GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN John Park Weir
MANY ATTEND THE FUNERAL OF THE LATE JOHN P. WEIR.
Obsequies Under the Auspices of the Masonic Order. The funeral of Mr. John P.
Weir took place at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon from the family residence, 22
Waterloo Street, and many citizens were present to pay a last tribute to a
citizen who was held in the highest esteem. In the absence of the pastor of
St. John's Presbyterian Church which the deceased was a valued member, the
funeral service was conducted by Rev. W.H. Barraclough, pastor of Central
Methodist Church. The choir of St. John's
Church was present and
rendered very sympathetically several favorite hymns of the deceased. Miss
Erminie Climo sang "A Perfect Day". The funeral was held under the
auspices of Keith Lodge A.F. and A.M. A large number of Masons proceeded the
hearse, marching in a body to the cemetery. Members of Westmorland Lodge, No.
3, Knights of Pythias, also attended in a body. The pallbearers were chosen
from members of the Masonic Lodge and were all Past Masters, being Messrs, F.L.
Thompson, George Ackman, F.T. Atkinson, H.C. Colins, H. Bennett and Geo. B.
Willett. The casket was covered with many beautiful floral tributes from
sympathizing friends in the city and elsewhere, and included the following
from different societies:
Pedestal - Officers of Keith Lodge, No. 23, A.F. and A.M.
A barouche was necessary to covey the floral pieces. The large funeral cortege left the residence at 2:30 o'clock for Elmwood cemetery, where interment was made in the family lot. The service at the graveside was also conducted by Rev. Mr. Barraclough. Mr. Fred Weir of Manchester, N.H., son of the deceased, and Mrs. Geo. Hamilton, of Winchester, Mass., sister of Mrs. Weir, were in attendance at the funeral.
