Canora Courier, June 21, 2006 Page 10 ERICKSON: Funeral service for Owen Erickson, 80, of Lintlaw, who died May 2, was held May 6 at the Lintlaw Recreation Centre with Mel Keeble officiating. Burial was in the Lintlaw Cemetery with Tompkins Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born on May 12, 1925, in Ratcliffe to Charlie and Mary Erickson, he married Yvonne Guieheteau and they farmed south of Lintlaw. He is survived by his wife, Yvonne; a son, Les (Heather); a brother, Morris of Claresholm; a sister, Marcella (Charlie) Whitbread of Flin Flon two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Funeral service for Gustave Alexander Nystedt, 95, of Norquay, who died
June 13 at the Norquay Health Centre, was held June 17 at the Norquay Covenant
Church with Pastor Arden Gustafson officiating. Burial was in the Norquay
Community Cemetery, north of Norquay, with Leson's Funeral Home in care of
arrangements. Born
on Aug. 2, 1910, in Norrbyn, Sweden, to Axel and Hannah (Erickson) Nystedt,
his family immigrated to Canada shortly after his birth. 'They settled in the
Norquay district and he attended Fort Pelly School. He married Anna Theresa
Norberg on Nov. 17, 1937, in the Norquay district. They took over his father's
farm and bought another quarter section along the Assiniboine River from the
Hudson Bay Trading Company. As well as farming, he did carpentry work and made
many pieces of furniture from benches to signs and tables. He was active in
many organizations such as the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, the Coop, 4-H, the
Yorkton Thresherman's Museum, the Pelly Museum and the Hudson Bay Route
Association. Predeceased
by his parents, Axel and Hannah, a son, Axel, a brother, Harry, and a
grandson, Douglas Nystedt, he is survived by his wife, Anna; two sons, Dennis
(Joan) of Brandon and Vernon of Brandon; six grandchildren, and two

Funeral service for Paul Krywy, 75, of Canora, who died June 12 at
Canora Hospital, was held June 16 at Leson's Funeral Home with Rev. Marg
Janick-Grayston officiating. Burial was in the Canora Cemetery with Leson's
Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born on Jan. 15, 1931, in the Danbury
district to Anton and Annie (Picklyk) Krywy, he attended Glen Elder and
Sturgis Composite High schools. He worked on the farm and worked at a lumber
mill in Grande Prairie, Alta.. He also worked for a lumber mill operated by
his father and Nick Shostal. On July 18, 1958, he married Katie Horhut at St.
Andrew's United Church in Canora and they farmed in the Danbury district. In
the fall of 2005, they retired to Canora. Predeceased by his parents, Anton
and Annie, and three brothers, Steve, and Mike and Bill in infancy, he is
survived by his wife, Katie; five sons, Don (Michelle Cox) of Danbury, Anthony
of Edmonton, Vernon of Camrose, Lyndon of Danbury, and Sheldon (Kathy
Kalynchuk) of Stenen; two daughters, Paulette (Doug) Elian of Saskatoon and
Debbie (Jerome) Richard of Saskatoon; three sisters, Mary (Bill) Hrywkiw of
Edmonton, Elizabeth Krywy of Edmonton and Pauline (Ed) Bulk of Hyas, and 11

A memorial service for John Heska, 86, and his wife, Marie, 78, of
Mount Vernon, Washington, will be held at Leson's Funeral Home on June 30, 2
p.m., with members of the Jehovah's Witnesses officiating. Burial of the
cremated remains will be in the Canora Cemetery with Leson's Funeral Home in
care of arrangements. John died on Nov. 23 at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount
Vernon and Marie died on Apr. 19 in Sedro Wooly, Washington. John was born on
Jan. 16, 1920 in the Gorlitz district to John and Anna Heska. He attended
school in the Gorlitz district and completed high school in Yorkton. After
graduating from teachers' college, he began a teaching career. Marie was born
on Oct. 11, 1927, in Ukraine to Sergie and Clara (Serduk) Fedorchuk and came
to Canada with her parents at an early age. They settled in the Norquay
district and she attended Lake Helen Public School and Hyas High School. After
attending secretarial college in Winnipeg, she worked at a doctor's clinic in
Canora. The couple was married in Yorkton in 1949 and they moved to B.C.,
where he continued to teach. After a few years, he gave up his teaching
career to pursue a new venture. They began operation of Executive Limousine
Service in Hollywood, Calif., which they ran from 1961 to 1979, when they
retired to Mount Vernon. Their limousine service consisted of Cadillacs and
Rolls Royce limousines and catered to many prominent people including Elvis,
the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Tom Jones, President Richard Nixon, Gary
Grant, Liz Taylor and Richard Burton. They are survived by Marie's brother, Al
(Vicky) Fedorchuk of Hyas. Canora Courier, June 21, 2006 Page B6 SUSHELNITSKY: John Sushelnitsky of Canora, Sask. passed away peacefully at the Canora Gateway Lodge on June 9, 2006 at the age of 92 years. John was born on February 22, 1914 on the family farm in the Canora district to Michael and Rose (nee Belanchuk) Sushelnitsky. He grew up in the Canora area and left home with his wife Connie (nee Melnychuk) in 1941 to work in the gold mines near Geraldton, Ont., where their son Johnny was born in 1943. The family moved to Boissevain, Man. in 1946 where John took over a gas distribution business. Over the years he owned North Star, General Motors and Mosey Ferguson dealerships. He was very well respected for his business dealings and upon retirement he and Connie moved to Kelowna, B.C. Connie passed away in 1990 and in 1993, John returned to his hometown of Canora where she was buried. John had a brother and three sisters living there. After an unfortunate fall in his basement in 2003, John moved into the full cared Gateway Lodge nursing home in Canora. John was very helpful to all members of the Sushelnitsky and Melnychuk families. He was president of the Orthodox church in Kelowna and was a faithful member of the church in Brandon, Kelowna and Canora. His quiet and understanding manner was respected by all those who knew him. He leaves his family with many warm memories of a life well lived. John is survived by his son John (Rosemary) Sushelnitsky of Portage La Prairie, Man.; his brother Nick Sushelnitsky of Canora, Sask.; his sister, Ethel Strocen and Victoria Bahniuk, both of Canora, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife Connie (nee Melnychuk) and his parents, Michael and Rose (nee Belanchuk) Sushelnitsky. The memorial service was held on Monday, June 19, 2006 from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, Canora, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Fr. Peter Wasylenko officiating. Interment took place m the Canora Cemetery. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make a donation to a charity of their choice as tokens of remembrance.
