SELF:  Jason Robert Self passed away at Yorkton Regional Health Centre on July 9, 2004 at the age of 24.  Jason was born September 28, 1979 at Langenburg Hospital.  He grew up at his country home and pursued many loves:  playing with his dogs and cats, farming with Grandpa and Uncle Bill, drawing, hunting, archery, fishing, snowmobiling, quadding, snowboarding, and biking.  His little sister joined him in 1982 and he immediately became her protector, friend and helper.  School years let Jason’s personality grow as he developed many skills and friendships that he cherished dearly.  Jason was a very kind, caring, and helpful young man.  He worked at Russell throughout highschool.  From mowing lawns, a chore he loved, to painting and cooking, Jason always took much pride in his work.  When his driving years arrived, the Blazer became his prize possession.  Jason graduated in 1997 from Major Pratt School.  In 2000, he moved to Regina to attend SIAST and became an EMT.  This is where he met his sweetie and soulmate, Jadda.  Jason continued to devote himself to helping others in need.  After graduation, Jason worked at Cupar, Canora and Preeceville for three years before he moved to Brandon to pursue his lifelong dream.  In March, 2004, Jason began training to be a firefighter at the Manitoba Emergency Services College.  During these last few years, Jason’s coworkers became his second family.  We always knew how happy Jason was at school.  He loved to come home on weekends to spend time with family and ride his bike with friends.  He always managed to have enough love for all who needed him.  Jason was predeceased by both his grandfathers, cousins Jim, Chris, and Ethan; and best friend Kelly.  Left to mourn and cherish his memory are: his parents Bob and Sherry, little sister Jennifer (Mike), sweetie Jadda.  Grandmas Lil Self and Gwen Buchberger, Great Grandma Lily Grube, many special aunts, uncles, and cousins, a special “sister” Michelle (George), god-daughter Sydney, many special coworkers, friends and everyone else whose life he touches with his special charm.

The funeral service was held July 14, 2004 at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Langenburg, with Father Peter and Deacon Conrad officiating.  Interment followed at Harrowby Cemetary.  Paullbearers were Jonathan, and Justin Munro, Art Pash, Matthew Davidson, Shane Nerbas, Jeremy Schaab, Lance Tremaine and Steven Boychuk.  Honourary pallbearers were all of Jason’s family and friends.  Honour guard was by the Manitoba Emergency Services College and the office of the Fire Commissioner.  Braendle-Bruce Funeral Service was in care of the arrangements.  Whoever said all the angels are in heaven was wrong, for we have been blessed with many angels here on earth.  Thank you to all who have come and stood by our side through this difficult time.  Your love, support, caring and generosity has touched our hearts more than words alone can say.  Our list is so long, please forgive us if we have forgotten anyone.  Thank you for ALL of the cards, letters, phone calls, visits, food, refreshments, supplies, flowers, plants, gifts, memorial donations, tables, chairs, fans, tent, contributions to our memory garden, help with preparations and for taking care of us when we needed you most.  Thank you for your strength, faith, all of the hugs, laughter, tears, and special memories of Jason that have been shared.  Cherish these with all your heart.  Thank you to Braendle-Bruce for you caring, compassion and prefessionalism.  A special thank you to Dave for all you have done for us.  Thank you to Father Peter, Deacon Conrad and the Catholic church folk choir; Albert for the beautiful eulogy; the RCMP, Yorkton Regional Health Center and EMS; Office of the Fire Commissioner and the Manitoba Emergency Services College for the honour guard; all EMS “families” Jason was a part of; our family, friends and coworkers for your overwhelming love and support.  To two very special angels, Fay and Brian, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking control and helping us through very difficult days.  Words cannot express how much we all need angels like you in our lives.  We are planting a memory garden for Jason.  Please drop in for coffee and a visit.  If you were important to Jason, you will always be important to us.  Jason was known by many different names and for many different things in his short lifetime.  Jason had a unique passion for life that drove him to rise to new heights and meet challenges that came his way.  He was proud of who he was and all he stood for, as are we.  He lived each day to its fullest.  To all whose lives he touched, cherish your memories of Jason and remember that this is not goodbye forever.  Love lives on forever in the heart.  We love you so much bud and will miss you until we meet again.
