day, memories are something nobody can steal. A death, a heartache, no one can
heal. Life goes on but it's not the same since you passed away. God bless you
till we meet again. - Sister Polly Rebalkin Canora Courier, August 12, 2009 Page 16 BAZANSKY,

mother's farm near Donwell on December 12th, 1921. Her father was Joseph

her own mother's poor health, Mary remained on the farm, almost a second
mother to her brothers. After they grew older, she was able to strike out on
her own, working saleswoman, first briefly in stores in Canora, and then, in
the late 1940s in Flin Flon. She met Stanley Demchinsky, another Canora-area
migrant, who had taken up a mining job in Flin Flon. They were married in
1950, moving across the border to the nearby town of Creighton, Sask. Over 40
years in Creighton, Mary and Stan raised four children. While raising her
family, Mary became owner of the Creighton Ready to Wear, a clothing store she
ran for more than a dozen years. When Stan retired, they decided to move back
to their hometown, Canora, where they lived until the last year. For most of
the past year they lived in the senior's facility in Kamsack. Mary
is survived by her four children -Bryan Demchinsky, Dee Lewis, Sharon Trubiak
and Sterling Demchinsky - six grand children - Amber Trubiak, Ebony Donaghy,
Shannon Zambon, Curtis Trubiak, Robert Trubiak and Mark Lewis, and by four
great grandchildren - Jehlin, Dryden, Jordan and Emily. Mary's husband, Stan

Jim Kopelchuk of Canora passed away at the Regina General Hospital on July
30th, 2009 at the age of 76 years. Jim
was born on February 25th,
1933 to Peter and Mary (nee Velde) Kopelchuk in the Canora District. He
attended West Wexford School in the Burgis district. Jim was born a farmer. He
devoted his life to it. For the first 39 years of his life he farmed alongside
his father and brothers Ed & Richard. Together they established PK
Herefords, selling purebred Horned Hereford cattle for over 50 years. Jim also
had a passion for truck driving saying that he missed his calling by not
becoming a trucker. He fulfilled that desire by doing many custom jobs hauling
cattle and grain. Jim was very content on the farm so when it was time for
bull sales he gladly sent his brothers out and he stayed home making sure
everything was well taken care of. Because of this Jim looked like he was
going to be a lifelong bachelor. Until one day his cousin Linda introduced Jim
to the love of his life Elaine Ahlers. Jim
and Elaine were married on October 21, 1972. Two years later they welcomed
their son Clint Peter into their family. Clint worked alongside his dad from
the moment he could walk. Jim enjoyed watching Clint grow & mature,
watching many hockey and ball games and taking in 4-H shows. Elaine tried to
make a tourist out of Jim by taking trips into the US. She always made sure to
include some ranch tours to keep her boys entertained and happy. Jim lost his
beloved Elaine after 27 years of marriage. However his sadness was eased when
Clint married and his two grand- daughters Codee and Jessee were welcomed into
the family. Jim enjoyed spending time with his girls cautiously watching every
move they made. Although Jim was a quiet man he enjoyed visiting with
neighbours and the many hours spent at coffee time with family. His quiet
presence will be missed by everyone who treasured him. Jim
was predeceased by his parents Peter and Mary, his wife Elaine, his brothers
Ed and Richard and his brother-in-law Don Gunning. His is survived by his son
Clint (Meridee) of Canora; his brother-in-law Ken (Denise) Ahlers of Airdrie,
AB; his two sister-in-laws: Marlene Gunning of Spokane, Washington and Joyce
Kopelchuk of Canora, SK and his two grandchildren Codee and lessee Kopelchuk
of Canora. A visitation was held on Monday, August 3rd and the Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, August 4th, both from the Chapel of Leson's Funeral Home, Canora with Marion Naduriak officiating. Interment followed at the Canora Cemetery. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to the Canora Hospital as tokens of remembrance. Ethel Matwychuk, our beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at
Idlewyld Manor on July 29, 2009, just a few days after her 101st birthday. Ethel
was born July 25, 1908 to
Hrynko and Ahaphia Worobec and attended West Scalet School. In 1938, she
married Maxim Matwychuk and they farmed south of Canora until 1948 when they
bought and tended a larger farm southeast of Stenen and raised their children.
Ethel was devoted to her family and enjoyed entertaining her relatives and
friends. Ethel also took great pleasure in growing a large fruit and vegetable
garden on the farm. In 1964, they sold their farm and retired back to Canora
where she still continued to grow a large garden. Maxim passed away in 1985
and in 1991 Ethel moved east to join her children and grandchildren in
Hamilton, Ontario. She settled into her new home at Villa Kiev Apartments
which had many residents of Ukrainian heritage. Even in her 80's Ethel, along
with some of her newly made friends, kept a small vegetable garden at Villa
Kiev which reminded her of days back in Canora which she loved so much.
Eventually, Ethel required some living assistance and moved into Idlewyld
Manor in 2000. Ethel will be deeply missed by her son Gerald (Penny), grandchildren Paul, Kate and her daughter Emily (Bob Hood), grandchildren Ken (Kym), Gord and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, husband, sisters, Cassie Terleski, Annie Werboweski, Victoria Koptie, Mary Klutz, Emily Robbins and brothers John and Steve. Burial has taken place at Woodland Cemetery in Hamilton, Ontario on July 31, 2009.
