Canora Courier, June 28, 2006 Page 2 BARAN: Funeral service for Alexander Baran, 71, of Lintlaw, who died June 17 at Kelvington Hospital, was held June 21 at the Lintlaw Recreation Centre with Rev. Jennifer Irving officiating. Burial was in the Lintlaw Cemetery with Preeceville Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born on Apr. 7, 1935, in the Lintlaw district to Paul and Helen Baran, he attended Woodstone School. He worked in construction in Regina, Yorkton and Saskatoon and in British Columbia. When his parents retired, he took over the family farm, but continued to do carpentry. He married Sharon Riddoch on Feb. 7, 1980, at the United Church in Lintlaw. In 1986, they sold the farm and moved to Lintlaw, where he did carpentry on a full-time basis. He retired in 2002. Predeceased by his parents, Paul and Helen, and five brothers, Philip, Mike, Walter, Harry and Pete, he is survived by his wife, Sharon; a daughter, Amanda (Shawn) of Saskatoon; a brother, John of Calgary; and a sister, Julia Madarash of Lintlaw. Funeral service for Katie Andrusiak, 93, of Yorkton, and formerly of the
Stornoway and Mazeppa/Donwell districts, who died May 15 at Yorkton Regional
Health Centre, was held May 22 at Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox
Church in Yorkton with Rev. Roman Kocur officiating. Burial was at Yorkton
Memorial Gardens with Bailey's Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born
Aug. 14, 1912 in the Stornoway district to John and Mary (nee Babiuk)
Todosichuk, she attended McGillivray School. On July 25, 1929, she married
Metro Andrusiak and the couple farmed in the Mazeppa/Donwell district until
1957 when they moved to Yorkton. Predeceased
by her husband in 1989, her parents, six brothers, Bill, Fred, Peter and Mike
and Stefan and Michael in infancy; two sisters, Anne Hutsul and Mary Bodnaryk,
she is survived by two daughters, Gloria (Dan) Filipchuk and Florence (Steve)
Slywka, both of Yorkton; one sister, Alice Koroluk of Kamsack; three
grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Canora
Courier, June 28, 2006 Page 2 KRUKOFF: Funeral service for Helen Krukoff, 86, of Canora, who died June 19 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre, was held June 21 at Leson's Funeral Home with members of the Canora Doukhobor Society officiating. Burial was in the Canora Cemetery with Leson's Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Born on Feb. 5, 1920, in the Buchanan district to Wasyl and Annie (Harelkin) Popoff, she attended Tiny School. She married George Krukoff on Feb. 2, 1952, in Canora They purchased their own farm land near Good Spirit Lake and farmed until 1976, when they retired to Canora. She was often a winner in the tying and stocking competition at Yorkton's Thresherman's Day. A memorial service for John Heska, 86, and his wife, Marie, 78, of Mount Vernon, Washington, will be held at Leson's Funeral Home on June 30 with members of the Jehovah Witnesses officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will be in the Canora Cemetery with Leson's Funeral Home in care of arrangements. John died on Nov. 23 at Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon and Marie died on Apr. 19 in Sedro Woolley, Washington. John was born on Jan. 16, 1920 in the Gorlitz district to John and Anna Heska. He attended school in the Gorlitz district and completed high school in Yorkton. After graduating from a teachers' college, he began a teaching career. Marie was born on Oct. 11, 1927, in Ukraine to Sergie and Clara (Serduk) Fedorchuk and came to Canada with her parents at an early age. They settled in the Hyas district and she attended Lake Helen Public School and Hyas High School. After attending a secretarial college in Winnipeg, she worked at a doctor's clinic in Canora. The couple were married in Yorkton in 1949 and they moved to B.C., where he continued to teach. After a few years, he gave up his teaching career to pursue a new venture. They began operation of Executive Limousine Service in Hollywood, Calif., which they ran from 1961 to 1979, when they retired to Mount Vernon. Their limousine service consisted of Cadillacs and Rolls Royce limousines and catered to many prominent people including Elvis, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Tom Jones, President Richard Nixon, Cary Grant, Liz Taylor, Richard Burton, Gregory Peck, Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier. John was predeceased by his parents, John and Anna; six brothers, Wilfred, Bill, Joe, Nick, Mike and Peter; and two sisters, Marie Sklaruk and Lena Nahirney. Marie was predeceased by her parents, Sergie and Clara, and a brother, Walter. They are survived by Marie's brother, At (Vicky) Fedorchuk of Hyas. |
