Canora Courier September 29, 2004 Page 2 PROPP: Memorial service for Frieda Propp, 86, of Rhein, who died Sept. 10 at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon, was held Sept. 17 at Christ Lutheran Church in Rhein with Rev. Daphne Bender officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery with Christie-Hill Funeral Chapel and Crematorium of Yorkton in care of arrangements. Born June 24, 1918 in Rhein to Jacob and Katherine (nee Schwartz) Koch, she moved with her family to Portland, Ore., in 1920, but returned to Canada shortly after, settling in Venn and MacNutt before returning to Rhein district. She married Johnny Propp on Oct. 7, 1936 in Rhein. After farming for 37 years, the couple moved to Rhein. Predeceased by her parents, her husband in 1999, two daughters, Karen in 1946 and Bernice Starger in 1982, and five brothers, Leslie, David, Sam, Clarence and Lawrence, she is survived by one son, Randy (Marie) of Rhein; seven brothers, Albert (Irene) of Esterhazy, Arnold (Sigrid) of Port Colbourne, Ont., Jack of Rhein, Keith (Grace) of Qualicum Beach, B.C., and Gary (Jacqueline) of Kamloops, B.C.; two sisters, Beverly (Art) Cocroft of Mississauga, Ont., and Kathy (Ed) Knapp of Garson, Man., and two grandchildren. Canora Courier September 29, 2004 Page 2 HOLTE: Funeral service for Pauline Holte, 87, of Preeceville, who died Sept. 19 at the Canora Gateway Lodge, was held Sept. 24 at St. John Lutheran Church in Preeceville with Pastor Carlyle Johnson officiating. Burial was in the Preeceville Lutheran Cemetery with Preeceville Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born on July 28, 1917, in the Kitchen district to Harry and Palanka (Ewanuka) Baran, she attended Woodrock School. She worked on the family farm and for various farmers in the area. She married Melvin Holte on Mar. 3, 1941, at the Lutheran Church manse in Preeceville. After they moved to Preeceville, she babysat and worked at various jobs including working at Godfrey’s and Preeceville funeral homes until her retirement. Predeceased by her parents, Harry and Palanka, her husband, Melvin, two brothers, Mike and Bill, and two sisters, Annie and Antonia, she is survived by two sons, Dennis (Phyllis Gowan) of Preeceville and Stan of Largo, Flda.; a daughter, Dianne (Harold) Johnson of Battleford, and two grandchildren. Canora Courier September 29, 2004 Page 2 MacDONALD: A memorial service was held for Janet MacDonald, 89, of Invermay, who died Aug. 27, was held Sept. 1 at the Invermay Community Hall with Terry Tompkins officiating. Burial was in the Invermay Cemetery with Tompkins Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born on July 8, 1915, on the family farm to George and Ida (Greenwall) Whyman, she married Archie MacDonald on Jan. 24, 1933. They farmed for more than 40 years just a half mile from where she was raised. In 1973, they retired to Invermay. She was a member of the United Church Women and the TOPS Club. Predeceased by her husband, Archie, two sons, Lenard and Laird, a grandson Darcy, a great-granddaughter, Amanda, her parents, George and Ida, and three brothers, George, Charles and William, she is survived by three sons, Raymond of Invermay, Herb (Viola) of Lemberg and Mervin (Jolyn) of Creelman; a daughter, Merial (Bill) Smith of Hazel Dell; 16 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. Canora Courier September 29, 2004 Page 2 HOOPER: Funeral service for Robert Wayne Hooper, 50, of Canora, and formerly of the Sturgis and Norquay areas, who died Sept. 17 at Canora Hospital, was held Sept. 25 at Leson’s Funeral Home with Pastor Greg Bright officiating. Burial was in the Canora Cemetery with Leson’s Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born on Dec. 28, 1953, in Swan River to Henry and Alice (Scott) Hooper, he attended school in Swan River. He moved to Fort St. James, B.C., where he was employed at various jobs in saw mills for about three years. He moved to Manitoba, where he worked with the department of highways for about two years in Swan River and The Pas. He worked in a sheet metal factory in Winnipeg for two years before returning to the forestry industry, this time in The Pas, for four years. He moved to Swan River where he was employed by a janitorial company for six years and then he moved to Edmonton, where he worked for the same company. In 1989, he moved to Norquay. He married Selma Louise Clements on June 3, 1995. They moved to Sturgis, where he worked for the school division as a caretaker for six years. In August 2003, he retired and they moved to Canora. They attended the Gateway Community Church and he spent more time on photography, which was his hobby and passion. Predeceased by his parents, Henry and Alice, he is survived by his wife, Louise; two step-daughters, Janet (Shawn) Howard and Lori (Evan) Strelioff of Canora; a brother, James Hooper; and five step-grandchildren. Canora Courier September 29, 2004 Page 2 MOSTOWCHUK: Funeral service for Dora Mostowchuk, 87, of Sturgis, who died Sept. 24 at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, was held Sept. 30 at Trinity United Church in Preeceville with Rev. Miles Russell officiating. Burial was in Green Leaf Cemetery with Preeceville Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born on Apr. 5, 1917, in Preeceville to Tom and Polly Drebit, she attended Buchanan, Vaslowatz and Mamornitz schools. She married Philip Mostowchuk on Mar. 3, 1935. Predeceased by her parents, Tom and Polly, two sons, Waselka and Martin, three brothers, John, George and Alex, and two sisters, Mary and Maggie (Francis) Murphy, she is survived by a son, Sam (Dianne) of Sturgis; four daughters, Violet (Victor) Hrapchuk, Vivian (Ed) Ryma, Marie (Ken) Ebbert and Evangeline (Ken) Bohorson, all of Saskatoon; three brothers, Bill (Ann), Peter (Rose) and Steve; two sisters, Annie Boychuk and Katie Brezenski; 14 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Canora Courier September 29, 2004 Page 15 BUCHYNSKI: Funeral service for Andrew Thomas (Tom) Buchynski, 58, of Canora, who died Sept. 12 at his home, was held Sept. 22 at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church in Rama with Andrzej Sowa officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery north of Rama with Leson’s Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born on July 5, 1946, in Canora to Paul and Annie (Tytula) Buchinski, he attended Mason School. He worked on the family farm and then attended a tech school in Moose Jaw where he received his electrical journeyman’s certificate. He worked in the mining industry in Fort McMurray as an electrician. In the later years, he continued to farm the family homestead, while operating his own electrical business. Predeceased by his parents, Paul and Annie, two brothers, Carl in infancy and Rudolph, and a sister, Olga Wionzek, he is survived by a daughter, Cindy (James) MacLeod of Hinton, Alta.; two brothers, Louis (Pat) Buchinski of Saskatoon and Mary (Doreen) Buchinski of Kamloops, and three sisters, Elsie (Paul) Belcheff of Margo, Janet (Eddie) Yasinski of Buchanan and Mary (Joe) Kowalyshyn of Rama. Canora Courier September 29, 2004 page 15 BESKOWINEY: Funeral service for Mary Beskowiney, 85, of Yorkton, and formerly of the Stenen district, who died Sept. 17 at the Yorkton and District Nursing Home, was held Sept. 25 at Leson’s Funeral Home in Canora with Rev. Rod Luciuk officiating. Burial was in the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery north of Stenen with Leson’s Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born on Mar. 24, 1919, on the family farm in the Stenen district to Mike and Anna (Mirka) Ozimey, she attended Frame Lake School. She worked on the family farm until she married Mike Beskowiney on Aug. 1, 1940, at the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Church. She was an active partner in the farming enterprise. She was a faithful church goes and sang in the church choir. They retired from farming in the late 1970s. Predeceased by her parents, Mike and Anna, and two sisters, Sadie Chalenchuk and Pauline Ostapuk, she is survived by her husband, Mike, of Yorkton; two sons, Jerry (Judy Cadman) of Drumheller and Ernie (Dorinda) of Benalto, Alta.; two daughters, Alice (Roger) Keller of Canora, Shirley (Brian) Halarewich of Yorkton; a brother, Wasyl Ozirney of Canora; a sister, Lena Swehla of Brandon; eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Canora Courier September 29, 2004 Page 15 BOHL: Memorial service for Fred Bohl, 83, of Wadena, and formerly of Margo and Lintlaw, who died Aug. 6, was held Aug. 10 with Pastor Glenn Shore officiating. Burial was in St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery. Born May 22, 1921 in the Margo district of Edward and Leakadja (Ziola) Bohl, he attended Normania School. On Jan. 10, 1942, he married Emily Tratiak of Rama and the couple lived north of Margo for a short while before moving to Dryden, Ont., where he worked as a crawler tractor operator at a bush camp. They returned to Margo to farm, and he served as a councilor for the RM of Sasman, then the mayor of Margo. He helped build the skating and curling rinks in Margo and served as president of the curling rink for many years. He retired to Margo, then to Lintlaw. He moved to Pleasant View Care Home in Wadena in 2000. Predeceased by his parents, two sisters, Frida and Emma, a brother, Ernie, his wife, a granddaughter, and a great-granddaughter, he is survived by two daughters, Adeline (Leonard) and Darlene (George), both of Lintlaw; two sons, Roger and Marlin (Shirley), both of Margo; two sisters, Lizzy and Helen; eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. |
