LYHKUN: Peacefully on Wednesday, May 27, 2009, with his family by his side, Ormy Edward Lyhkun, passed away at the age of 7l years. His pain has ended, and ours begins as we move on without him in our daily lives.

Ormy was born on September 3, 1937 to Dolly (Ewaniuk) and William Lyhkun, at his family homestead near Canora, SK where he completed his education and helped on the farm. He grew up learning the value of hard work which he carried into all areas throughout his life.

During his young adult life he moved to B.C. to experience new adventures. Through family members, he learned of the thriving job opportunities in Red Lake. He was employed with Campbell Red Lake Gold Mines (Placer Dome) for 42 years working as an underground Miner, Shift Boss and retired as a Hoistman. After his retirement he went back on contract work until he retired for good to pursue a new career in playing with his new grandson. Ormy was often teased that even though he was a miner, he was still a "stubble jumper" as he spent a good part of his summers back on the farm doing what he truly enjoyed.

Ormy met Marlene and they were married in 1959. Soon they were blessed with two children, a daughter Lynette and then a son Darren, whom they raised in the Red Lake area. Although Ormy and Marlene separated many years ago, they remained friends with her being his caregiver during his illness. As their children, this was a true gift to see them caring for each other during such adversity. Ormy was a quiet man, often known as a hardworking man. He loved to be busy, and no job was too hard. Ormy loved to fish, and last summer was "shown up" by his grandson, who caught 5 fish on his kiddie rod, while "Grandpa" got none. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, snow machining (which he enjoyed for the last time in March with his son), and most outdoor work. Many people and a certain horse enjoyed his scrumptious ginger snap cookies that he baked. He liked to cook making perogies, roasts, chilli and his special cider. Ormy had sharp sense of humor with a skill of making bad jokes seem funny. Whether people knew Ormy or not, many recognized him as the man who always walked the little Beagle dog along the highway, summer or winter. He contributed his extra time to helping around the church with odd jobs. Ormy enjoyed traveling, although he often said he did not do enough of it. His dream was to travel to Alaska, which he intended to do this summer. We know that he can now travel the world and see all that he wanted to see. He is survived by his wife Marlene, children Lynette (Mike) Durand of Red Lake ON, Darren (Came) Lyhkun of Creighton SK, and his grandson Braxten Durand. As well, he has 2 sisters, Victoria (Paul) Bilous of Roblin, MB, Violet (Lawrence) Toffan of Canora, SK, and a brother Eugene of Hinton, AB. He was predeceased by his mother Dolly (2008), father William (1975), and brother John (2000). He has many surviving cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A Funeral Mass was held at St Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church on Monday June 1st, 2009 at 11:00 am with Father Moses Nwosu officiating. Should friends desire, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society through HEROLD FUNERAL HOME LTD. "THE RED LAKE CHAPEL" P.O. BOX 237, RED LAKE, ON POV 2M0.

IN LOVING MEMORY OF EDMUND GENOWAY - JUNE 5TH (1926- 2006)

Remembering you is easy,

We do it every day;

But missing you is a heartache,

That never goes away.

We think of you in silence,

No eyes can see us weep;

Many silent tears are shed,

When others are asleep.

Our lives go on without you,

But nothing is the same;

We always hide the heartache,

When someone speaks your name.

Sad are the hearts that love you,

Silent are the tears that fall;

Living our lives without you,

Is the hardest part of all.

Love Elsie and family
