LYHKUN: Dolly Lyhkun of Kamsack & District Nursing Home passed away on August 25th, 2008 at the age of 96 years. Dolly was born on January 11th, 1912, the fifth child to John and Ewana (nee Snehore) Ewaniuk. John and Ewana immigrated to Canada from the Chernovatz, Ukraine and settled in the Sturgis district, SK. Dolly had eleven siblings. Dolly married William Lyhkun on November 24th, 1931 in Canora. They were blessed with five children, three sons and two daughters. William and Dolly worked together on the farm and as the children grew up and left home, they kept the farm going. Dolly was a tough lady who dug seneca roots, milked cows, fed chickens and turkeys, worked with horses and even used a chainsaw to cut down trees for firewood.

William passed away in 1975 and Dolly continued to live on the farm till 1983 and then moved to Canora. She was very independent, helped her neighbours and belonged to the Greek Catholic ladies group, helping make perogies. Dolly was also a member of the Keen Age Centre helping whenever she could. In 2003, Dolly moved to Eaglestone Lodge in Kamsack and this year was transferred to the Kamsack & District Nursing Home. Dolly's memory was very good and she could carry on an interesting conversation with anyone who came to visit. She will be dearly missed by all.

Dolly is survived by her two daughters: Victoria (Paul) Bilores of Roblin, MB and Violet (Lawrence) Toffan of Canora, SK; two sons: Eugene of Hinton, AB and Ormy (Marilyn) of Balmertown, ON; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband William, her son John in 2000 and her siblings except her sister Marie Dull in Vancouver, B.C. May she rest in peace. The Funeral Service was held on Thursday, August 28th, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Leson's Funeral Home, Canora with Rev. Fr. Joakim Rac officiating. Interment followed in the Canora Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to LESON'S FUNERAL HOME, Canora. (5635671).
