GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN Andrew Fraser Weir
WEIR, Dr. Andrew Fraser - 57, died July 16, 1998, in the VG Site, QEII. Born in Freeport, he was a son of the late Dr. Andrew Fraser and Bessie Maude (Eaton) Weir. He attended school in Yarmouth and graduated from Dalhousie Medical School in 1967. He returned to Yarmouth to practice family medicine for the next 30 years. In 1997, he set up practice at the Island Medical Centre in Freeport where he looked forward to a new career in rural medicine. In the past, he served as the Western Branch Medical Representative to the Nova Scotia Medical Society. He was also co-ordinator for the Western Branch Continuing Medical Education. He was a member of the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Fishing, hunting, camping in Quinan and cruising in his cape island boat, always sharing with friends and family his love of the water, were his special joys. A special fondness for his dogs, Worsley, Brock and Mokie were known by all. His kindness as a physician, friend and family member will be deeply missed. Surviving are son, Andrew Fraser, Yarmouth; sister, Margaret MacDonald and husband Don, Freeport; brothers, Dr. Edward Weir and wife Toss, California; Dr. Donald Weir and wife Audrey, Dartmouth; former wife, Carol; Joan MacLean and family nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Jean Franklin, Massachusetts and Freeport. Cremation has taken place under the direction of A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, in the Freeport Baptist Church, Rev. MacCormack officiating. Reception to follow. Family flowers only. Donations to a charity of choice.
