on January 3, 1912, in the Amsterdam district to Peter and Rose (Blaz)
Dutchak, she attended Gogol School. On October 22, 1932, she married Steve
Baron in Canora. They farmed in the Amsterdam area until 1955 and then moved
to Canora. She was active in the United Church and UCWL. She enjoyed
travelling, especially to Disney Land. Predeceased by her parents, Peter and Rose, her husband, Steve, four brothers, Mike, Sam, Frank and Bill Dutchak, a sister, Mary Kowtzen, she is survived by a daughter, Virginia Loster of Canora, and two sisters, Olga Rock of Canora and Leona Phillips of Brandon, and one grandchild. Funeral
service for Jan (John) Gulewicz, 82, of Preeceville, and formerly of Hazel
Dell, who died Aug. 20 at Preeceville Hospital, was held Aug. 24 at St.
Patrick's Roman Catholic Church in Sturgis with Rev. Antoni Degutis
officiating. Burial was in St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Cemetery in Rama with
Preeceville Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born
on Apr. 27, 1924, in Molodeczno, Poland, he received his high school education
in Molodeczno and an automotive mechanic certificate by correspondence. He
served with the Polish Army and then worked as a caretaker for the London
Academy of Music. He married Marcelina Nurkowski in St. Nets, England, on
Oct. 23, 1947. He farmed in the Rama area from 1950 to 1960. He worked as a
mechanic for Reliance Garage in Preeceville and was then the owner/operator of
Corner Service in Hazel Dell from 1961 to 1978. He was a member of the Royal
Canadian Legion. Predeceased by his parents, Alexander and Julia, two sisters, Tina and Theresa, a granddaughter, Christina, and a grandson, Lindsey, he is survived by his wife, Marcelina; two sons, Richard of Maple Creek and Edward of Leduc, Alta.; two daughters, Irene Gluckie of Edmonton and Veronica (Joe) Novakowski of Grande Prairie, Alta.; and two grandchildren. Funeral
service for Christine (Molly) Munz, 80, of Canora, who died August 29 at
Canora Hospital, was held September 2 at Leson's Funeral Home with Marion
Naduriak officiating. Burial was in the Canora Cemetery with Leson's Funeral
Home in care of arrangements. Born
on March 31, 1926, in the Norquay district to Archie and Gertie (Griffiths)
McDougall, she married Fred Munz on May 9, 1946, at the Kamsack United Church.
She worked in a library and was a waitress at the Lunn Hotel. Predeceased by her parents, Archie and Gertie, her husband, Fred, and a sister, Jean Koch, she is survived by a son, Randy (Merylin) Munz of Leduc, Alta.; two daughters, Lenora (Peter) Browne of Vancouver and Carol (Peter) Michielin of Victoria; two sisters, Alice (Russel) Hubic of Norquay and Isabelle Koch of Yorkton; five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Robinson and family Canora Courier, September 13, 2006 Page 15 DORIS WOLKOWSKI: Funeral services for Doris Wolkowski, 82, of Canora, who died Sept. 2 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre, was held Sept. 7 at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Canora with Rev. Antoni Degutis officiating. Burial was at the Canora Cemetery with E. Andrychuk Funeral Home of Kamsack in care of arrangements. Born May 18, 1924 in the Fork River district of Manitoba to Peter and Anne (nee Cornick) Spikaluk, she was educated at Fork River School. After school, she worked in a kitchen in Neepawa, then in a restaurant in Flin Flon, Man. On Apr. 22, 1944, she married Steve Wolkowski. The couple moved to the Tiny district. She worked at the Co-op restaurant in Canora. She was a coordinator for the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation, a volunteer canvasser with the Cancer society, was a member of 4-H clubs, IODE, St. Joseph's church, the Keen Age Centre and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and for palliative care. She served as a director of the Keen Age Centre, was a member of the Canora recreation board and was a member of the horticultural societies in Sheho, Canora and Hyas. She was the coordinator for the world's largest quilt that was to make it into the Guinness book of world records. Predeceased by her parents, her husband, two sisters, Mary Broschuk and Kay Derhak, and three brothers, Paul, Joe and Bill Spikaluk, she is survived by one son, Stan (Donna) of Yorkton; two daughters, Delores (Orval) Beaudin of St. Eustache, Man., and Paulette Wolkowski of Peirceland; five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. ROURKE: Funeral service for William James
Rourke, 83, of Canora, who died August 29 at Canora Hospital, was held Sept. 9
at St. George's Anglican Church with Laura Dahl officiating. Burial will take
place in The Pas at a later date. Born
on September 13, 1922, in Pelly to James and Alice (Grindel) Rourke, he
attended school in Pelly. He married Rosalie Smith in Pelly on August 31,
1947. Predeceased by his parents James and Alice, and his wife, Rosalie, he is survived by a daughter, Doreen (Bill) Fry of Canora; two brothers. Robert of Toronto and Doug (Emma) of Lethbridge; four sisters, Kathy (Ed) Fissel of Pelly, Beverly (Bert) Powalski of Winnipeg, Eileen Achtemichuk of Kamsack and Joan (Ken Crosswell) Hudema of Red Deer; two grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. DUTCHAK: Funeral
service for Metro Dutchak, 93, of Canora, who died September 3 at Canora
Hospital, was held September 7 at SS. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church
in Canora with Rev. Joakim Rac officiating. Burial was in the Canora Cemetery
with Leson's Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born on July 7, 1913, on the family farm in the Tadmore district to Harry and Paraska (Olynyk) Dutchak, he attended Norquay, Crooked Hill, Gogal and Crystal Lakes schools. He continued his education through correspondence. On Nov. 4, 1940, he married Nellie Guspodaryk at the Antonivka Ukrainian Catholic Church. They lived on the family farm for a short period and then moved to Tadmore. He served in the Canadian Army for four years during the Second World War. When he was discharged, he moved his family to Canora where he began a long-time employment with the Saskatchewan Co-operative Creamers (which later became the Dairy Producers' Co-op). After taking courses in dairy science at the University of Saskatchewan, he became a butter-maker. He worked in Canora for 31 years. He worked in Preeceville until he retired in 1979. He served 15 years as secretary of the Teamster's Union. He was secretary of SS. Peter and Paul parish, a director for two years, and an elder for 21 years. He was secretary of the Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood for 10 years. In July of 2004, his work was rewarded when he was inducted into the Knights of St. Volodymyr in Winnipeg. Predeceased by his parents, Harry and Paraska, a brother, John, and two sisters, Annie in infancy and Tennie Shasko, he is survived by his wife, Nellie; a son, Herman (Pamela) of 100 Mile House, B.C.; a daughter, Linda (Eric) Pye of Canora; five grandchildren, and four great- grandchildren. |
