Metro Doroshenko of Buchanan passed away at the Canora Hospital on November
2nd, 2007 at the age of 88 years. Metro
was born on November 6th, 1918 in the Bellenden district to Wasyl and
Anastasia (nee: Bodnarchuk) Doroshenko. As a young boy, Metro attended
Bellenden School where he completed his Grade 8. He helped on the family farm
until 1941 when he was called to serve his country. His military training took
him to Regina, Winnipeg and Vancouver. After
completing his training, he went overseas and served with both the Canadian
and US Armies. Following his discharge from the Army in November of 1945,

more than ten years. After
his father passed away in 1955, Metro sold the farm and moved to Buchanan. He
became well known for helping people by doing many odd jobs. Some of the jobs
he enjoyed the most were carpentry work and repairing bicycles. All the
children in Buchanan would bring Metro their bicycles for him to fix. Metro's
greatest passion was the automobile. He loved to buy and drive new cars. He
was most proud of the Jeep his
father bought him in 1947. Even well into his eighties, Metro was still
thinking about buying a new car. Metro was an active member of the Ukrainian
Catholic Church in Buchanan for many years. He had a kind heart and will be
most remembered for always wanting to help people. He will be dearly missed by
all who knew him. Metro
