CLARKE, Albert (Pal) - of Halifax, died Monday in the Victoria General Hospital. Born in Inverness, he was a son of the late James and Moriah Clarke. A veteran of the Second World War, he served with the Royal Canadian Navy for 21 years, retiring in 1946. He was a prominent boxer and athlete in the Halifax area. He is survived by his wife, the former Blanche M. Tanner; a daughter, Marilyn (Mrs. Marcel Gince), Montreal; two sons, Frederick, Port Herbert, and Albert, Halifax; a brother, James, Glace Bay; a sister, Mary (Mrs. John Spearing), Glace Bay; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, James, and a sister, Elizabeth. The body is in J. Albert Walker Memorial Chapel where funeral will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m., Rev. Cedric Pettigrew officiating. Burial will be in Fort Massey Cemetery, Halifax. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Memorial Fund of the Royal Canadian Legion, Vimy Branch. HMCS SAGUENAY - Served in SAGUENAY 24 Jun 1936 - 24 Jun 1937  // On 16 Jul 1936, SAGUENAY departed Montreal, Quebec for France, escorting the Cunard White Star lines Antonia and Ascania and the Canadian Pacific Railway liners Montcalm and Montrose to France; then provided the Royal Guard for His Majesty King Edward VIII for the official unveiling of the Vimy Memorial. The was first time the RCN had provided the Royal Guard for a reigning monarch.
