Tina Lapshinoff of Lloydminster, AB and formerly of Canora, passed away
suddenly at her home at Pioneer Lodge in Lloydminster on June 2, 2009 at the
age of 90 years. Tina
was born on June 19, 1918
on a farm 9 miles northeast of Canora Saskatchewan to Peter and Tany a
Negraeff. She attended school at Phoenix farm school and enjoyed a childhood
surrounded by 8 loving brothers and sisters. She met and married William
(Bill) Lapshinoff on November 19, 1949 and they both worked for a time in
Toronto and also Vancouver before settling to farm in the Pretty View School
District 12 miles north of Verigin Saskatchewan. They had two sons, Bill &
Lorne, and raised them on the farm enjoying great neighbours, friends and
relatives where she gathered many of her fondest memories. They moved to
Canora in 1973 at which time Tina went to work for a few years as a cook at
the Skylark Hotel in Canora before retiring. Her husband Bill passed away in
1993 and her dear family and friends in Canora stepped in to ease her sorrow
and loneliness. Tina never did retire from her passion for gardening which
came second only to her love of her family, extended family, neighbours and
friends. Her great joys were people, plants and cooking. She
loved her family very dearly and her pride just continued to grow with the
arrival of Grandchildren and then of great-grandchildren. She received great
joy in visits from brothers, sisters, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law as
well as all of her nieces and nephews and would immediately phone her sons to
excitedly ask "guess who visited me today?" She cherished all of her
memories from the gettogethers with relatives and friends for card games and
celebrations and beamed brightly when recounting all of their escapades,
adventures and wonderful moments from those times. She
enjoyed bingo and her bingo buddies and was a challenging opponent in Scrabble
and cards which she honed playing with her sister Nellie and others. Reading
and puzzles became her favourite pastimes later in life. Tina's passions for
cooking and baking will be remembered by many that sat at her table for home
cooked meals and traditional Russian dishes which were always followed with an
assortment of never ending desserts. Also remembered will be her repeated
offer of "there is more" or her insistence to "here, finish
this up". Family and guests alike could not visit without being fed some
of her wonderful creations. Tina eventually sold their home and moved into a
Senior's Housing duplex in Canora, then to the Eaglestone Lodge in Kamsack and
finally to the Pioneer Lodge in Lloydminster to be nearer to family. Tina
was predeceased by her husband Bill, her sisters Polly Zurloff, Mary Konkin,
Anne Zarin, Nellie Danchuk, Lillian Nisbet; her brother John Negraeff as well
as brothers in law and sisters in law. Left to cherish her love and memory are
her son's families of Bill & Elaine and Lorne & Pat; her grandchildren
Brad, Amber (Kelvin) & Kris; Great grandchildren Ocean, Savannah, Roman
& Memphis; her brothers Henry (Doris) Negraeff and Peter (Sylvia)
Negraeff; brother in law Cecil (Maxine) Lapshinoff; sister-in law Helen Eagan;
along with numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly. The Visitation was held on Friday, June 5th and the Funeral Service was held on Saturday, June 6th, both from the Chapel of Leson's Funeral Home, Canora with the Canora Doukhobor Society officiating. Interment followed at the Canora Cemetery. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to the Canora Doukhobor Society as tokens of remembrance. Arrangements were entrusted to LESON'S FUNERAL HOME, Canora. (563-5671). |
