Canora Courier, March 08, 2006 Page 1 Buchanan area man dies in grid road MVA A 33-year-old male from the Buchanan-district died as a result of a two-vehicle accident five miles north of Tiny on a grid road Tuesday morning. The deceased was the driver and lone occupant of a south-bound vehicle which collided with a west-bound vehicle at an uncontrolled intersection. The driver and lone occupant of the west-bound vehicle received medical attention for unknown injuries, said Sgt. Brian Jones, an RCMP media relations officer. Canora RCMP and EMS technicians responded to the collision shortly before 8 a.m. The name of the deceased will not be released, pending notification of next of kin, Jones said. Canora Courier, March 08, 2006 Page 12 – Personal items of interest to Invermay and district readers A memorial service was held Mar. 3 at the Invermay Hall for Jerome Landstad, who died Feb. 24 at age 70. Judy Sorestad was organist and special music was provided by the men’s Woodland Choir. Nancy Genoway and Cindy Dean-Morrison attended the memorial book. Sheldon Landstad was urn-bearer and eulogist, relating the highlights of Jerry’s life. The whole family (including Jerry) is quite musical and he was also very good in the kitchen. Sports, hockey, hunting and fly-in fishing and, in his later years, golf, were his pastimes. He spent many hours playing cards with his great-nephews and great-nieces. Jerry was also a devoted participant at the hockey rink. His ashes will be interred (at a later date) in the Whitesand Scandinavian Cemetery where he had been a committee member since the formation of the Whitesand Lutheran Church. Honorary pallbearers were Ted and Elaine Stallard, Barry Johnson, Jack and Ilene Rioch, Sil Ha Ng and all the coffee row people with whom he socialized. Canora Courier, March 08, 2006 Page 13 KALNICKI: Funeral service for Isabel Kalnicki, 67, of Canora, who died Dec. 2, was held Dec. 6 at Tompkins Funeral Home in Wadena with Terry Tompkins officiating. Burial was in the Canora Cemetery with Tompkins Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born on Mar. 8, 1938, in Wolseley to Ted and Helen Nickolson, she attended school in Wolseley. She moved to Regina and got a job in the housekeeping department of a hospital. She married Alexander Kalnicki and they lived I Regina for a year before moving to Grenfell. About a year later they moved to farm in the Rama area. After her husband died in 1985, she moved to Invermay with her children. In 200, when her health began to fail, she moved to Canora. Predeceased by her parents, Ted and Helen, her husband, Alex, and a sister Maryanne, she is survived by three sons, Allan (Maryann) of Saskatoon, Roger of Yorkton and James (Theresa) of Saskatoon; six daughters, Janice (Morris) Tomyn of Invermay, Kathy (Marvin) Tarnowetski of Foam Lake, Beverly (Morris) Juve of Invermay, Laura (Dave) Sheldon of Airdrie, Alta., Johann (Dean) Hydamaka of Saskatoon and Carol (Robin) Jennings of Canora; a brother, Donnie (Pearl); 18 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Canora Courier, March 08, 2006 Page B6 BOYCHUK: funeral service for Antonia Boychuck, 94, of Canora, who died Feb. 27 at Canora Hospital, was held Mar. 4 at SS. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in Canora with Rev. Joakim Rac officiating. Burial was in the Vasloutz Ukrainian Catholic Church Cemetery, south of Buchanan, with Leson’s Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born on Oct. 12, 1911, in the Dobrowody district to Gregory and Mary (Bugera) Wilgosh, she attended Olesha School. On May 12, 1934, she married John Boychuk in Canora. They farmed in the Good Spirit Lake district until 1970 when they retired to Canora. She became a resident of the Canora Gateway Lodge in September of 2004. She was an active member of the Ss. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in Canora. Predeceased by parents, Gregory and Mary, her husband, John, two sons, Steve and Albert, a daughter, Sophie in infancy, three brothers, Phillip, Martin and Marion, and two sisters, Rose Tumak and Olga Kowalski, she is survived by three sons, Edward (Kathy) of Canora, Rudy (MaryAnn) of Norquay and Lorne (Irene) of Canora; two daughters, Albina (Carl) Pacholka of Yorkton and Elsie (Bob) Vewchar of Sundre, Alta.; a sister, jean Taylor of Toronto; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. Canora Courier, March 08, 2006 Page B6 PASLOSKI: Funeral service for Annastazya (Nettie) Theresa Pasloski, 92, of Rama, who died mar. 1 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre, was held Mar. 7 at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church in Rama with Rev. Antoni Degutis officiating. Burial was in St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Parish Cemetery, north of Rama, with Leson’s Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born on Apr. 15, 1913, in the Dobrowody District to Joseph and Anna (Diakow) Bugiera, she attended Dobrowody School. In 1934, she married Walter Pasloski. They built their home two years later in the Rama district where they farmed. In March of 1980, they moved to Rama and a month later, Walter died. She was active in the church. Predeceased by her parents, Walter and Anna, her husband, Walter, two brothers, John and Edward, two sisters, Caroline Balawyder and Magda in infancy, and a grandson, Barry Pasloski, she is survived by four sons, Leonard (Vivian) of Rama, Richard (Marj) of Red Lake, Ont., Thomas (Rose) of Yorkton and Jerry (Sonja) of Saskatoon; three daughters, Elaine Olson of Rama, Betty (Al) Wasylenka of Christopher Lake, Sask., and Jeanette (Glen) Rusnak of Edmonton; three sisters, Katie Miechkota of Winnipeg, Antonia Pasloski of Surrey, and Mary Macala of Invermay, 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. |
