Canora Courier May 18, 2005 Page 9 HEINTZ: Funeral service for Vera Heintz, 80, of Yorkton, and formerly of Rhein, who died Apr. 24 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre, was held Apr. 28 at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Faye Greer of Westview United Church officiating. Burial was at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Bailey’s Funeral Hoe in care of arrangements. Born Dec. 5, 1924 in Rhein to George and Eva (nee Hilderman) Peppler, she received her education in Rhein then attended a business course at Yorkton Collegiate. She was employed at the Royal Bank of Canada in Yorkton. On May 18, 1949, she married Joe Heintz. She worked at a tailor with her husband until retiring in 1984. Predeceased by her parents, three brothers, Rheinhold, Clifford and Ernie and one sister, Ella Grunert, she is survived by her husband; one daughter, Debbie Perzan of Regina; one sister, Terry (ken) McLeod of Stonewall, Man.; one brother, Gerald (Bev) Peppler of Barrie, Ont., and two grandchildren. Oystryk, 85, of Yorkton, and formerly of Rhein and the Mazeppa district, who died May 1, was held May 6 at Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Yorkton with Rev. Roman Kocur officiating. Burial was at the Sliding Hills Christian Cemetery at Mazeppa with Bailey’s Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born Oct. 12, 1919 in Rhein to Dan and Helen (nee Gramyk) Oystryk, he was raised in the Rhein district and attended Cedric School. He worked at a packing house in Winnipeg during the Second World War and began farming in the Hamton district in 1947. He married Elsie Andrusiak on June 20, 1948 and the couple moved to a farm in the Mazeppa district where they farmed until retiring to Yorkton in 1977. Predeceased by his parents, his wife in 2002, and daughter in infancy, two sons, Harvey and Allan in 1975, and two brothers, Bill and Nick, he is survived by one brother, Sam (Alice) of Yorkton; two sisters, Pearl Bilan and Mary Pedley, both of Merritt, B.C. Canora Courier May 18, 2005 Page 9 HUSACK: Funeral service for John Husack, 83, of Lloydminster, who died mar. 15, was held in Saskatoon. The ashes are to be buried May 20 at the Yorkton City Cemetery with Rev. Brian Bayda officiating. He was born Mar. 12, 1922 to Mike and Nellie Husack in Tiny. Predeceased by his wife, Stella; six brothers and sisters, his parents and two grandchildren, he is survived by four children, Terry (Ernie) Kramchynski of Saskatoon, Brenda (Ed) Tallon of Lloydminster, Debra Husack (Gary Parker) of Leduc and Colleen Forster (Malcolm Foster) of Saskatoon; one sister, Agnes Shabbits, a brother, Jack (Pauline) Husak; seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Canora Courier May 18, 2005 Page 9 RICHFORD: A memorial service for Willis Richford, 99, of Norquay, who died May 6 at the Norquay Health Centre, will be held on May 21 at the Norquay United Church. Cremation has taken place. Following the Norquay service, interment will take place at Yorkton memorial Gardens. Born in Hastings, Sussex, England, on Nov. 1, 1905, to Arthur and Annie Richford, he came to Canada in 1924 to attended Saskatoon Normal School. In the 1920s and 1930s, he taught at one-room rural schools in Chelan from 1941 to 1948. After attaining a bachelor of education degree in 1949, his teaching career resumed in Preeceville. He moved to Norquay in 1953 and taught school until 1970, when he retired. He met Agnes Ena Turner while holidaying in England in 1929 and they married in Winnipeg in 1930. For more than 60 years, he was a supporter of the Hudson Bay Route Association. He served as a director and president and, subsequently, as an honorary life member. His tireless and passionate work as an advocate for greater use of the Port of Churchill was recognized across much of the prairies and there are some who have said that it was due to his efforts that the Port of Churchill remains in operation. In Norquay, a large mural proclaims Norquay as the “Home of Mr. Churchill – Willis Richford” as does a medallion produced by the Norquay Chamber of Commerce in 2000. His service to the community and province was recognized in 1992 when he received the 125th anniversary Canadian Commemorative Medal. In 1984, he received the Citizen of the Year award for northeastern Saskatchewan. Only months away from his 100th birthday, Richford received the Saskatchewan Centenarian Medallion which is engraved “100 years of heart”. Predeceased by his parents, his wife Ena in 1995, and three brothers, he is survived by a son, Roy (Jean) of Victoria; two grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Canora Courier May 18, 2005 Page 9 KNIAZ: Funeral service for Mike Kniaz, 69, of Flin Flon, and formerly of the Canora district, who died at his residence, was held May 14 at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Rev. Roman Kocur officiating. Burial was in the Garden of Gethsemane at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Bailey’s Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born on Nov. 2, 1936, in the Canora district to Andrew and Annie (Chopty) Kniaz, he attended Strathcona School. He worked on the family farm near Canora until he moved to Flin Flon in 1972. He worked at Midwest Drilling and later at HBMS until his retirement in 1994. During his retirement, he enjoyed working with wood, making items such as butterflies, calendars and corner units. Predeceased by his father Andrew in 1956, his mother Annie in 1976, and two brothers, Wasyl (Bill) in 1992 and John in 1984, he is survived by a brother George (Joyce) Kniaz and a sister, Eileen Sawka. Canora Courier May 18, 2005 Page 9 DARMOCHID: Funeral service for Paulina Darmochid, 86, of Yorkton, and formerly of Endeavour, Theodore and the Ketchen district, who died May 1 at the Yorkton and District Nursing Home, was held May 5 at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Eugene Mellish of the congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses officiating. Burial was at Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Bailey’s Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born Oct. 29, 1918 to Phillip and Adeline (nee Derin) Romanyshyn, she was raised in the Ketchen district and attended Netchie Hills School. She married Nick Darmochid and the couple farmed in the Stove Creek area. They lived in Endeavour for awhile before moving to a farm north of Theodore. Predeceased by her parents, her husband, two sons, Eugene in infancy and Darryl, three brothers, Paul, Joe and Bill, and two sisters, Stella and Helen, she is survived by three sisters, Mary and Julia of British Columbia and Frances of Ontario.
