Telmage D. Stiles

STILES - The funeral of the late Talmage D. Stiles was held from Tuttles Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 19th. He passed away at the D.V.A. Hospital in Saint John after a lengthy illness of 15 months. He died in his 79th year and had enjoyed excellent health until the time of his fatal illness. He is survived by his wife Agnes, a son Cecil, living in Saint John and a daughter Alma in Los Angeles, Calif. three sisters, Mary Jonah, Anagance, N.B.; Jeanette Moscrip, Arch Cape, Oregon, Myrtle Baldwin, Torrence, Calif., two brothers, John of Toronto, and Ingram of Long Beach, Calif. He is also survived by two grandsons Jeffrey and Larry. He was born in Albert County and resided most of his life in Moncton. In 1914 he joined the 3rd Canadian Mounted Rifles in Medicine Hat, Alberta. By 1915 he was serving in Frances and survived such famous battle as The Somme, Mokay Farm, Ypres, Sanctuary Wood and others. He returned to Moncton in 1919 after a service of four years and four months. He then became employed by the CNR and retired as a car man in 1959. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, the CNR War Vets, the Independent Order of Oddfellows and the Sunny Brae Baptist Church. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. Manter Wilson of the Sunny Brae Baptist Church. The pallbearers were Harry Mitchell, Owen Anketell, George Powers, Russell Stiles, Gar Burgess, Aldon Steeves. Honourary pall bearers were members of the Royal Canadian Legion and were Harold J. McLaughlin, Henry Horseman, David Cail, Hebert Walker, Harold J. Fitzsimmons and Russell Roundell. Members of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 6 attended in uniform.
