GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN John J. Weir
NEW GLASGOW - John Jamieson (Jack) Weir, 66, of Plymouth, and formerly of New Glasgow, died Friday in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late John and Eva (MacFarlane) Weir. He lived in New Glasgow most of his life, until moving to Plymouth 10 years ago. He was a prominent New Glasgow businessman who owned and operated a garage for 26 years, retiring 10 years ago. He was involved with stock car racing in the Maritimes for many years, and was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow. Surviving are his wife, the former Anne Hughs; a daughter, Margaret (Mrs. Edward Smith), New Glasgow; a half-brother, Robert, St. Catharines, Ont.; three sisters, Hazel (Mrs. D.F. Love), Toronto; Jean and Marjorie, both of New Glasgow; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, John; a brother, Harold; and a sister, Willa. The body is in H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral will be today at 3:30 p.m. in Westminster Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow, Rev. J. Donald MacKay officiating. Burial will be in Lorne Street Cemetery. Donations may be made to any charity, or to Westminster Church Memorial Fund.
