Interment was in Invermay Cemetery, Joyce and Wilbur Haning farmed north of Invermay until they retired. After spending a number of years in Vernon, BC, they returned to live in Rose Valley. Canora Courier, October 12, 2005 Page B5 KRUKOFF: Mrs. Lena Krukoff passed away Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2005 at Queen Victoria Hospital in Revelstoke, B.C. at the age of 83 years. Lena was born in Langham, Sask. On Feb. 25, 1922. She had been a long-time resident of Canora, Sask. And had resided in Revelstoke since 1980. Lena was predeceased by her husband, Nick in 1985, and her brothers and sisters. She will be lovingly remembered by her three children, Irene (Mike) Firomski of Revelstoke, Donna Krukoff of Revelstoke and Allan (Cindy) Krukoff of Tofino, B.C,; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service was held on Friday, Oct. 7, 2005 from the chapel of Brandon Bowers Funeral Home, Revelstoke, B.C. Interment followed in Mountain View Cemetery, Revelstoke. Canora Courier, October 12, 2005 Page B6 BOBRYK: Funeral service for John Bobryk, 81, of Wadena, and formerly of the Invermay district, who died Sept. 14 at Wadena Hospital, was held Sept. 17 at Narfason’s Funeral Chapel with Rev. Mel Slashinsky officiating. Burial was in St. Cuthbert’s Cemetery in Kuroki. Born on Jan. 19, 1924, to John and Fidori Bobryk in Ukraine, he was four years old when his family immigrated to Canada. His family farmed in the Invermay district until 1936, when they moved to a farm north of Margo. At the age of 16, he left school and entered the work force. He started by cutting brush, chopping wood and stoking for neighbours. In 1945, he worked on a CP Railway extra gang. During the next few years, he cut lumber and worked for farmers in the area. In 1948 he married Kate Tysiaczny and they lived with her parents for three years. In 1951, they bought their own land in the area. He farmed until the early 1970s when he decided to rent the land while he continued to raise livestock until the mid 1980s. Predeceased by a daughter Paulette, his parents, John and Fidori, six brothers, Bill, Pete, Nick, Harry, Bill and Fred, and two sisters Anne and Fannie Sikora, he is survived by his wife, Kate; four daughters, Darcie Wasyluk, Donna (James) Woloshyn, Roxanne (Darwin) Zimrose and Les Wasyluk; a brother, Mike; a sister Mary Reutlinger; and five grandchildren. Canora Courier, October 12, 2005 Page B6 YAGINISKI: Funeral service for Nita Yaginiski, 91, of the Norquay Health Centre, who died Oct. 4 at her residence, was held Oct. 8 at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Hyas with Rev. Patrick Powalinsky officiating. Burial was in the Canora Cemetery with Leson’s Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born on mar. 12, 1914, near Hyas to Mike and Mary (Dowhea) Koroluk, she attended Lake Helen School. She had several jobs before she married Metro Yaginiski on Oct. 28, 1933. They farmed in the Hyas district until 1964 when they retired to Hyas. She was an active member at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Hyas and especially enjoyed participating in the choir. She was a member and director of the Golden Age Centre in Hyas. Over the years, she received a number of horticultural show trophies. Predeceased by her parents, Mike and Mary, her husband, Metro, and a brother, Mike, she is survived by three daughters, Gloria Lozinski of Stenen, Lorraine (Joe) Mirva of Danbury and Sonia (Harry) Sowa of Hyas; two sisters, Cassie Yaganiski of Hyas and Helen Prosko of Watson; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Canora Courier, October 12, 2005 Page B6 YACHYSHYN: Funeral service for Julia Yachyshyn, 75, of Buchanan, who died Sept. 29 at her residence, was held Oct. 5 at Leson’s Funeral Home with Rev. Joakim Rac officiating. Burial was in the Buchanan Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery with Leson’s Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born of Jan. 23, 1930, to Wasyl and Doris (Prystay) Kosheluk, she attended Monastyr School. She married Phillip Yachyshyn in November of 1958 in Canora. Predeceased by her parents, Wasyl and Doris, her husband, Philip, two sons, Harry in infancy and Philip Jr., a daughter, Virginia in infancy, a brother, John Kosheluk and a sister, Mary Lanski, she is survived by a son, Allen of Buchanan; two daughters, Monica Yachyshyn of Yorkton and Maryann Yachyshyn of Yorkton; a brother, Mike Kosheluk of Preeceville; two sisters, Lena (Mike) Glowatsky and Tillie Senyk; and three grandchildren. Canora Courier, October 12, 2005 Page B6 KRASOWSKI: Funeral service for Helen Krasowski, 65, of Yorkton, and formerly of the Rhein district, who died Aug. 30, was held Sept. 3 at St. Gerard’s Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Basil Chomos officiating. Burial was at Yorkton City Cemetery with Christie-Hill Funeral Chapel and Crematorium of Yorkton n care of arrangements. Born May 11, 1940 to Anton and Tekla (Derenewski) Puchala of the Rhein district, she attended Kitzman School then graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in Yorkton in 1957. On June 15, 1963, she married Mervin Krasowski at St. Gerard’s Church in Yorkton. She worked at the Bank of Montreal in Regina, then transferred to the Yorkton branch. She helped her husband operate a home-based electrical business for 28 years and worked at K-Mart and Zellars. She was active in St. Gerard’s parish. Predeceased by her parents and two brothers, Paul and martin, she is survived by her husband; two sons, Jeff and Ward (Darcie) and two daughters, Tammy (Bob Morrison) and Naomi (Cory) Walkington; two brothers, Alex (Beatrice) and Victor (Vickie); two sisters, Anne Achtemichuk and Mary Puchala, and four grandchildren. Canora Courier, October 12, 2005 Page B6 REDIGER: Funeral service for Lucille Charlotte Rediger, 81, of Wadena, and formerly of Margo, who died Aug. 6 at Wadena Hospital, was held Aug. 12 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wadena was Pastor Daphne Bender officiating. Burial was in St. Peter’s Cemetery, north of Margo, with Tompkins Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born on July 27, 1924, in Prystanie, Poland, to Joseph and Olga Franke, she was four years old when her family immigrated to Canada. They settled in the Margo district and she attended Olivet Country School, east of Margo. On Oct. 27, 1946, she married Ernest Rediger and they farmed north of Margo. In 1984, they retired to Wadena. She was a member of the Lutheran church and was active with the Evangelical Lutheran Women’s organization. Predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Olga, her husband, Ernest, a daughter Carol in infancy and a brother, Felix, she is survived by a son, Douglas (Susan) of Regina; a daughter, Janet (Bill) Liss of Burnaby and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Canora Courier, October 12, 2005 Page B6 SAKAL: Funeral service for Sadie Sakal, 86, of Swan River, and formerly of Gorlitz, Canora, Mikado and Whitebeech, who died Sept. 16, was held at Holy Ascension Ukrainian Orthodox church in Swan River on Sept. 21 with Rev. Patrick Powalinsky officiating. Burial was at Birchwood Cemetery in Swan River with Paull Funeral Home and Crematorium in care of arrangements. Born Nov. 30, 1918 in Gorlitz to Harry and Marie (Kobelka) Skibinsky, she moved with her family to Canora in 1925, then to Donwell where she received her education. On Sept. 19, 1936, she married William Sakal and the couple moved to Mikado. In 1947, the couple moved to a farm began working in the housekeeping department at the Swan River Hospital. She moved to Swan River where she lived until 1979 when she moved to Edmonton where she worked at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home. After retiring in 1983, she moved to Yorkton, then in 1993, she returned to Swan River. She was a resident of the Swan Valley Lodge. Predeceased by her father in 1943, mother in 1951, husband in 1974, a grandson, Cory in 2004, and all her brothers and sisters, she is survived by five sons, Lawrence (Elsie) of Yorkton, Zane (Ruby), William and Leonard (Gwen) all of Swan River, and Eugene (Gail) of Calgary; three daughters, Lavina (Peter) Leung of Swan River, Sonia Kereluk of Calgary and Elaine (Mike) Mudry of Carvel, Alta.; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Canora Courier, October 12, 2005 Page B6 BURBACK: Funeral service for Richard Burback, 74, of Yorkton, and formerly of Rhein, who died Sept. 4 at Yorkton Regional Health Centre, was held Sept. 8 at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor Fred Schneider officiating. Burial was at Yorkton memorial Gardens with Christie-Hill Funeral Chapel and Crematorium of Yorkton in care of arrangements. Born July 22, 1931 in Rhein to Henry and Molly (Mehling) Burback, he attended school in Rhein and Yorkton Collegiate before entering the Moose Jaw Normal School. He taught school for 38 years, first at Grunert School near Yorkton, then in Rhein from 1952 to 1965, serving as principal from 1960 t 1965. While in Rhein, he played trumpet in a small band and taught square dancing. He enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan and obtained his bachelor of education degree in 1966, then returned to Yorkton where he taught, and worked as principal to Victoria School. In 1971, he transferred to Fairview School. From 1972 until his retirement in 1989, he taught at Yorkdale Junior High School. From 1991 to 2001, he and members of his family owned and operated a Subway Restaurant. He was a member of the Lions vlub, the rock and gem club, the multicultural society and the German club. Predeceased by his father in 1972, his mother in 1983, and step-father, Herman Clark in 1990, he is survived by his wife, Miriam; three sons, Glen (Shelly), Byron (Lynda) and Kelly (Tracy Belzner), all of Yorkton; three daughters, Karen (Gord Kinhniki) of Saskatoon, Laurel (Harley) Fatteicher of MacNutt and Janine (Michael) Dumka of Leduc, Alta.; two sisters, Leona Chepil of Surrey, B.C., and Marlene (Wally) Rodgers of Yorkton; three brothers, Herb (Joan) of Saskatoon, Merv of Abbotsford, B.C. and Dwayne (Lynda) of Yorkton; eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. |
