Broken Chain

"Little we knew that morning that God was going to call your name. In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone; for part of us went with you the day God called you home. You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide, and though we cannot see you, you are always by our side. Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one,
the chain will link again."

God Looked Around His Garden

God looked around His garden and found an empty place. He then looked down upon the earth and saw your tired face. He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest. God's garden must be beautiful He always takes the best. He saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb, so He closed your weary eyelids and whispered "Peace be thine". It broke our hearts to lose you but you didn't go alone, for part of us went with you the day God called you home.

SCHESCRUK: In loving memory of Stanley, husband, father and gido who passed away April 21, 2001.

The golden gates softly opened,

Seven years ago today;

With goodbyes left unspoken;

You quietly passed away.

God gave us strength to bear it,

And courage to stand the blow;

And what it meant to lose you,

No one will ever know.

-Forever remembered by wife Helen, children and grandchildren.

DANYLUK: In loving memory of our father and gido, Paul, who passed away April 28,1999.

We often think of days gone by,

When we were all together;

A shadow o'er our lives has cast,

Our loved one gone forever.

You're not forgotten, father, dear.

Or ever shall you be;

As long as life and memory last,

I shall remember thee.

-Always missed and sadly remembered by Leonard, Debbie, Nolan, Ryan, Brett, Richard, Jacob and Tiger.

ZIEBEN: It is with sorrow that the family of John Zeiben, age 83, announces his passing on March 28th, 2008.

John was born June 26th, 1924 in Buchanan, SK. He attended Devil's Lake School and the Kamsack Collegiate. John worked for many years as the caretaker at the Buchanan School and then later with the Saskatchewan Department of Highways until his retirement in 1983. John kept a warm and welcoming home in Buchanan for all of us who loved to visit there. For a person who never married or had his own children, he was very much a family man.

In 2006, John moved to Eaglestone Lodge in Kamsack and enjoyed living there a great deal. We would like to thank the staff of Eaglestone Lodge and the Kamsack Hospital for the care they gave to him.

He will be greatly missed by his nieces Elaine and Eleanora. His memory will be cherished by his grandnephews and nieces and cousins. John is survived by his grandniece Krystal (Kirk) Hodge and their daughter Anikka, grandniece Heather Nieminen and their father Gary Nieminen (Joyce); niece Elaine McGimpsey (Wayne) and their children Tasha (George) Sudsbear, Ian, and Sarah; niece Eleanora (Fred) Robertson and their children Max, Lucas, and Drew. John is also survived by his sister-in-law Florence Zeibin. John was predeceased by his parents John (1936) and Dora (2001); brother Fred (2007); niece Jeanette Nieminen (1987); and infant grandnephew Sean Robertson (1993).

A Memorial Service to be held in the summer of 2008.

Arrangements were entrusted to LESON'S FUNERAL HOME, Canora.

GERECHKA: Eugenia Gerechka of the Canora Gateway Lodge passed away at the Canora Hospital on April 14th, 2008 at the age of 95 years.

Eugenia was born on January 2nd, 1913 in Poroknik, Krakov, Western Ukraine to Stephan and Michalena (Charnetska) Lesiuk. She attended school in Zolochiv, in the district of Lviv, where she earned her teacher's certification in 1932. She gave private lessons until she was offered a full time teaching position in a primary school in Yarotnik. With the outbreak of the Second World War, she became displaced by the German occupation of Ukraine. Throughout six years of war, she managed to survive camp relocations, and other serious obstacles.

She immigrated to Canada in 1948, settling in Winnipeg, MB until her marriage to Ivan Gerechka. Eugenia and Ivan were married on September 3rd, 1950 in Kamsack, SK. Together they relocated to a farm near Mikado, SK where they raised their two sons, Roman and Andrew. They remained on the farm until 1973, when they moved to Canora. Once in Canora, Eugenia began working at the Canora Gateway Lodge as an Activities Director. On December 24th, 1981, Ivan passed. Eugenia continued working until she retired in 1991.

She was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary at Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church for many years. Eugenia was very proud of her Ukrainian heritage. Her main focus was always on her family, church, and friends. She was a superb cook, and prepared many different traditional dishes from the Ukraine.

She is lovingly remembered by her son Roman of Canora, SK, her son Andrew, daughter-in-law, Kathryn, and their two children, David and Anna Marie, all of Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA, and Roman's daughter, Tricia. Eugenia was fond of all her nieces and nephews, and her friends and associates within the Saskatchewan community. She was predeceased by her husband Ivan; her parents: Stephan and Michalena; her sisters: Ivana and Irena and her brothers: Julian, Volodymyr, Orest and Yaroslav.

The Prayer Service was held on Sunday, April 20th, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy was held on Monday, April 21st, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. both from Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Canora with Rev. Fr. Joakim Rac celebrant. Interment followed in the Canora Cemetery. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church as tokens of remembrance.

Arrangements were entrusted to LESON'S FUNERAL HOME, Canora. (563-5671).
