DAVIS: Don Davis of Yorkton, and formerly of Stenen, passed away on March 30th, 2009 at the Regina General Hospital, at the age of 69 years.

Donald (Don) Fred Davis was born at the Canora Union Hospital on December 7th, 1939 to Fred and Lena Davis (nee Karchie). Accompanied by his brother John, both joined the family circle that already included sister Juanita, born on November 1st, 1934. They lived in the Liverpool district on the Jarnigan farm until their move in 1948 two miles north to the homestead of Fred's parents, where John now resides. Don attended Liverpool School. Stenen Elementary School, and the Sturgis Composite High School, graduating from the SCHS in 1959.  He sought employment in Snow Lake, Manitoba as a miner with the Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Company from 1959 to 1961, where Nick Karchie, his mother's brother, was a mining instructor. Locating to Calgary in 1961 he worked for Heiland Exploration until 1967 on a seismic recording crew where he soon advanced to position of shooter handling all explosives-first in central Alberta and eventually in the North West Territories at Norman Wells and Fort Good Hope.

In 1967, he underwent surgery for a back fusion at Calgary's General Hospital, where he met Violet May Anderson, a Registered Nurse, whom he married on November 14th, 1969. From 1967 to 1974 he continued to work for Heiland Exploration now as a Party manager at Inuvik and Tuktoyyaktuk in the North West Territories and Old Crow in the Yukon. Family responsibilities prompted him to return to Calgary, where he purchased a new home and worked for the Co-operators from 1974 to 1984. Since then he had been self employed. His oldest son Troy Jeffery was born on January 31st, 1972 and Colin Andrew "surfaced the web" on October 30th, 1975. After Vi's death from ALS in 2002, he moved to Midale, Saskatchewan. where he purchased the home of his mother-in-law, Emmeline Anderson and where he cared for Emmeline who was in a Seniors' Housing Unit. After her death in 2003, he moved to Stenen, Saskatchewan where he purchased a house next to Wilson Memorial United Church. After his mother Lena died in 2004, he moved in 2005, into an apartment building at Yorkton, Saskatchewan where he met Edith Podovinikoff, who became his special friend and confidant.

For many years, Don became well known, respected, and appreciated at Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Alberta Trade Shows and Markets, where he promoted URAD (an excellent self-shining leather cream), beaded magnetic jewellery, cell phone boosters, and potato bakers, designed and made by Edith, who often accompanied and assisted him at those events. That Don's expertise, skills, and talents were in salesmanship cannot be doubted! Working for the Co- operators, he earned family trips throughout Canada for meeting sales objectives, He was also acknowledged with a framed photograph with a plaque that read. "Donald F. Davis - Alberta Regional Million dollar Club." No one can say that Don's life wasn't interesting and varied. He was a fan of football, baseball, curling and hockey, and like most Saskatchewanians living in Alberta - a vocal supporter of the Saskatchewan Rough Riders. He enjoyed music, card playing, travelling, eating out, socializing attending church, and the list could go on and on.

Some will remember Don for his quick wit, unforgettable humour, positive attitude, sense of fairness, and strong and enduring faith in an ever living, loving God. Others will say that he was honest, sincere, generous, industrious, and persevering. And then, there will be a few who will say that he was too frank and straightforward. Yet, to many he was a comic/comedian, a people person, an entertainer, and a joker/prankster. Above all, he was a unique conversationalist, story teller, and relater who had a penchant and flare for telling stories. and jokes. His sons Troy and Colin say that everywhere the family went their Dad met someone who knew him. Some human beings just exist. Not Don - he lived life fully, intensely, with enthusiasm, joy and love.

On March 9th he was taken by ambulance to Yorkton Health Centre and then on March 24th he was transferred to Regina General Hospital where he peacefully succumbed to pneumonia in S-ICU at 9:08 a.m. March 30th, with friend Edith and twin brother John at his side. Praise be to God for Don Davis. Through him all of us have been enriched and inspired in one way or another.

Predeceased by his wife Vi in 2002; father Fred in 1989; mother Lena in 2004; and a sister in infancy, he is survived by son Troy (Tanya) and their children Ethan, Jaedon, and Bethany of Edmonton; son Colin (Alithea) and daughters Mei-Lyn and Alena of Calgary; sister Juanita (Paul) Juneau of Saskatoon; twin brother John of Stenen; special friend Edith Podovinikoff of Yorkton; as well as numerous cousins and many, many friends.
