In loving memory of Bill Matichuk who passed away on January 17, 2009.

Remember him with a smile today,

He was not one for tears;

Reflect instead on memories,

Of all the happy years.

The good advice he'd give us,

His eyes that shone with laughter;

So much of him will never die,

But live on ever after

As we loved you, so we miss you,

In our memory

You are near;

Loved, remembered, longed for always, Bringing many a silent tear. Virginia, Linda, Wayne & Brooke

WINGERAK: Mary Wingerak passed away on January 10, 2010, at the Canora Gateway Lodge, at the age of 85 years.

Mary's parents were Magdelina (Woloschuk) and Andrew Pylypchuk. She was the last surviving member, in the family of 6 brothers, Peter. Bill, Joe, Sam, Stephen, Nickolas and a sister Annie. Homesteading during those early days north of' Mikado was not easy, but Mary was kept busy with chores on the farm, and more-so with the failing health of her parents. She was described as "full of life" by those close to her, and this love of life made her enjoy her youth. When not at school, she loved softball, and apparently was a pretty good back-catcher, loved horses and had a favourite, Molly, which she rode whenever she could. She also loved playing cards especially into her later years, with her good friend, Ann Strocen. Mary would often follow her brothers to local dances, and during one of these occasions she met Tony Mackisey, a young man who played in the band. Their relationship blossomed and they were married on November 18, 1943, and moved to his family's homestead in the Mohala area.

Mary always looked forward to having a family of her own and had 5 boys, Peter, Willard, Allan, Garry, Gerald, and 2 girls, Deborah and Dianne, and was a loving and devoted mother. Tony built a house in Canora and the family moved there in 1956. Mary also enjoyed many unique hobbies. She would scout many obscure places to pick mushrooms and berries, and even ex- perienced a few close encounters with black bears. Knitting was another favourite pastime and over the years she had created many pieces that showcased this skill. She always loved to drive and this seemed to reflect her independence, so getting her driver's license in 1975 was a highlight in her life. We are always tested during our lives, and Mary's life was no different. Tony passed away in 1959 at a time when children need both parents, but she continued to do whatever was needed because her family washer life. Strength, love and determination are just a few of the many easily recog- nizable traits in Mary, and those who are familiar with her mother would understand where Mary got these gifts. Although Mary did not go as far as she wanted with her own schooling, she always stressed the importance of a better education with her children. They in turn understood her many sacrifices and this caring and helping have kept the family close as it is today. Mary always cared for everyone she met and especially those accepted by her family, because she respected their judg- ments and offered support regardless of circumstances. This attitude came from a deep and quiet religious faith that was more inward than appeared in her actions, and gave her the strength to persevere without complaints or regrets. Mary started working outside the home in 1969 at the Gateway Lodge. During those 21 years of service, she always took pride in her contribution to the community and being able to care for many people she knew during her life.

She remarried in 1973 to Peter Wingerak until his passing in 1981. Mary was never lonely as grandchildren, and eventually great-grandchildren, were welcomed back to her home. She was a true matriarch of the Mackisey family and this role has served to maintain, and hopefully pass on, the many values she always cherished throughout her life. We are all saddened by her passing and she will be deeply missed. She is with Jesus Christ, with whom she had always found comfort and peace. But if we can each ask ourselves what would our Mary mom, Baba, friend, neighbour, or acquaintance, wish of us; the only answer is that we love life, care for others, be unselfish, believe in God, and be as happy as we can. So when you think of Mary, make sure a smile creases your face for you would have treasured her soul. This is Mary's legacy.

She was predeceased by: her first husband Tony Mackisey, her second husband Peter Wingerak, two brothers in infancy, her sons Willard Mackisey and Peter Mackisey, sister Anne, and brothers Peter Pylypchuk, Bill Pylypchuk, Sam Pylypchuk, and Joe Pylypchuk. She is survived by her daughters, Debbie (Clyde) Nobbee, and Dianne Mackisey, sons Gerald (Cathy) Garry (Bobbi) and Allan (Audrey), 14 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Prayer Service was held at the Chapel of Leson's Funeral Home on Friday, January 15, 2010, and Funeral Liturgy was held at the Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in Canora on Saturday, January 16, 2010, with Rev. Fr. Joakim Rac as Celebrant. Interment followed at the Canora Cemetery. DEAN: It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family announces the sudden passing of Doreen Frances Dean (nee Story), of Canora. Saskatchewan on Friday. December 11, 2009 at tile Yorkton Regional Health Centre with her loving family at her side. Doreen was 79 years of age.

Doreen was born July 26, 1930 to George & Teressa Story (nee Brown) in Canora. She was the eldest of 5 siblings, and grew up and attended school in Invermay, SK. She was a member of the CGIT. She was a very athletic person, loved curling, playing ball and later in her life even took up the sport of bowling. As a matter of fact playing ball was how she met her soul mate of 60 years. Doreen married David Arthur Dean on April 28, 1950 after he returned home from WW II. They then moved to the family farm east of Invermay and proceeded to farm and raise a family. Their union was blessed by the birth of 5 children, 3 sons and 2 daughters. Through her years Doreen was a wonderful cook, a great caregiver and always had some good tips for anyone who needed them. After her family was complete she went to work in Invermay as a telephone operator in the 1960's. In the late 70's when the grandchildren started to arrive Doreen enjoyed spending as much time as possible with them, be it watching hockey or ball games, playing games or just chasing them out of her garden.

In the mid 80's Doreen and Dave retired and moved to Canora Beach where she had more time to enjoy some of her hobbies like knitting, crocheting, jigsaw puzzles and reading books (Danielle Steele's favourite fan). There isn't one grandchild or great-grandchild that doesn't have a memento of a crocheted shawl from Grandma Dean. And we are really going to miss her slippers and dishcloths. From there they moved to Park Place in Canora, in the late 90's, where they enjoyed their new extended family of friends. Doreen became president of the organization. Events were planned like Bingo (that she never lost at) and singing as well as several birthday parties and much more. Through the latter years of her life Doreen developed diabetes and osteoporosis, which made it more difficult for her to get around. But she still enjoyed watching her sports on TSN.

Doreen was predeceased by her parents George and Teressa Story, 2 sisters Vivian Fehr and Emma Darling, brother-inlaw Ray Duncalfe, her mother and father in law Arthur and Edith Dean, and her sister-in-law Grace Dean. Left to mourn her passing and to cherish her life, her loving husband Dave, her 3 sons and families, Brian (Debi) Dean of Regina, SK, and their children Scott, Mark and Jillian; Richard (Irene) Dean of lnvermay, SK, son Jeffery (Kari) with their children Gracyn and Jakson, daughter Rhonda (Steve) Toth and their son Braden; Calvin (Barb) Dean of Taber, AB and sons David Dean Jr., Desmond (Jacqui) and their children Gracyn and Tristen, Aaron (Jesse), 2 daughters and their families: Marilyn (John) Gray of Melville, SK, and daughters Melissa (Curtis) Manum and their children Archur, and Jagur, Deanna Gray and daughters Lecina and Alana; and Valerie (Lloyd) Schmidt of Melville, SK. and their children Nicole and Lance, brother Wilfred (Janet) Story of Weyburn, SK; sister Bev (Val) Novak of Moose Jaw, SK, brother-in-law John Fehr, Canora, SK, brothers in law Donald (Merle) Dean of Yorkton, SK; Jim (Polly) Dean of Balgonie, SK; Neil Dean of Canora, SK; Ken (Rita) Dean of Saskatoon, SK., and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
