DANYLUK: In loving memory of our dad and gido, Paul, who passed away April 28,1999.

This day is remembered,

And quietly kept;

No words are needed,

We shall never forget.

For those we love don't go away,

They walk beside us everyday;

Unseen and unheard, but always near,

So loved, so missed and so very dear.

-Always missed and sadly remembered by Debbie, Leonard, Nolan, Ryan, Brett, Richard, Jacob and Tiger.

DUTKA: It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Teenie Dutka, loving wife of Alex Dutka and mother of Sylvia Lewchuk at Aspen Bluffs Villa in Yorkton, Saskatchewan at the age of 88 years.

Teenie Dutka was born October 24,1920, the daughter of Wasyl and Annie Skihar (Mihay- chuk), pioneers of Gorlitz, Sk. Teenie attended Ukraina School until the age of 15, when she left to seek work in a variety of odd jobs including household chores, gardening and farm labour. For this she received $5-$10 per month plus room and board.

In 1939 Teenie married Alex Dutka in St. Basil Ukrainian Orthodox Church, approximately four miles southwest of Gorlitz SK. They were blessed with one daughter, Sylvia. Teenie was readily accepted by her new family and lived with and looked after her in-laws until they passed on. In addition to growing a large vegetable and flower garden and tending to farming duties, she enjoyed working alongside her husband on their mixed farm. Upon leaving the farm and moving to Yorkton in 1961, she became accustomed to a new way of life in the city. Teenie maintained a special fondness for flowers as well as looking after her home and garden. She also worked in a local processing plant for six years.

Teenie originally belonged to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Burgis. Upon moving to Yorkton, she joined the congregation there in 1962 and became a member of the ladies association who provided hospitality services in community and church sponsored activities. She also spent much of her time visiting the sick and infirm. Teenie enjoyed and actively participated in gardening, food preservation, baking and the creation of unique Easter eggs. She bowled and was on the Yorkton Ladies Bowling League for sixteen years. Teenie liked to make potholders which she gave away to the many relatives and friends who came to visit. She also enjoyed music and working on her word search puzzles and said that the many words stimulated her thoughts.

Teenie loved a household full of people and warmly welcomed family and friends to her home. She was an expert cook and skilled and practiced baker. Everyone enjoyed Teenie's delicious home cooked meals, especially her perogies and baked cornmeal. Her chocolate chip cookies became known as "Teenie's cookies" because they were so delicious. Her house was adorned with many many pictures of family and friends. A very special young admirer said Teenie had a "picture house". Teenie loved being active and was always busy doing something until her health necessitated them to move from their own home of 47 years to Aspen Bluffs Villa in August of 2008. Teenie was well liked by all who knew her. She will be remembered for her kind heart, thoughtfulness and compassion for others.

Teenie is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Alex; her daughter, Sylvia and son-in-law, Les Lewchuk of Richmond, BC; her sisters, Annie Wasylenchuk and Mary Chornomud of Yorkton, Sk, Lee Mitchell of Port Alberni, BC, Elsie Mailer and Nell Cooper of Edmonton, AB; brother, Matt Skihar of Delta BC and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Wasyl and Annie; her brother, John Skihar and her sister, Kathy Zelych.

Funeral Services were held on Monday, April 20, 2009 from the Chapel of Christie's Funeral Home in Yorkton, Saskatchewan with the Very Reverend Father Mel Slashinsky officiating. The Cantor, Gerald Yaholnitsky, assisted with the singing of the service. The interment followed in the Yorkton Memorial Gardens, Garden of Gethsemane with Terry Chornomud, Lyle Hardy, Merv Hunt and Gerald Wiwchar serving as the casket bearers.

Special thanks to all the wonderful staff at Aspen Bluffs Villa for their care and support while Teenie was a resident in the Villa. Friends so wishing may make donations in Teenie's memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan as tokens of remembrance.

TRATCH: Michael 'Mike' Peter Tratch of Canora passed away at the Theodore Health Centre on April 15th, 2009 at the age of 95 years.

Mike was born on February 9th, 1914 in the Mikado district to Nick and Mary (nee Wilgocz) Tratch. He was one of thirteen children. He attended Bogucz School from age eight to fourteen, when he quit to help on the farm. Mike married Anna Derkatch on July 16th, 1934. This union led to the birth of one child, their son Paul. They farmed in the Mikado district for six years. At that time, he tried mushroom farming which failed because he only got one mushroom. He sold his quarter of land to his brother Laurie. They moved to Bowsman in 1940 where he operated the Imperial Oil and Cockshutt dealership along with a trucking company. He also had a livery barn and purchased one quarter of land as well as having a pig ranch. Unfortunately, Mike and Anna separated in 1946. He continued to run the dealership until 1947 at which time he purchased the Glenavon Hotel. He ran the hotel for ten years. While running the hotel, he purchased three quarters of land in 1949 at Hazel Dell which is still farmed by his son Paul and grandson Gerald. In 1952, he started clearing the land with the cat he bought which led into a business of custom land clearing and breaking. He would clear bush during the week and go back to Glenavon to run the hotel on the weekends. The reason he got out of the hotel business was because of the government regulations which he complained about until his passing. He traded the hotel for three quarters of land and machinery at Invermay which he farmed until he retired.

Mike went to Churchill in 1961 to build the rocket launching site. He spent one full year up in Churchill and then parts of the following three years. Anybody who visited him would have noticed his infatuation of polar bears. At sixty-two, he purchased his home in Canora and continued to farm in Invermay. There were many trips back and forth from Invermay with Rex, his dog. Mike sold his land in 1980 and at that time purchased a lot and built a cabin at Canora Beach. The cabin was for him and his grandchildren to enjoy. There were many good times enjoyed by family and friends because Mike liked to entertain with his two-finger shots. Retirement was fully enjoyed with fishing, sometimes even with two or three rods in the water. He really enjoyed taking his great-grandchildren fishing, even sometimes before the sun was up. He also enjoyed hunting, but more for the conversation because Neil and Ivan don't remember shooting anything. Fond memories of the great-grandchildren were going to the garbage dump and sometimes coming back with more garbage than they took. Also, spam, revels, McCain cream pies, and Wonder Bread were his delicacies. On February 9th of this year, he celebrated his 95th birthday at home with his family having his favourite meal of fried chicken, Kokanokee beer and Wisers whiskey. The last few years were not his best being in and out of the hospital, but he managed to stay out of the care home, with the help of Cheryl and Neil, Mike and Violet Heshka, and Laurie Wasyliw until the last three weeks of his life. Mike will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his son Paul; his grandchildren: Neil (Laurie) and their family: Stephanie (Bryce) Makenna and Morgan, Darryl (Robyn); Barbara (Aaron) and their family: Rhonda (Terry), Kimberly and Kayson, Kyle and Rachelle; Wayne (Liz); Gerald; Cheryl (Ivan) and their family: Evan, Roxilana (Kyle) and Mykola; his sisters: Julia Yaworski and Mary Ostafie; daughter-in-law: Honor Trach as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The Vigil of Prayer was held on Monday, April 20th, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, April 21st, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. both at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Canora with Rev. Dr. Vitalis Azike, Celebrant. The Rite of Committal followed at the Canora Cemetery. Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to St. Joseph's R.C. Church or to the Canora Hospital Auxiliary as tokens of remembrance. Arrangements were entrusted to LESON'S FUNERAL HOME, Canora. (563-5671).
