Canora Courier, October 05, 2005 Page 11 BREZINSKI: Funeral service for Ada Brezinski, 67, of Yorkton, and formerly of Invermay, who died Sept. 27 at Yorkton Regional Health Centre, was held Sept. 30 at St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church in Lintlaw with Rev. Pius officiating. Burial was in St. Andrew’s Cemetery in the Invermay district with Preeceville Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born on June 26, 1938, in Arborfield to Bert and Alice Hawley, she attended school in Arborfield. She worked as a waitress in Tisdale for a few years. She married Louis Brezinski on July 18, 1959, in Tisdale and they farmed in the Invermay area. Predeceased by her parents, Bert and Alice Hawley, her husband, Louis, a brother, Douglas, and two sisters, Eleanor Chatfield and Rose Bernesky, she is survived by a son, Dwain (Bonnie) of Regina; two daughters, Joan (Daryl) Scheller of Lintlaw and Lorraine of Regina; a brother, Tim. of Nipawin; five sisters, Margaret Wilson of The Pas, Hilda Frisky of Arborfield, Muriel Brochy of Tisdale, Patsy Doherty of Melfort and Frances Hawley of Mayerthorpe, Alta.; sic grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Canora Courier, October 05, 2005 Page 11 JAMONT: A memorial service for Kenneth Jamont, 68, of Saskatoon, and formerly of Canora, who died Sept. 25 at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, was held Sept. 30 at Meewasin Valley United Church with Rev. Robert Schwab officiating. McKague’s Funeral Chapel was in care of arrangements. He served with the RCMP for 27 years. He joined the force in Langley, B.C. and was trained at Regina Depot. He was stationed in Yorkton, Canora, Vonda, Balcarres, Regina, North Battleford and Saskatoon. While serving with the RCMP he was on the musical ride’s only jumping team. After he retired, he spent two years with the Horse Racing Commission and then became the executive director of the Human Rights Commission. He also worked with the FSIN. He was an active volunteer with Western Development Museum and the RCMP Veterans’ Association of Saskatoon. He is survived by his wife, Myrna Ruth (Sherwin): three sons, Robert (Leanne) of Regina, Brian (Christa) of Langham and Michael of Vancouver; four sisters; two brothers, and seven grandchildren. Canora Courier, October 05, 2005 Page 11 SORESTAD: Funeral service for Donald Sorestad, 68, of Innisfail, and formerly of Buchanan. who died Sept. 26, was held Oct. 1 in Innisfail. A memorial service will be held on Oct. 8 at Faith Lutheran Church in Buchanan. Born on the family farm near Buchanan on Jan. 22, 1937, to Olaf and Adeline (Rosvold) Sorestad, he attended Christania School, Buchanan School and a partial year at LCBI in Outlook. He worked for an area farmer for a few years. In Alberta, worked in construction and did some seasonal farm work. In 1960, he married Helen Laboucan. They moved back to Saskatchewan in 1961 and he was employed in construction. In 1963, they moved to the farm and in 1966, he joined his brothers and a cousin in a large dairy venture. His wife died in 1974 and he decided to have his parents raise their five girls while he returned to Alberta to work as a heavy equipment operator. He met Pauline Giroux who became his partner in life. They lived in northern Alberta until his failing health forced him to leave work. They retired to Innisfail. Predeceased by his mother, Adeline, and his wife, Helen, he is survived by his partner, Pauline; five daughters, Karen (Bill), Sandra, Maxine (Geoff), Donna (Terry) and Penny; his father, Olaf; two brothers, Ralph (Pat) and Clifford; a sister, Alice (Harvey) Pickett; and four grandchildren. Canora Courier, October 05, 2005 Page B5 KELLER: Funeral service for Elsie Keller, 70, of Regina, and formerly of the Mikado district, who died Sept. 22 at Regina Wascana Grace Hospice, was held Sept. 28 at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity in Canora with Rev. Peter Wasylenko officiating. Burial was in the Canora Cemetery with Leson’s Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born on Sept. 3, 1935, on the family farm near Mikado to John and Anne (Zielinski) Boyda, she attended Verdant Valley School. She married Henry Keller on Nov. 20, 1954, in Canora. Predeceased by her parents, John and Anne Boyda, and her husband, Henry, she is survived by a son, Brent (Janet) of Water Valley, Alt.; three daughters, Karen (Larry) Shewchuk of Regina, Judy (Andrew) Zarazun of Calgary and Linda (Tim) Hryhoriw of Melville; two brothers, Peter (Sylvia) of Edmonton and Alex (Sandra) of Regina; five sisters, Anne Hudye of Kamsack, Olga Ostafie of Mikado, Lena (George) Stadnyk of Regina, Irene Gurski of Willowbrook and Victoria Krishka of Canora; and three grandchildren. Canora Courier, October 05, 2005 Page B5 KURZUK: Funeral service for Mary Kurzuk, 90, of the Canora Gateway Lodge, who died Sept. 27 at the lodge, was held Sept. 30 at Grace United Church in Sturgis with Rev. Miles Russell officiating. Burial was in the Canora Cemetery with Leson’s Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born on Apr. 11, 1915, in the Swan Plain district to Anton and Rose (Fensyk) Sakalo, her family moved to Reserve area when she was very young. The family moved to a farm four miles north of Danbury in 1926 and she attended South Porcupine School. She did light housekeeping duties for several families in the area until she married John Kurzuk on Feb. 19, 1933. They lived in the Danbury district until 1975 when they moved to Sturgis. John was a millwright for Fred Dalton’s sawmill crew during the winters of 1957 to 1959 and she cooked for the crew. She enjoyed making handicrafts and became known for her hand-made dolls. She was a member of the READ Club and the Grace United Church of Sturgis. In November of 2003, she moved to Aspen Bluffs Villa, a personal care centre in Yorkton. In March of 2005, she moved to Canora Gateway Lodge. Predeceased by parents, Anton and Rosie Sakalo and her husband, John, she is survived by a son, Morris (Annelie) of Amherstburg, Ont.; three daughters, Sylvia West of Windsor, Gladys Howard of San Mateo, Calif., and Natalie Kurzuk of Calgary. Service was held in Regina, Victoria Ave. Funeral Home, Sept. 19 with Cliff Geiger officiating. Burial of ashes in Canora Sept. 21. Predeceased by parents, brothers Ernie and Metro Nicolychuk, sister Audrey Stelner, she is survived by husband Owen Peever of Regina; two sons, Robert (Minna) of Edmonton, and Harvey; two grandsons, Steve and Derek of Saskatoon; sister Mary Rakochy of Canora; sister-in-law Anne of Regina; brothers Harold (Audrey) Nicolychuk of The Pas; Peter (Moira) Mosondz of The Pas; nieces and nephews. She moved to Yorkton in 2003, after the death of her husband, Louis, but prior to that she had lived on the family farm since 1961. She is survived by a son, Dwain (Bonnie) of Regina; daughters, Joan (Daryl) Scheller of Lintlaw and Lorraine of Regina, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral service was held in St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church of Lintlaw with interment of ashes in St. Andrew’s Cemetery northeast of Invermay. |
