Selma (Mikkonen) Wilford, age 88 years, of Lynn Lake, MB and originally of Invermay, died on Saturday, March 3.

Lydia (Lil) Shordee (Lylyk) was born on September 11, 1925 in the Arran district of Saskatchewan, a daughter of Michael and Anastasia (nee Prokopchuk) Lylyk. She completed grades 1-12 at Arran. Lydia attended Normal School from September 1942 to February 1944 in Regina and from July 1946 to September 1946 in Saskatoon. She taught school from January 1944 until June 1952 in the Kamsack and Canora School Divisions.

Lydia married William Shordee of Stornoway, Sask on August 6, 1949 at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton. Lydia was employed as a secretary for the Macleod's Store chain in Canora for 18 years from 1965 to 1983.

Reading books and watching movies were Lydia's favourite pastimes. She enjoyed crocheting, tending to her flowers and gardening. Lydia was known for cooking large meals and baking many different squares and dainties. She enjoyed visiting others and playing with her grandchildren and showed a great amount of patience.

Lydia passed away on Friday, February 16, 2007 at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina with her sons by her side. She leaves to celebrate her life, her sons Ron (Delores) of Fort Qu'Appelle and Ken (Laura) of Wynyard; six grandchildren, Janice, Ryan, Darren, Lisa, Danny and Kara; two great-grandchildren Daelin and Austin; her sisters Jean Lylyk and Willa Kostenuk of San Francisco, California; her brother Wally Lylyk of Edmonton, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.

GORCHA: Ann Gorcha beloved wife of the late Metro Gorcha passed away peacefully on March 1st, 2007 at the Canora Gateway Lodge where she resided for the past four years at the age of 88 years. Ann was born on February 14th, 1919 on the family homestead near Sheho, SK to Wasyl and Katrina (nee Cheredaryk) Gorecki. She was the fifth of nine children.

As a young girl she attended grade school at Oleksince School and thoroughly enjoyed learning. She was very sad when she was told that after grade eight, she would not be able to attend school any longer as she would have to help work at home. Ann married Metro Gorcha on April 26th, 1943 in Canora and they were married for sixty-two years when Metro passed away in December of 2005. Ann and Metro farmed near Canora before moving into town in 1964. This was when Ann began to work at the Canora Union Hospital and then later at the Canora Gateway Lodge where she retired in 1984. Ann loved people and had many friends. Everyone was welcome in her home and they were always treated to a scrumptious meal or fresh baking. Ann's sisters and brothers were a big part of tier life as they raised their families and gathered together for many visits. She was an active member of the Uspenska Church for many years.

Ann's women friends were all special to her and she enjoyed many cups of coffee sharing stories and photos of family. She enjoyed cooking and is especially remembered for her delicious borsch. As well, she enjoyed gardening, reading and most importantly spending time with her husband. Ann lived her life to serve others and her family always came first. She will be dearly loved and sincerely missed.

Ann is lovingly remembered by her son Raymond (Karen) of Saskatoon, SK; her three daughters: Evelyn (Andre) Decelles of Regina, SK, Delores Drozduik of Saskatoon, SK and Valerie (Wayne) Richards of Agassiz, B.C.; her two sisters: Beverly Pottle of Daysland, AB and Sophie Ternowetsky of Edmonton, AB; her six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Metro; her parents: Wasyl and Katrina; her brothers: Jack, Alex, Nick and James and her sisters: Mary Melnychuk and Doris Landego.

The Prayer Service was held on Thursday, March 8th, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Service was held on Friday, March 9th, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. both from the Chapel of Leson's Funeral Home, Canora with Rev. Fr. Peter Wasylenko officiating. Interment followed in the Canora Cemetery.

Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to the Canora Gateway Lodge Auxiliary as tokens of remembrance.

Arrangements were entrusted to LESON'S FUNERAL HOME, Canora (563- 5671).
