The Canora Courier 27 June 2007
Canora Courier, June 27, 2007 Page 12 – In memory of: KITCHEN:
In loving memory of John Kitchen, who passed away July 1, 2006 Today recalls a memory, Of a loved one laid to rest; And
those who think of him today, Are
those who loved him best. A
happy home we once enjoyed, How
sweet the memory still; But
death has left a loneliness, The world can never fill. The
flowers we lay upon his grave, May wither and decay; But
the love for one who lays beneath, Will
never go away. -Lovingly remembered and sadly missed by wife Nellie, children and grandchildren. Canora Courier, June 27, 2007 Page 13 Marvin
Mydonick of Kamloops, B.C. and formerly of Canora,
SK passed away peacefully at the Royal Inland Hospital, Kamloops, B.C. on June
13th, 2007 at the age of 60 years. Marvin
was born in Canora, SK on May 6th, 1947 to Walter and Mary (nee Mackisey)
Mydonick. As a young man, Marvin attended school in Mohyla and then at the
Canora Composite High School. Following his schooling, Marvin then moved to
Winnipeg, MB where he worked in a Foundry for several years. Marvin relocated
to Campbell River, B.C. where he worked as a Tree Faller. Marvin
always wanted to enter the hotel business and made a move to Vancouver, B.C.
in 1976 where he purchased his first hotel, The Marble Arch. It was there that
he met Gail Clarkson who became the love of his life and they have been
together ever since. They continued to run the Marble Arch until 1981 when
Marvin was involved in a motor vehicle accident that forced him to retire from
the business. But in 1991, Marvin and Gail moved to Surrey, B.C. and purchased
the Flamingo Hotel & Bar which they ran until they sold and relocated to
Kamloops, B.C. in 2003. They once again purchased a hotel and bar, the
Rayleigh Pub, Restaurant and Liquor Store where they worked until his passing. Marvin
had quite the sense of humour, always the jokester, but his magnetic
personality would have many people always enjoying his company. He was a big
man with a big heart, always lending a helping hand whenever he could. Marvin
truly loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, quading, snowmobiling
and many other outdoor activities. He also took pride in his ability to cook
in which he was exceptionally good at. He loved making sausage and would
always taste others so he could perfect his own. Marvin's zest for life was
truly inspirational and he will always be remembered for that. He will be
sincerely missed by all who knew and loved him. Marvin
is lovingly remembered by his spouse of 35 years, Gail Clarkson of Kamloops,
B.C.; his sons: Darin and Shane Mydonick of Kamloops, B.C.; his daughter
Shannen Mydonick of Chilliwack, B.C. and his step-daughter Tracey Clarkson

November 16th, 1940, John married Helen Sleeva of the Amsterdam district at
the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Canora. They made their home at
the farm in which they farmed for 59 years before retiring and moving into
Canora in 1999. While on the farm, John was well known in the neighbourhood as
a mechanic and welder that was always willing to help out when called upon.
John and Helen raised their own livestock and harvested a large garden every
year. Family, friends and neighbours will always remember home made lamb
shishliki and all the fresh vegetables you could eat. They welcomed one and
all for coffee and lunches at any time. John's health began to fail and he
