September 15, 2004 Page B7 KELLER: Funeral service for Elmer Clifford Keller, 73, of Regina, and formerly of the Nut Mountain area, who died June 19 at his residence, was held at Grace Lutheran Church in Regina. Born on July 23, 1930, in Duff to Jacob and Phyllis Keller, he was an infant when his family moved to Nut Mountain area. He married Verna in 1952 and they farmed in the Nut Mountain area until they retired to Regina in 2003. Predeceased by his parents Jacob and Phyllis, and a brother Wilfred, he is survived by his wife, Verna; a daughter, Brenda (Gilles) Gauthier; two sisters, Vi Gunderson and Doreen Huntington; a brother, Bill (Jean) Keller, and two grandchildren. Canora Courier September 15, 2004 Page B8 BOHL: A memorial service for Fred Bohl, 83 of Wadena, and formerly of Margo, who died Aug. 6, was held Aug. 10 in Margo with Pastor Glenn Shore officiating. A committal service followed in St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery in Margo. Born May 22, 1921 in the Margo district to Edward and Leakadja (Ziola) Bohl, he attended Normania School. On Jan. 10, 1942, he married Emily Tretiak of Rama and the couple farmed north of Margo. They moved to Dryden, Ont., where he worked as a heavy machinery operator at a bush camp. They returned to Margo and he farmed with his father and raised cattle. He volunteered many hours to organize the rodeos and he served on Rural Municipality of Sasman council. He later serviced as mayor of Margo. An avid participant in sports, he helped build the skating and curling rinks in Margo and served as president of the curling rink for many years. When he retired, they moved to Margo and later moved his house to Lintlaw. After his wife died in 1997, he went to live with his daughter, Adeline, until 2000, when he moved to the Pleasant View Care Home in Wadena. Predeceased by his parents, Edward and Leakadja, two sisters, Frida and Emma, a brother, Ernie, his wife Emily, a granddaughter Nina, and a great-granddaughter, Tianna, he is survived by two daughters, Adeline (Leonard) of Lintlaw and Darlene (George) of Lintlaw; two sons, Roger of Margo and Marlin (Shirley) of Margo; two sisters, Lizzy and Helen; eight grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. |
