Canora Courier, January 23, 2008 Page 12 – In memoriam: SOOKOCHOFF:
In loving memory of my dear husband, Nick, who passed away January 27, 2006
and my dear son, Miles, who passed February 17, 2006. Our
family circle has been broken, Two
links from our chain are gone; But
though we've parted for a while, We
know one day we'll meet again. Within
our hearts we'll always keep, A special place for you; Try to do our best in life. Like you'd want us to. You
both gave us years of happiness
and joy, Then
with sorrow came tears; You
both left us with beautiful memories, That
we will cherish throughout the years. -Lovingly remembered by wife and mother, Laura, and your families. Canora Courier, January 23, 2008 Page 13 PELECHATY:
Helen Rose Pelechaty of Canora and formerly of the Buchanan district passed
away peacefully at the Canora Gateway Lodge on January 17th, 2008 at the age
of 92 years. Helen
was born on March 25th,
1915 on the family farm in the Buchanan District to Anton and Pauline (nee
Dymytrow) Sliva. She was the second child of five children. As a young girl
she helped out on the family farm and attended Olesha School near Buchanan.
Helen was united in marriage to Joseph Pelechaty in June of 1936 and,
together, they moved to Flin Flon, Manitoba where Joe worked in the mine. In
1942 they moved back to Saskatchewan and purchased farmland in the Buchanan
district. They
were blessed with four children: Albena, Frank, Ernie and Loraine. They
remained on the farm until 1972 when they moved to Canora to retire. Helen was
a loving and caring mother, baba, and good friend. She enjoyed the many visits
from family and friends, which was evident by the smile on her face and the
sparkle in her eye. Whether you were young or old, she would always have a
good conversation with you. She would always express concern about others
whether it was the farmers' crops, the poor weather for farming, who was
playing which sport, and whether they won or lost. She always asked about each
of the family members and was happy to tell you about the phone calls she
received from family that lived further away. Helen enjoyed gardening,
cooking, baking, and spending time with her family. Her
family always said she made the best perogies, soup, donuts, and cabbage
rolls. She was famous for her homemade root beer. She loved to cook for her
family and friends; you never left her home hungry. Helen was a faithful
member of St. Joseph's R.C. Church. She was a woman of strong faith and prayed
her rosary many times a day. Due to failing health, she became a resident of
Kamsack Eagle Stone Lodge in October, 2003 and in April of 2005, she moved to
the Canora Gateway Lodge till her passing. Helen
is lovingly remembered by her two sons: Frank (Grace) Pelechaty of Wetaskawin,
AB and Ernie (Darlene) Pelechaty of Canora, SK; her daughter: Lorraine Leddy
of Edmonton, AB; her two brothers: Steve (Francis) Sliva of Yorkton, SK and
Mike (Elsie) Sliva of Buchanan, SK; her 12 grandchildren and 15
great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents Anton and Pauline, her
husband Joseph, daughter Albena, sisters Caroline and Mary, and sons-in-law
Jay Leddy and Ed Toffan. The
Prayer Service was held on Sunday, January 20th, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral
Mass was celebrated on Monday, January 21st, 2008, both from St. Joseph's
Roman Catholic Church, Canora with Rev. Fr. Antoni Degutis, Celebrant. The
Rite of Committal followed in the Canora Cemetery. Those wishing to make
