GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN Edward A. Wier
DEATH OF A FORMER PICTONIAN. Edward A. Wier, one of the best known figures in social, theatrical and philanthropic enterprises in Brooklyn, N.Y., died suddenly on Tuesday morning of apoplexy. He was born in Pictou, N.S. and was 87 years of age. He was a carpenter by trade and went to New York 60 years ago, and lived in that city some years. In 1865 he had charge of the carpenter work of the academy of Music then building; when the building was completed Mr. Wier was appointed its superintendent, and was soon after given control of the building as manager. He held this position till January last, when he resigned in consequence of advancing age. He owned considerable stock in the academy and was reported well to do. Mr. Wier was a member of the Society of Old Brooklynites.
