Polly Ostoforoff passed away peacefully at the Canora Hospital on June 10th,
2008 at the age of 86 years. Polly
was born on November 21st, 1921, the eldest daughter of Wasyl and Helen (nee
Terichow) Abetkoff. Polly grew upon her parents farm near Devil's Lake School
which she attended. On November 4th. 1939, Polly was united in marriage to
Peter Ostoforoff and moved to his family farm. Over the years she helped with
various farming activities including field work such as cutting grain and
stoking the sheaves as well as growing a large garden, milking cows, making
butter and cottage cheese, raising chickens, sheep, geese, ducks and turkeys.
As the farm did not have electricity and running water until the 1960's she
had to cope with the extra tasks of preserving food by canning and drying and
carrying water by the pail full from a well. All these chores continued to be
a part of daily life on the farm with the eventual arrival of six children and
the extra work associated with raising a family. In
her humble and gentle way, Polly did all that had to be done with pride and
little complaint. Her family and their needs were always foremost in her life.
Visitors to the farm and later in town were always welcome and most were
treated to her famous tea and "small lunches" which often included a
piece of pie or cake. After moving to Canora in 1990, Polly continued to be
active with her garden and her handicrafts. Following her husband Peter's
passing in 2005, she reduced the size of her garden but continued to enjoy the
prospect of this year's garden until her passing. Polly leaves many memories
which will stay in the hearts of many forever. Polly
is lovingly remembered by her five sons: Jack (Louise) of Saskatoon, John
(Veronica) of Saskatoon, Walter (Fern) of Canora, Russell (Karen) of Saskatoon
and Larry (Brenda) of Canora; her daughter Nydia (Ron) Kosinski of Sherwood
Park, AB; nine grandchildren: Micheal (Sharon), Wayne (Cindy), Kevin, David,
Tim (Sheri), Andrew, Kyla (Trevor), Chelsy and Tyler; nine
great-grandchildren: Ashley, Sean, Nyssa, Dallas. Victoria. Hunter, Jaeda,
Gage and Ashtyn and her sister Dorothy Kalmakoff as well as numerous other
relatives. She was predeceased by her husband. Peter; her parents: Wasyl and
Helen and her sister Alice Padmoroff. The
Memorial Services were held on Monday. June 16th, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. from the
Chapel of Leson's Funeral Home. Canora with the Canora Doukhobor Society

Cemetery. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to
