Anne Derkatch of Canora passed away at the Canora Gateway Lodge on August
21st, 2009 at the age of 96 years. Anne
was born on April 7th, 1913 to Emil and Clara (nee Wrona) Pakosh in the Mikado
district. As a young girl she attended Franko School while helping on the
family farm. Upon completing her Grade 8, Anne remained on the farm to help
raise her younger brothers and sisters. On June 26th, 1937 Anne married Julian
Derkatch and they resided with his parents until 1940 when they purchased
their own land south of Verigin. Julian and Anne had two sons: Melvin born on
April 6th, 1941 and Leonard born on March 20th, 1945. Anne enjoyed cooking,
baking, gardening and crafts. She had a special talent working with her hands
and enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting. Anne loved to visit with family
and friends and especially loved babysitting and visiting with her
grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Anne
was predeceased by her parents Emil and Clara Pakosh, her husband Julian on
October 8th, 2004, her brothers: John in infancy, Emil, Bill, Edward, Peter
and Julius, and her sisters: Sophie Andrews, Julia Korol, and Olga Ortynsky.
She is survived by her two sons: Melvin Gordon and Leonard (Ellen) Derkatch;
her brother Danny (Yolande) Pakosh; her two sisters: Rose Yale and Margie
(Jim) Hamilton; her four grandchildren: Sean (Lori) Kristjansson, Breen
(Becky) Kristjansson, Sherrdean (Bob) Turley and Sheldon (Lisa) Derkatch; her
three great-granddaughters: Kadin Kristjannsson, Kaia Kristjansson and Merrick
Anne Derkatch and her great-grandson Brendan Walker. The Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, August 25th, 2009 from the Chapel of Leson's Funeral Home, Canora with Marion Naduriak officiating. Interment followed at the Sliding Hills Christian Cemetery, Mazeppa. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan as tokens of remembrance. Arrangements were entrusted to LESON'S FUNERAL HOME, Canora.
