Accident victim remembered

On Easter Sunday, Apr. 16, bulletins at Grace United Church (Sturgis) and at Trinity United Church (Preeceville) were given in memory of Brent Pidgurski by his family- father and mother Bernard and Kathleen Pidgurski of Buchanan, brother Kevin (Nicole) and niece Cassidy of Regina, and sister Katherine of Buchanan. Rev. Miles Russell pointed out in the bulletins that, "Brent was born on Oct. 25, 1972 and died Mar. 7, 2006. Brent was the oldest of three children born to his parents Bernard and Kathleen Pidgurski. He grew up on the farm southwest of Prceeceville. Brent attended the Buchanan School as well as some university, receiving many awards along the way. Brent's great desire was to farm and so he did with his family, taking over more and more responsibility for the farm. Brent was a quick learner and used his talents to benefit the farm and bless his family and friends. Brent also worked at the Sturgis Auction Mart making even more friends throughout the wider community. Brent enjoyed many things: the cattle on the farm, rebuilding antique tractors with his dad, music, going to movies, reading, working on computers, going to dances, and having fun with his friends. Today we join with Brent's family in honouring his life during this Easter service and sharing with them our Easter faith."

Funeral service for Stenen area resident

Funeral service for Frank Andrew Holmes, 80, who passed away at Preeceville Hospital on Wednesday, Mar. 1, was held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 4 at the chapel of Preeceville Funeral Home with Archdeacon Daniel Hughes of the Anglican Church of Canada officiating. (Rev. Hughes is the minister of the Anglican Parish of Lintlaw/Endeavour.)

Organist Debbie Blender of Sturgis led the congregation in the singing of hymns Abide with Me and Amazing Grace. Reading of scriptures was shared by Pastor Carlyle Johnson of St. John-North Prairie Lutheran Church (Preeceville) and Charles Irish, one of Frank's former Grade 4 students from British Columbia. Special music was provided by the Woodland Chorus: Jack Jaques and Ray Scarth and Al Lowe of Preeceville.

The family tribute was delivered by Frank's son Barry Holmes of Vancouver. The tribute took the form of the "last letter" dated Feb. 15, 2006, that Barry wrote to his father. In the letter Barry acknowledged the significant role that his father played in the lives of his four children, daughter Pam and sons Neil, Ted, and himself.

The letter gave Barry the opportunity to share some of his favourite memories of his father. Referring to the goodnature, strength of character, strong faith, and positivity/optimism of his father, he said, "Dad, you are the cornerstone in my foundation. My biggest self-revelation came with the understanding that the meaning of life is 'life' itself: giving life, nurturing life, and protecting life. So 'life' is good, and 'life' is right, and 'life' is the light. You have given life and promoted life, and so, your legacy will live on forever... and thereby, dad, you will live forever."

Interment took place at the Preeceville Community Cemetery. Pallbearers were Frank's three sons, Neil, Barry, and Ted from B.C., Stella's son Kevin Wilgosh of Preeceville and sons-in-law John Kowal of Preeceville and Murdoch MacFarlane of Saskatoon. Following the interment, family and friends were invited to a luncheon and fellowship in the lower reception area of the Preeceville Funeral Home. The lunch was prepared and served by the women of the Anglican Parish of Endeavour.

After a career as educator, school principal and teacher in the B.C. educational system, Frank retired to Sechelt, B.C. Being adventurous in spirit, Frank moved to Saskatchewan in 1998 to take up residence north of Stenen on an acreage that included the farm residence and buildings of Peter and Anne Mudrewich, who retired to Yorkton. Enjoying the outdoors and being an avid gardener motivated Frank to use his acreage to grow the organic crops of seabuckthorn and echinacea. When Frank married Stella Wilgosh of Preeceville, both lived on the acreage during the spring, summer, and fall months, tending the crops and growing a vegetable and flower garden. For the winter months, they returned to Stella's residence in Preeceville. Experiencing health problems in 2005, Frank spent months in the Preeceville Hospital battling cancer, which he finally conquered. His remission was short-lived and he was back in hospital, where he died peacefully with his wife Stella and daughter Pam at his bedside.

In loving memory of our dear wife, mother and baba, Rose Kardynal, who passed away on May 19, 2004.

The moment that you died

Our hearts were split in two,

The one side filled with memories,

The other died with you.

We often lay awake at night

When the world is fast asleep,

And take a walk down memory lane

With tears upon our cheeks.

Within our hearts we always keep

A special place for you,

And try our best to live

As you would want us to.

As we loved you, so we miss you.

In our memory you are near

Loved, remembered, longed for always

With the passing of each year.

--Lovingly remembered by husband Steve, children Lisa (Grant), Carla (Brent), Shelly (Cork), Patrick (Bev), Randy and your 9 grandchildren
