Canora Courier, July 19, 2006 Page 11 HOMICH: Nicholas Homich, 83, of West Bank, B.C., and formerly of the Rama area, died May 2 in West Bank. Cremation arrangements were made by Hanson's Arbor Funeral Home. Born on July 3, 1922, in Suliczewo, Poland, his family immigrated to Canada in 1929, settling in the Gorlitz area. Soon afterwards, they moved to the Rama district where he grew up. During the Second World War, he joined the Regina Rifles, training in Debert, N.S., before heading to England. He was a member of the force who landed on Juno Beach on D-Day in 1944. He served in France, Holland and Germany. After the war, he attended university in Winnipeg and then worked in Fort Frances, Ont., for several years. He lived in Los Angeles for 15 years before moving back to Canada in 1976, settling in Kelowna He and his wife, Gail, operated an income tax preparation business. He retired to West Bank. He was a long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Predeceased by his mother in 1976, his father in 1996 and a brother in 1924, he is survived by his wife, Gail; two sons, Lance (Jacoline) Homych of Gabriola, B.C., and Eric (Lesley) Homich of Toronto; a daughter, Karen Homich (Bert Gagne) of Fort Frances; and two sisters, Vicky (Adolph) Wolkowski of Rama and Anne (Florian) Slugoski of Wadena Canora Courier, July 19, 2006 Page 11 SCHULTZ: Funeral service for Edeletraud (Edna) Schultz, 76, of Kuroki, who died June 6, was held June 10 at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Wadena with Rev. Pius Schroh and Rev. Dario Bebillo officiating. Burial was in St. Helena's Cemetery, Kuroki. Born on July 17, 1929, in Wadena to Joseph and Maria Bittner, she grew up south of Kuroki, attending Sasman and Kuroki schools. On Oct. 24, 1949, she married Paul Schultz. For the first few years, they lived with his parents and then they bought their own farming operation. For a while, she worked as a waitress at the Western Hotel in Foam Lake.
