DAWSON: It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Helga Lilja Dawson on Friday, December 12th, 2008, surrounded by her family.

Helga is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 49 years, Douglas of Saskatoon; son Keith (Maria) and grandchildren Anna-Lilja, Mackenzie, Parker and Frazer of Saskatoon, and son Russell (Melody) and grandchildren Alexandra and Samuel of Prince George, BC. She also is lovingly remembered by her brother Eric (Kay) Johannson; sister Margaret (Don) Ottmann; sistersin-law Lillian Johannson, Joyce Johannson and Helen Johannson; brother-in-law Harold Garrish; aunts Anna Helgason and Joanne Terrian, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Jonas & Lily Johannson, brothers Arnie, Elmer, Herbert, Chris, Dave and sisters Olaf and Johanna.

Helga was born on March 10, 1938, at the family farm in the Margo district where she spent her early years. She began her education at McKinley School and completed her education in Wadena when the family moved there. She then attended the College of Nursing at the University of Saskatchewan, and convocated in 1959. Helga and Doug were married that year and made their home in Canora where she nursed at the Canora Union Hospital. They moved to Hyas, on to Dauphin and eventually to Saskatoon in 1972. Throughout these years, Helga continued her nursing career as Matron at Norquay Hospital, and worked as a Nursing Unit Manager at Frank Eliason Centre and Parkridge Centre in Saskatoon for many years before retiring in 2002.

While she was devoted to her career, her family was the most important thing to her. Helga was truly a life-long companion of Doug's, and together they shared many happy times during summers at Crystal Lake. She was proud of her sons, welcomed her daughters-in-law and loved her grandchildren dearly. Helga was an excellent cook with many fine recipes and would not hesitate to prepare new dishes for her family. Gardening provided her with many hours of enjoyment, she had a beautiful yard and took pleasure in giving tours of it.

We would like to thank everyone at St. Paul's Hospital for the exceptional care that they provided for Mom. We are especially grateful to the nurses in the Intensive Care Unit for the kindness and compassion that they showed our family during this difficult time.

The Funeral Service was held on Thursday, December 18th, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home (east on 8th Street, turn right before railway crossing). Burial took place at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Family and friends may send email condolences from the website www.hillcrestmemorial.ca. Arrangements are entrusted to Jeffrey Sully, HILLCREST FUNERAL HOME 477-4400.

BIBLOW: Helen Biblow passed away peacefully, at the age of 92 years, early in the morning of December 13th with family present.

Helen was born on the farm south of Tiny, Sask on July 26, 1916. She was the 5th of seven children born to George and Dora (Terlesky) Dutchak. Helen took her education at Wysla School, and recollected that school started in April and ended at Christmas each year because the school couldn't be heated properly in the cold winter months. On November 19th, 1933, Helen married Peter Biblow at the Drobot Church. They bought a farm north of Buchanan where they lived for the next 37 years. While on the farm, they raised five children, George, Ivan, Elaine, Dave and Donna. Along with her husband Peter, Helen was involved in the organization and building of the St. John the Baptist, Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Buchanan. Helen was also a member of the Ukrainian Women's Association serving as president for several years. In 1970, they retired from the farm and moved to Yorkton.

After her 'retirement' to Yorkton, she ran a pizza restaurant and then cooked for a few years at the lunch counter in the Metropolitan. Helen was a great cook and everyone, whether family or friends, always enjoyed her meals and her baking. Helen loved a houseful of company and the visiting or card-playing that inevitably went along with it. In later years in Yorkton, Helen and Peter were part of a regular coffee group that met every morning at McDonalds. She was especially happy to have some of her children and their families come along so she could show them off. Helen's last home in Yorkton was at Independent Manor where she made many new friends and really enjoyed the social aspect that came with living there. Helen was also a very active member of the Holy Transfiguration Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Yorkton and continued her involvement with the Ukrainian Women's Association helping with all the church catering.

In 2005, she was honoured by this Association for 60 years of service. In 2006, Helen moved to Saskatoon -- first to a private care home and then to Stensrud Lodge. As with everyone who knew her, the staff at Stensrud greatly enjoyed her spirit and sense of humour, and were instrumental in helping make this her "home". She was also well beloved by Tigger, the resident cat, who got special treats whenever he visited her room.

Helen was predeceased by her parents, her husband Peter in 2002, her son Ivan, her sisters, Mary Leson and Anne Jurick; her brothers Nick, John, Bill and Alex Dutchak, and her son-in-law Vern Griffiths. Helen is survived by her children - son George (Christine) Biblow, daughter Elaine Griffiths, son Dave (Laurie) Biblow, daughter Donna Biblow (James MacLaren Hill), daughterin-law Heather McDougall; 12 grandchildren - Zane, Sheldon, Duane, Lyle, Suzanne, Shelly, Sharon, Shaun, Dean, Duane, Kara, Glenys; and 22 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of the donor's choice.

Prayers were held at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Yorkton, Sask. on Tuesday December 16th at 7:30 pm. Funeral Service was held Wednesday, December 17th at 9:30 am. Interment will take place immediately following the service. Arrangements entrusted to Leson Funeral Home, Canora, Saskatchewan. (563- 5671).
