In 1943 Peter married Ann Petsul and they continued to farm. In the earlier years, to help supplement farming, Peter worked as a Rural Telephone Linesman. Later he took on the position of caretaker at the Canora Composite High School. Through correspondence Peter acquired his 4th Class Steam Engineer certificate. In order to better himself to work with steam boilers, Peter took a position at Simpson Timber in Hudson Bay, Sask.
