GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN

Ernest S. Bayne

Death of Rev. E.S. Bayne. The sad news reached us last week of the death of Rev. Ernest S. Bayne, of Hillsboro, C.B.  Mr. Bayne had been in poor health for some time and recently was taken to St. Martha's Hospital, Antigonish for treatment, where he passed away on Wednesday, February 20th. His health was no doubt affect by his brief at the loss of his wife, who died recently, and his anxiety for his two sons in the service of the army over seas. Mr. Bayne was a son of the late Dr. Bayne, for a number of years pastor of Prince St. Church, Pictou. He received his literary education in Pictou Academy and Dalhousie University, and studied theology at Princeton Seminary. He was ordained by the Presbytery of P.E. Island and inducted into the congregation of Murry Harbor, on January 18, 1876. On April 20, 1884, he was translated to Middle Musquodoboit. He demitted this charge on March 31, 1890, and on December 30 of the same year he was inducted at Mabou, his last charge. For a number of years he was clerk of the Presbytery of Inverness, a position which he filled with fidelity and efficiency. Mr. Bayne was an earnest preacher and a faithful and diligent pastor. He was one of the most genial of men, and his kindly disposition made him beloved by his people and won him friends where ever he went.
